  1. Yes to high heat, yes to high humidity, but no to performance...I am not sure what tweaks the manufacturers make to spec it for Gulf use, but I haven't really experienced any probs with a twin turbo Audi, turbo Mini or a N/A Porsche...And besides, whilst we are over in Australia modifying JDMs, they are modifying Euro and supercars beyond our budgets and imagination...I have heard stories of cashed-up Arabs walk into West Coast Customs asking for alcantera trim costing $40k AUD. And it seems supercharging is the flavour of the day over there at the moment, especially in 4WDs - they sure like their uphill sand dune racing.... Sometimes it's very amusing to see how petrolheads from other countries drool over cars they cannot get in that country, while they are abandant here...Example, we drool over H2 and H3 Blinged Hummers, Euro cars, Exotic Cars...Yet, over there, they drool over JDM Evos and WRXs and Supras....Such is life...
  2. Too bad we are not talking about Dubai...I bought a 2nd hand 2001 Audi S4 for $18k AUD in 2007 with 54,000kms on the clock...In all honesty, I have a soft spot for Euro cars...Being a JDM guy for most of my life, I was very surprised when I drove the Audi - build quality was heaps better then any JDM I have experienced so far...Anyway, this is all off topic...blabber blabber blabber...
  3. Vortech S/C Kit got sold in Dubai to an Arab for about $5.5k AUD...I didn't have time to see the final install, but knowing those Arabs, the guy is probably enjoying it up and down the freeway now in his G35...
  4. Oh crap! I just found out that my V35 only comes with one key too...It has buttons on it. I have read the entire thread and am still confused... I am looking to put in an alarm system for the car also. What do I need to buy? One that is a 'piggyback' unit with no controllers, such that the original Nissan buttons will be used OR a alarm unit with 2 matching controller units? Once the above is tackled, I will need to have 1 key cut. Do I need to email Japan to get the codes? Or can I just PM TomR33 for his help, then go to Nissan to have a key cut? Thanks in advance.
  5. Mate, I'm in Caroline Springs - next door to Cairnlea...It's a dark blue sedan. When it goes on the road, it will have a NISMO-type front grille (getting it painted this week), clear side blinkers (installed this week) & reverse camera; so shouldn't be hard to spot whilst I drive it around the west side. It will also be a theft-magnet once I decide to buy some super-sexy WORK wheels like these... The car has arrived, got complied, rego-ed, but becos the paintwork is all scratched, it needs a buff by the importer/dealer, so will pick it up late this month. I could have picked it up last week with "poor" paintwork, but trying to defer the car insurance as late as possible... Overall, I couldn't believe how smooth the whole process was and I bought it off eBay too. Credits to the importer - but then again, I am not a fussy buyer and just need a runaround car.
  6. One more thing, The first coat finish dried with a lot of dust, etc stuck onto it. I was really worried at first, but I re-read the US links and this is perfectly ok, as afterall, 6 - 7 coats of paint, wet sanding between coats + a buff should get rid of it all. AGAIN, a disclaimer!!! I WILL NOT BE HELD LIABLE OR RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DECIDE TO USE THIS METHOD, DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. I used my MX5 as a test mule as it's a weekend toycar and has a crappy paint job, hence, can afford to do what I am doing. If you can't get over the psychological barrier of doing it, then don't do it...
  7. I may have the solution.... $50USD to get a paint job done..but DIY... http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/03/need-a-...-50-will-do-it/ or the original link: http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showfl...part=1&vc=1 I am that convinced about it that I have bought some Wattyl Killrust Epoxy Enamel, some foam brushes, a small enamel paint roller kit, and various grit sandpaper. So far, it's costed about $80, but I will need to buy more paint later on to finish the car as I only bought 1 litre. Being the beginner that I am, I tried it on the fuel flap/lid of the MX5, but stoopid me - used Mineral Turps instead of Mineral Spirits (Thinners), so it took a long time to dry and didn't turn out anywhere near good (so it will have to be sanded back and redone from the beginning). I then tried it on a front guard of my MX5 bodykit. I haven't really perfected the technique yet and only applied 1 coat. Due to the cold Melb weather, it was touch dry next day, but not fully dried. I am now waiting for 1 week to pass before I sand it down and apply another coat. I guess the hardest part is trying to mix the right combo of paint vs thinners and to find some free space in the garage to do it. By the way, the colour I choose for my MX5 is Colorbond Bush Grey - to give it a stealth army look. The bodykit is a JDM widebody one also. I'll start posting pics up once I have perfected the technique on the front guard bodykit and then tackle the rest of the car. Now, to all those who can afford a good spray job, please ignore this post. For those who have weekends free, and don't mind the elbow grease, then hopefully, when I am done with the results, you can all go and try it (at your own risk of course). ALL IT TAKES IS COURAGE and to get over the "what the hell I am doing to my car" mindset....
  8. my V35 will arrive in a week, plus a week to get compliancing, RWC, etc...So, I'll be on the roads in Melb's west side...
  9. Thanks Ben. Based on everyone's comments regarding the CVT, I'll be buying a 3 year mechanical warranty on the car from the dealer. So, for the next 3 years, I should be "safe". Can I ask if finding a donor gearbox, say a 5 speed auto or 6 speed manual, is a hard task? I mean, if the CVT is gonna break, I might as well change the whole gearbox.
  10. Hmm....I am out then...not point spending $800 on bling with no bang... Does anyone know if the Cosworth plenums are worthwhile? They are like $1300-ish USD....
  11. LOL...I was a Porsche owner once...Yet, I went and ordered a V35 as a daily a few weeks ago... Anyway, a few rotten eggs doesn't make the whole batch bad... I remember stripping 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear on my 2001 Astra when it was 10,000kms old..does that make all Astras bad? (exclusion for the Camira - That was trouble from it's humble beginnings...) If you are prepared to marry a Russian, be prepared to learn Russian...That's all I am trying to note here. I hope I don't spark arguments here...LOL
  12. It seems the listing you found is quite expensive. Not long ago, there was an eBay listing at $33usd plus $14usd shipping to Aust. Anyway, hope you get a good price on the group buy. I bought a 2nd hand pair from a pair in Dubai for $30aud...or else I would join in...
  13. Despite the transmission oil price, i think the 8 speed CVT is a quality transmission. You guys shouldn't be bad-mouthing it or spreading anti-CVT views just because the flush is expensive. I mean, look how expensive Porsche maintenance is, yet there are still so many owners out there. Another example, look at superchargers, they are a great technology, but parts need to be replaced often, and often quite expensive...How come no bad-mouths superchargers? And turbo's, etc...The list goes on...No mechanical product lasts a lifetime! If you buy something, be prepared to maintain it, through good and bad....Sounds like marriage...LOL... For those married, you go try tell your wife "Oh, I married you thinking you were cheap to maintain. But it seems not!" ...See if you get out of the house alive!!!
  14. i found the online installation manual. this will turn out to be very useful to the mechnaic who installs it. all i need to find out now is which kit number it is....but it should be 4NZ218-018SQ polished kit. http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/downlo...020-010v6.0.pdf
  15. Is your V35 an auto or manual? Thanks.
  16. I am keen. when is the cut-off date?
  17. I am not allowed to advertise it, as the FOR SALE thread was deleted (since the kit doesn't belong to me). email me if you are keen for details: [email protected] more info on the kit is here: http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/product.php?p=117 price guide is 1/2 of new price, done approx 3,000kms. Full COMPLETE kit with piggyback ECU and 440 injectors. Geeze, I am getting more interest in this kit than my request for info/help! Can anyone help with my Thread's inquiries?
  18. some pics of it: sample pic actual kit pic that I may buy actual kit pic that I may buy actual kit pic that I may buy from Vortech website
  19. Check your PM, I didn't get your PM - so I just PMed u.
  20. hmm...seems like my FOR SALE Thread has been deleted by the Moderator as I was posting it on behalf of a friend. No worries, my bad... A missed opportunity to fellow SAU members...Maybe I should just buy it for my V35 now.
  21. Hi All, I am considering buying my friend's VORTECH SQ2 supercharger kit to fit on my V35, and would like to ask if fitting is an easy process? If not, who in melb has the skills to fit it? The kit comes complete with piggyback ECU and injectors. Also, do I need an engineer's certificate to make the modification "legal"? Any help would be appreciated. Also, I've posted it up for sale in the FOR SALE section, so if there are no takers, I will probably be buying it. Thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Fs...re-t269669.html Nel.
  22. It seems like there are 3 brands, being SKUNK2, Motordyne and BLOX. Motordyne has various models for the spacers, being 1/2", 5/16" in Basic, ISO Thermo, ISO Copper. Unless you live in a cold area, buy the BASIC at about $200USD. I haven't seen a DYNO sheet for this one yet. As for SKUNK2, it's a plastic composite of some sort and is approx $200USD also. SKUNK has it's own DYNO sheet to show HP gains. The cheapest is BLOX (about 1/2 price at $100USD). Given that it is also plastic composite, if you are on a budget, go for this one. To those who have bought, can you comment on: 1. Would you buy it again? 2. Was there noticeable difference after install? As to a group buy, there is no need. Go search ebay.com USA and type in plenum spacer, and they all appear. Furthermore to this, can anyone comment on the MOTORDYNE MREV2 LOWER COLLECTOR? At $450USD, is it a worthwhile 'gamble'? This post is inspired by Maximus007's Group Buy on the Motordyne Plenum Spacer (closed).
  23. i think we should do a group buy to register our interest, then go approach whiteline...hopefully, they should be around $150 as all they are is a piece of strengthened aluminium, 2 bolts, 2 hinges... anyone here knows a contact at whiteline that can help? i dun wanna be the leader on this buy and would leave it up to a more capable forumnite... Maybe, at the same time, whiteline can also do all the other various struts and braces for the V35....come on guys, let's band together!!!
  24. Ok all, I am not IT/Software expert, but I was surfing ebay and found a Chinese seller that sells the DVD for car GPS units for around $90 delivered. The link/item number is: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...%3D1&_rdc=1 OR Item 250410274175 Can the V35 experts on GPS/Sat Nav have a read through the listing and tell us all if the DVD will work? It also has a host of stuff at the end of the listing asking for serial number registrations, etc of the GPS unit... If someone can confirm if this works for the V35 GPS Unit, then I will contact the eBay seller to ask for a group discount...And, by the looks of it, the DVD cannot be pirated/copied due to the need to register the GPS ID...
  25. Sorry to dig this thread up, but I'm a NOOB with respect to rims and want to ask what offsets are required for each width for a V35 Skyline Sedan? I am looking to buy some rims and keep getting mixed messages on the offsets that will suit without modification. FRONT - Max Offset? Min Offset? 8" rims 8.5" rims 9" rims REAR - Max Offset? Min Offset? 8" rims 8.5" rims 9" rims 9.5" rims 10" rims So far, I've been told (via various for sale posts and other websites): FRONT 8" rim = +17 Offset will fit 8" rim = +30 Offset will fit (standard 350z 18" rim offset) 8.5" rim = +23 Offset will fit 8.5" rim = +25 Offset will fit 8.5" rim = +29 Offset will fit 9" rim = +25 Offset will fit REAR 8" rim = +30 Offset will fit (standard 350z 18" rim offset) 9.5" rim = +27 Offset will fit 9.5" rim = +29 Offset will fit 9.5" rim = +30 Offset will fit 9.5" rim = +35 Offset will fit 10" rim = +25 Offset will fit Do you now see why I am confused? Any help will be appreciated. And, how do you know if rims will clear big brakes? I may upgrade to a big brake kit in future and don't want to limit myself now by buying a rim that doesn't do the job later. Also, with tyres, under what circumstances would you use 45, 40, 35? Obviously, the larger the diametre of the rim, the thinner the tyre. So, does this mean: 18" rims = 45 tyre? 19" rims = 40 tyre? 20" rims = 35 tyre? Or am I wrong? Whilst we are on tyres, can someone now clarify what width tyres fit on: 8" rims = 225 tyre? 8.5" rims = 245 tyre? 9" rims = 265 tyre? 9.5" rims = 275 tyre? 10" = ? Maybe once someone can answer my NOOB questions, this can be posted as a sticky for all V35 owners as a quick ref guide or something...
