  3. Joel You can buy oil test kits, they cost about $35 - $40. They are very informative and will tell you if there is any bearing wear. These kits are used by transport fleets as preventative maintenace, The test will pick up any fault before it actually breaks down. If you do get one of these kits fill in the form with as much information as posible. i.e. Km's since oil change, recent repairs ect. then just put it in a post box and the results will be mailed back to you. Kits available from most oil companys. If you are in Perth I can get you one. Regards ASHLY

  13. I dont want to sound like an arse, but you guys dont know what you are talking about! Semi synthetics are not made up of a mix of synthetic and mineral, in most cases they are a mineral base thats been hydrocracked to perform like a synthetic. Base oils come in 4 different groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 Group 1 = Basic oils like chain lubes. Group 2 = Most Oils like engine oil, gear oil, hydraulic oil, industrial oils Group 3 = Highly Refined mineral oil (Semi Synthetics) High performance Lubricants, Engine oil, gear oils and other high performance lubes Group 4 = Polyalpholefins or POA (Fully Synthetic) (Man Made) Extreemly high performance lubes for high temperatures or extended drain intervalls Group 3 oils are sometimes listed as synthetic because the chemical structure of the base has been changed by man so therefore its man made and hence called synthetic. I hope i haven't up set to many people but i had to explain how it works or im going to go nuts reading some of these posts. Any Semi synthetic or fully synthetic is going to perform well above what you guys are going to put it through, so long as you change it at regular intervalls.
  14. How do you know semi-syns are 15% synthetic and 85% mineral?
  15. Dont get caught up in marketing hype, allways use whats best for your car. Not somebody elses! If the Shell Ultra is working best for you thats great, keep using it.
  16. well, it makes sense to flush it after 80000 kms on the same oil. i dont want to get involved in a comparison between different oil companys (for obvious reasons). But i can get technical or general information on different Fuchs lubricants if you want. ASHLY
  17. Hi Guy's If you change your oil often you shouldn't need to flush the engine. I work as a sales rep for one of those oil companys you have mentioned and let me tell you that 5000kms in a road car on any good synthetic oil is nothing. If you have to flush your engine after 5000kms somthing is wrong. We supply many truck fleets that run up around 70000kms between oil changes, and their dirty diesels, even these guys dont flush their engines between drains. ASHLY
