  1. My V35 Coupe seems to almost spot on - I've tested at 80 & 110 against the GPS in my phone, and the difference is no more than 1 - 2 kph. I've got 18s with stock rear tyres - 245/45R18.
  2. Thanks Smokey - that ties up with what I found. Just couldn't get an official copy. Nightcrawler - When I realised that I had a flashing light I edited my OP to delete the reference to it. Some people reading your post will be wondering what your on I'm going to change to Shannons. JustCar can't or won't tell me what they actually want - I'm sure they'd know if my car was stolen.
  3. Can't see the link without signing up - maybe post a list here. Geoff
  4. I think I've found the solution - rang Shannons today and the price is slightly cheaper than JC, with better conditions. JustCar haven't got back with answers to my questions about the immobiliser, Shannons seem happy with the factory one.
  5. Thanks for your input Smokey. The only thing I've found different to what you said is numerous documents suggesting that the standard only requires 2 points of immobilisation, not 3. A couple of sites I've found are http://www.logan.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/3685/immobilisers.pdf http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=LA8970 http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&ved=0CEIQFjAC&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.brimbank.vic.gov.au%2Ffiles%2Fbb8404d3-eb82-49b3-98a9-9f2800a1dcc8%2FFeatures_of_an_Aus_standard_immobiliser.pdf&ei=kD-8UOL-I4aViAfD9IGgCw&usg=AFQjCNGnSkZZ32vNA_btiP_aPbWQDYuHnQ All of which say 2 points. I wish I could read a copy of the standard. Are you saying the RACV don't require an extra immobiliser?
  6. Hi all, Just a quick q about insurance & immobilisers on the V35. I've got a V35 coupe with the standard Nissan security system. I've got it insured by JustCar, and one of the condition of insurance is that they won't cover theft or attempted theft unless the car is fitted with an "Australian Standard Immobiliser" (their wording). Of course they can't (or won't) tell me if they regard the standard system as appropriate, and told me to contact the manufacturer - ie Nissan. I can imagine their reaction. It looks like the appropriate standard is AS/NZS 4601:1999 - anyone have access to a copy of this? What has everyone else done in this regard? Anyone else insured with JustCar - have you fitted an alternative immobiliser? What other insurance options do0 we have? Every other company I called wasn't interested in imports. Has anyone had a V35 stolen, or know of any in Australia? Any info would be appreciated. Cheers, Geoff

  8. Hey Tony - did you end up getting the new key working?
  9. "you need to manually switch stock head unit back to another menu to get rid of it" I'm not sure what you mean by this. I've put a cheap ebay camera on my car, connected it to the video in pins on the factory TV tuner, and used a relay to ground cont1 when the reverse lights come on. I powered the camera from the reversing lights as well, so it only has power when I'm in reverse. When I select reverse, the camera video output automatically comes onto the screen. When I change out of reverse, the video shuts off, and the screen goes back to the nav display (which is of no use as it only has Japanese maps). If I want to view an info screen, I have to select it, every time I shift out of reverse. I'd like to find a way to have it automatically select the info display, rather than the nav display, when I shift out of reverse. Other than that it works great. I think the camera was around $15 off ebay, and it has IR so works well at night. It's mounted at the top of the number plate, and is very effective. If anyone knows how to setup the system to automatically chage to the info screen, I would be eternally grateful. Cheers

  12. The rim size isn't the critical factor, rather the tyres you fit to the rims - if you fit an 18" tyre with the same outside diameter as your currrent 17", the ride height will be the same. To get the same OD you will need lower profile in the 18s - use a tyre calculator to work it out. I thought the snow button made it take off in 2nd gear, to reduce wheel spin, but I might be worng - don't get much snow in Adelaide:)
  13. Hey Norby - you might be thinking of me:) The more I see my wingless bootlid the more it grows on me - even my son said today that he likes it now without, when I first got it he said it was ugly without a wing.
  14. Tony350 - any update on the key? Did it work?
  15. Scotty - I'm in SA. The fluid isn't a dark brown, more a light honey colour, almost clear. Looking at the colour I doubt that it was ever red. Are you saying that both the Nissan & Nulon fluids are red when new?
  16. My 2003 V35 Coupe has a noticeable delay when shifting from Reverse to Drive - wait, wait, wait, ok I'm ready now:). It doesn't always do this, but often enough to be a pain. Is this "normal", or should I be worried? Shifting during normal driving seems fine. Also is there an easy way to ID the trans fluid? The fluid in mine doesn't look burnt or dirty, nor does it smell burnt. It is a light brown / honey colour, not red as I would expect from "normal" (Dexron) trans fluid. I believe it was replaced around 4,000 km ago, but I don't really trust that. What colour is the Nissan Matic J fluid, and the Nulon Synthetic? Thanks
  17. The numbers in the tyre size mean the following: 245 - tyre width in mm 45 - tyre profile - this is the height of the sidewall as a percentage of the width - ie 245/45x18 tyre has a sidewall height of 110.25mm, so tyre diameter will be 18" (460mm) + 2 x 110.5mm = 680 mm (approx). The next numbers & letters refer to the load rating & speed rating. It's illegal to run tyres with a lower load rating than the tyre placard fitted to the car lists - ie 03 coupe says 91W for the front, and 96W for the rear. The 91 & 96 are the load rating (96 means 710kg per tyre). The rear load rating may limit your tyre choice a bit. There was a time when the speed rating of the tyres had to match the placard as well - I had an 86 Celica which had V rated tyres listed, and had to buy V rated tyres for it at the time. The choice was very limited, and very expensive. This was changed at some stage - tyres now have to have a minimum speed rating of S (this is in SA, may be different in QLD). There are lots of tyre size calculators on the net - have a look at http://www.miata.net...e/tirecalc.html for an example. You can input the size & it will give you all the specs. You can find which 20" profiles are the same (or similar) size to the OEM 18's. 245/35-20 has a diameter of 680mm. Stock front diameter is 660mm, and stock rear is 680mm. You might need to look for a smaller profile for the fronts - 245/35 will be both wider & higher than stock, so may rub. They would also be illegal (in SA) as they are more than 15mm larger than the tyre size on the placard, so may become an insurance issue if you had an accident. To check your speedo, compare to a GPS app - the Navigation on my Samsung phone gives a GPS speed reading, and my 03 coupe with stock 18" tyre sizes reads about 1-2kph higher than the GPS - when the speedo says 100kph the GPS shows 98-99 kph.
  18. Wow, what a mess. Perhaps I should keep looking for someone who wants to swap boot lids.
  19. What a co-incidence - this came up on ebay today: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Bose-Stereo-system-and-Surround-Dash-Panel-G35-Infiniti-V35-Skyline-/330791936064?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d04bc6040 No, it isn't mine & I have nothing to do with it, just happened to see it there. It looks to have the dual a/c button though. BTW, what does John at Marvey tech specialise in? The business name doesn't give much away.
  20. Norby - let me know: a. If it unbolts from the boot lid and b. How much you want for the spoiler Cheers
  21. http://www.ebay.com....=item27bc1c7191 - spoiler price is good but I'd have to bend over & lube up for the postage I have a white bootlid with spoiler on it thats about to come off mine to swap with one without a spoiler - would you sell the spoiler without the boot lid? How does it attach - I assume it's just bolted on.
  22. Are you able to confirm the wheel size? 18x8 / 17x7.5? Thanks
  23. "V35 350GT-8 5 spoke wheels, 5x114.3, tyres less than 20% $200" Are these rims 18x8, and can I have some pics please?
  24. As the title suggests I want to get a spoiler for my silver 03 coupe - just the "factory" style one seen on many 350GTs. Anyone know where I can get one in OZ? Even better - anyone have a silver coupe with a spoiler & prefer the sleek look? Happy to swap bootlids:)
