Umm the retard on the shift points? I'll leave that to the tuner ;) I seriously would not know, will need to go and do some research!

This is the problem everyone is having with wiring over the top of the original computer as unless the haltech can take 3 inputs (which as far as I know it cant) and apply a igntion retard based on a torque calculation (maybe MAP input but would be shitty) then its going to wear your trans really quick.

I know the new autronic SM4 has WOT ignition cut but thats still not good enough as its the medium and light throttle driving that I think will contribute to the most wear. The problem is that all aftermarket ECU drive the coils directly which is where the problem is.

Now I'm not trying to plug the XEDE here but AFAIK it is the only piggyback apart from unichip that moves the crank reference in order to trick the ECU into think there is more or less timing. This way it still allows the standard PCM to still control ignition retard on gear shifts.

Your really at the level where you need fuel and timing control which the XEDE can do both as well as boost and water/methanol injector control. It will also account for larger injectors as well.

Octane booster I was told to never put in before a tune ;) Reasons would be obvious I would've thought unless you owned a race car!

As for the XEDE, so you think it's a better system? The Haltech e11v2 sounds pretty damn powerful to me... but I'm open to all options, just that Hitman pushes Haltech :(

Its more of a case of the xede was designed as a piggyback while the haltech was designed to be a standalone ECU. In both situations you will have to piggy back either system. Its just that the haltech cant do the torque reductions on shift while the xede can.

Its developed at my work ChipTorque. We use it on the BA falcons, the entire subaru range, the entire mitsubishi range but mostly the EVO's in the states, lotus elise - in the states, porche -996TT, BMW - M3. We even used it on a turbo RX8 that we were contracted to tune by MAZDA Autralia. I tuned a 296rwkw 1jze soarer auto a couple of weeks ago. Its really just depends on the crank signal as to what we can put it on.

Yes it has those inputs but what I was getting at is that you cant assign those inputs to a table and change the axis of the table and the fuction of table itself. Basically you cant configure the haltech to take in 4 shift solenoid inputs and assign a load/ignition retard table to each input.

My boss isn't sure that he wants to develop the xede much further. I however can see that it would work just need his go ahead. If I can drum up enough interest then it will go ahead. The thing with the nissan CAS is that they have a weird 6-5-4-3-2-1 crank signal thats is very unique. Which doesn't mean it couldn't be done. My cars is currently off the road which means I need a test car. It usually only takes a day to configure the xede for a car we have never seen before. In that day we scope the crank trigger and then get the computer engineers to configure the xede. All the other sensor will be easy as they are very generic in their operation.

PS: the 350z has a 36-1 crank trigger which is very common.

I went for the trip with Stan out to Hitman on Saturday.

Highly suprised at the a/f ratios on the inital run.. quite scary when you think about it. there was no noticable pinging or any wierd noises from the motor either while it was running like that... hmm

very happy with a solid power figure from a comparable dyno. the 200rwkw barrier could have been broken with a closed loop boost controller, as the hybrid boost controller at the moment is running in open loop, hence the boost drop off towards the higher rev range.

BU5TER your car is amazing. What an awesome combination in there ;) The B&M looks right at home. Anywhere where we can see some details on your car?

rob82 - where abouts are you guys based? If you are 100% sure that this system works, I wouldn't mind lending my car to you as the guinea pig :(

One more question for everyone; the boost is currently set at 11psi - is 200rwkw an average figure for this boost level or something higher?

Do keep in mind I'm still running stock front/dump pipes + standard compliance cat :) Man I wish they'd hurry up on making those pipes for me... That would've pushed me into the 210rwkw mark for sure.

It depends how fast these exhaust guys can get it done... it's a custom pipe that they're making up for me :)

The cat part is easy, just thought it'd be better to do it all at once ~

Main advantage you are going to get is that your ECU will handle the auto transmission, so this should be able to be used perfectly well I guess..

you can also adjust the timing easily enough..

On the site - says you can use it with an R33 skyline, what's the difference in signals from the R34 to the R33 going to be??

You can also control a boost solenoid as well stan which means you could possibly wire in the stock boost solenoid to control your wastegate..

Maybe an option.. depends on what deal + the support you can get, haven't seen the haltech one really, couldn't find as much info on their site..

any monkey with a laptop (and a some practical knowledge) could tune with the xede.. maybe talk to hitman and see if they would be able to use it.. and make sure he's 100%..

The difference between a R33 and a R34 is that one auto is tiptronic with a complex shift logic while the other auto is your common auto gearbox.

I wouldn't say that there are different signals, just more signals coming from the R34.

I was also looking at the Bikirom option as well which is a ROM-tuning implemenatation - but I came to the conclusion that this is not the way to go as it'd mean I'd have to take it back each time I changed something. Not only that, I'd have to take it back to the same person!

    • I don't like "actual computers" for in car use. They take time to boot up, have OS annoyances, and so on. Arduinos etc are ready to go a few seconds after power on, don't mind being agressively powere cycled, because everything is non-volatile, don't mind being shaken and stirred.
    • As Fred would tell us, it's all about interpreting the rules. It's not a water sprayer, it's a water mister... But everything else you've said, 100%! Even a raspberry Pi would be great, use HDMI out for a display, and add a raspberry Pi CANBus hat to read values out from the ECU.
    • Being a race car, and being in the era of the Arduino, one would think it would take little effort to build a controller to do the spraying based on a real physical measurment. Waaaaay back in the dim dark AS days, JE "designed" (as in, he had help) a microcontroller based intercooler spray system. It watched the difference between a temp sensor stuck on the core and one in the free air in front of the cooler, and if the temperature difference exceeded a (settable) threshold, it would activate the sprays. Thus, it only ran water when there was an actual need for water. If you stop to think about the actual physical things that are going on in that stack of coolers, there's probably at least a couple of triggering conditions one could come up with, and one could probably even run one pump with more than one solenoid valve, to allow water to be placed where it is needed, or at all points at once (if it is needed at all points). We're in the age of science baby. But.... I suspect that intercooler water sprays are on the forbidden list in most circuit classes, no? So only good for Targa type stuff?
    • I'll just leave this with, holy shit, those cars at work are awesome, and this will look wicked!
    • Could you modify this duct so instead it pushes the extra air through the radiator too and not down and out? For temps, I know it's not the greatest idea, but as a bit of a last resort, you could use a very intermittent misting spray onto the front of the coolers/rad. You don't want to be soaking them such that water is dripping off, but a small most on/off so that the water evaporates. That point of it constantly evaporating, rather than being soaked in water, will pull a LOT of heat out of the cooler. I'm literally thinking just the little mist sprayers for a garden from Bunnings. Being in a low humidity climate it will help even more! The other trick if you want to be ghetto is some shade cloth hung in the opening, and keep it wet. Pretty much now it's acting like an evap cooler on a house, but cooling the air you need to use to cool the radiator...   On a topic to think about too though, when air enters through the bumper, is it all nicely ducted from the edges of that opening back at a nice angle, or is it like most cars, and the edge of the opening just stops, and suddenly it's wayyy wider behind that? If it does the later, get it shrouded out at nice angles. When that opening changes too rapidly, it can actually cause a high pressure zone between the front bar and radiator, and limit air flow into that area, which means less air for cooling, as it effectively stalls the air, AND adds to drag...
