DX10 is still a long way off being a standard madaz.

Drivers for the new cards are no where near stable as dx9 series cards and look how long it took nvidia to get a decent 8800 driver out that worked to a 65-70 percent extent.

put some headphones on and play some BF2 and you wont even hear it

i see no point to a DX9 card now if your buying new/2nd hand

hahaha, yeah I use Zalman surround sound 5.1 stereo headphones, and I assure you its as loud as a Qantas jet taking off at full throttle, at 12am on a still night. My ghod!! wife was pretty bitter about how loud it all is (with a big mofo GoldenOrb fan on the cpu). madaz - I hope the 3.8 chip gets delivered soon so I can pass the 3.4 chip onto you mate. fingersX'd

Well, I had trouble at first with the card, using BF2 to benchmark the 2900xt, was seeing 35fps only and I was bitterly disappointed, whereas the 2 x 7800gtx sli's were seeing 85-100fps with low-medium settings. eventually got it up to 85fps with the CCC panel and the ATI tool (small O/clock).

Can anyone link me to a site where it goes thru what settings are recommended for the Catalyst Control Centre panel for ati cards, or the 2900xt in general? Im doing google but havent found all that much. Im a ATI virgin.

getting my hands on a full version of 3dmark06 for a day only over the weekend, so will use that to set it up and forget, I hope.

DX9 cards arnt too bad, say a 7800/7900GTX or pauly's type of card. depends on the game(s) you play. I was happy with my sli's, just something wasnt quite right thats all. perhaps a mem module, who knows. not my problem now tho

lol yeah browsed thru that site.

done heaps of googl searches, so Ive got a cple of tips.

Im wondering whether I infact get lower performance using 1024x768 over 1280x1024 ?

meh, will wait till I setup the 3dmark06 and try stuff out.

stupid clans, always got matches on (BF2). want to format the raid-0 setup (hasnt been done in 2yrs), set up the graphics and reset up the HD's, but never got the time.

vista isnt too bad im told with SP1 beta it has fixed alot of issues with a mates PC

yeah @ res i wouldnt run any less that your monitors native resolution which for 17-19 non wide screen is 1280x1024 75 hz

cheers.

didnt realize they had released the SP1 for Vista yet... hmmm.

but Beta. damn Beta. downloaded a beta version 7.8 for my 2900XT that I installed yesterday - lost everything.

busily reinstalling everything onto my HD. damn beta pack 7.8 has a dodgy driver that shuts down windows !!!!!!! :)

couldnt repair it, nothing else but to reinstall windows

grrrr

LOL @ me

sore loser ? no, just a plain old loser

its a Beta 7.8 (8.40) pack, and the error was in win32k.sys after installation

blues screen of death x 20

http://www.station-drivers.com/page/ati%20catalyst.htm

warning ^^^^ I wouldnt doooooo it (too late)

mind you I installed new driver over old (7.8 over 7.7) so it was probably my fault anyway

New upgrades for me

XFX 7900GT

Viewsonic VX2025WM

I like 1680x1050 lots.

i like 1680x1050 too.

Once u have it for a while, going back to std 17" looks weird :)

Watch out fer the xfx 7900gt though, as i had to rma mine back to the shop as it started to artifact about a week after i bought it. They replaced it with another though, and its beewn fine ever since. I havent hit a game yet i cant run on full res

LMAO!

With 3 weeks left in my warranty, my card started to do this very thing.

Has been accepted for replacement, now I justhave to wait for a new card.

On the bright side, the guys at the store said the last guy that they sent one away for ended up with a 7950 instead as they didn't have any more 7900s.

Thats right. I have known a few ppl (3) that have had that happen, they sent away their 7900 and got a 7950 back because at the time there wasnt a newer revision for that motherboard from XFX.

1680x1050 is cool, not all games support it but if you go to www.widescreengaming.com I think the site is, there is a few patches/ workaround there to get 1600x900+ working properly.

I got 2 22'' WS monitors Im looking as to how i can get dual monitor gaming working.

Edited by Pauly33GTS-t

Biggest problem that I know of for guys that have done dual monitor setups for gaming, is that FPS games have the crosshair split between the two screens, which made gameplay virtually impossible.

3 screens might be better for that!

You need a matrox card... hehe, 'spensive,

I tried BF2 last night 3000x1000 res and I tell you what, NOT worth it in the slightest.

The frame rate was all over the palce from 60-15, (i had all level of detail on high on 7950gx2) and the text was all wrong and buttons werent easily accessable.

BF2 doesnt increase the FOV when you do dual screen, it just stretches everything lengthways and shortens everything vertically. kind of cheap widescreen too, ud see more on the normal rezes.

games like Quake3 where its easy to change FOV would be ok..

Chops, if you want the cursor to appear somewher else, make the game run in windowed mode and then make the resolution as such that you can position the window on more on one side or the other screen so the cursor is somwhere visible.

Madaz; cant send PM atm.

got the 3.8ghz chip today, installed, runs niiiiice

3.4 chip is ready to go, I'll take it to work can pick up mon-fri 9-5 in cbd, or we can catch up over this saturday or next week / weekend.

:P

ok cheers Brendan will catch up sometime after Wednesday im heading out to noarlunga sometime this weekend im not sure how much farther south you are but CBD is good for me but after Wednesday :P

hows the 737 going

pm sent, finally.

hey, last question from me, the resident tech-nooooooob

my actual PC is now running beaut, the final problem Ive been having for around 3months now is that now and then it'll simply shut off, loses all power during my gaming experince (I only play BF2) and simply shuts down. Have no idea why. Been doing this since I got the motherboard and the 650w superflower (sli rated) power supply.

Could it be that the psu only has a 4pin power-mobo plug that needs to go into the in 8pin mobo plug? Ive ordered an adapter (4pin-8pin power to mobo) for $10. Wise to use, or not?

Also want to use a 6pin pcie to 8 pin pcie2 adapter for the video card. My vid card has 1x 6pin and 1x 8pin slots, currently using 2 x 6pins. Found a place that makes the 8pin pcie2 adapters for the 6pin pcie for $15.

Or is a Super Flower 650w sli rated psu not enough for my system, works to a max 700w?

(asus p5n32sli deluxe mobo, ocz 667mhz 2gig ram, xpertvision 2900xt vid card, 3x sata harddrive (2 in raid), 1x fdd, 1x dvdrw, P4 3.80 cpu, etc)

Bought the psu 3months ago for $190, braided lines rated for sli etc, nice unit, but perhaps sell it and buy an Antec Quattro 850 or 1000w psu, with all the correct fittings ? dunno, thoughts ....................... can get a Quattro 1000w delivered for a straight $300 and that has an 8pin mobo connecter (vs 4pin from current psu) and a 8pin pcie2 connector for the vid card.

sorry for the noob querie, but yeah last one I hope

!!! (edit: thermaltake soprano case, 9 fans in total, dunno if its becasue I run the power thru a powerboard, although with nothing else plugged in)

    • Cheers. Skyline is back on the menu, can’t get rid of it. It’s like a child you don’t want, or herpes
    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
