Yep Ben is right - I am in the older part of Northgate (which is 10 years old), and whilst we have optical fibre to the RIMs, that is it. It is indeed Lightsview that will have Fibre-to-Node, while we are stuck in the dark ages. I need to make friends with someone in Lightsview and put up a wireless antenna to run me off.

theyre a nerds wet dream... if i still had a world of warcraft habit i'd want one for sure

im hanging out for the asus eee 1215n or the 1218. similar specs on both but the 1218 has this gorgeous aluminium housing that ends up being very very thin

1215n details : http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/07...ational.launch/

has an nvidia ion2 platform so should be decent on the entry level 3d which is pretty much all i want. the 1366x768 resolution is very nice

At this stage the laptop is vapourware but I'm still hoping they bringit out or at least have an eta within 2 months..

QUICK!

I know i just bought a new laptop a few weeks ago but now I need another one.

I need something, thin and light weight but with an ok sized screen (15" give or take an inch)

I'll just be using it for watching movies, downloading movies and just looking on the net. I have an external hard drive so HDD size doesn't bother me too much but I dont want something too shit. Was looking at the MacBook Pro? But other then an iPhone I dont know anything about Mac's.

I can only take 10kg on the helicopter so my computer now is abit too heavy so need something else and I have to get it by tomorrow (Wednesday)!

cheers

Steve, unfortunetly my work gives me next to no notice for when they are flying me out. Sometimes less then 24 hours like they did to me the other night as I thought I would have had time cause I was meant to head out on the 19th. They emailed me and changed it to the 15th so I was strapped for time to find something quick

But, looks like they have changed me back to what I was on before so not in so much of a rush as I'll be leaving on the 19th again :S

Cheers for the info, I'm going to go check out the ASUS model up from the one you showed. The ASUS K52JC-EX128V.

I should also add, that my work is covering the bill for this but has to be within reason and I need to have the screen size of around 15" for work reasons which I forgot to add haha not just for movies :D

The computer can be pretty basic it's just a back up incase something happens on the rig, I'll just be running off their systems, which is pretty basic in itself.

Thanks

haha, one of the questions i had in the interview was, do i play computer games. i dont play them so i said no.

funny as if i got an alienware one and gave them the proof of purchase with all the information lol.

i think they have a problem with people playing computer games rather then doing their work as there is no bosses around ever haha.

For those into Alienware:

These auctions pop up from time to time ....

You also have to factor in a 15% buyers premium and shipping on top though.

Bought a PS3 the other night... My god... What has been holding me back for all this time?! Hahahaha so effing good.

If this was facebook, id like this post. Finally paying for repairs to my PS3 today, suspected fuxored motherboard.

yeah when its fixed! i suspect sony will keep it for 2 months, finally diagnose the problem, then have to order parts from a country im not sure how to spell, then fit them over the next 3-4 weeks, then itll get lost in the post.

Bought a PS3 the other night... My god... What has been holding me back for all this time?! Hahahaha so effing good.

They had the 80Gb one on Catch of the Day a few months back for $300 - the wife rang me and asked if I wanted one and I said NO - what was I thinking?

The trouble is I have around 200 Wii games that I don't have time to play - how would I find time for a PS3?

I've got a PS3 - its awesome, greatest exclusive everrrrr - MGS4. I've got a Wii aswell - girlfriend loves it and it has some pretty damn good multiplayer games. I've had an Xbox 360 Pro but sold it for the PS3 and I've got an Xbox 360 Elite a few weeks ago and am now selling it... nuff said.

Andrew you bugger those Alienware laptop's look great

yeah i don't bother with console's because i have a decent PC and im happy to fiddle around and get things working :D unlike console owners just want to put a disc in and it works

Speaking of Alienware, I like that they are owned by Dell. Dell tech support just works as in they give you a new replacement computer if you ask hard enough if issues arise.

+1 Madaz, I’m with you on that one even though I have an original 60GB PS3 sitting downstairs connected to my Bravia. Use it more as a Blu Ray player and a media streamer than a games console.

    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
