Hey all,

Got 2 problems with my Skyline:

1. When accelerating up to around 50kph, there is this vibration that's quite audible from around the engine bay. This especially happens when climbing a hill. A very reputable performance garage told me it is probably the timing belt vibrating against the housing. Has anyone experienced this?

Is it necessary to replace the water pump with the timing belt?

2. When slow braking (only in reverse), it is very squeaky. Apparently the previous owner has tried to replace the brake pads to fix the problem, but it didn't go away. Any ideas?

Thanks for help,

Tony

Think yourself lucky it only squeals in reverse! Mine squeals almost all the time!

I've heard that putting brake-goo on the back of the pads stops them from shimmering in the caliper, which creates the noise in the first place.

Bear in mind that your pads are wearing in a forward direction, so when reversing, they are probably more brittle... could cause the same problem?

As far as the belt goes... i'd be more inclined to check your idler and tensioner pulleys that hold the timing belt tight.
