GTR-27L
Ive got a R32 GTR and ive taken out the ristrictor in the hose that goes to the boost controller solaniod but i was also told to join those 2 hoses together to get 15psi.. It works BUT like at 6000rpm its sometimes starts to make a limiter noise. could some one help me because my car is GOIN NUTS ON 15PSI I was only running about 8-9psi before but now that little bit extra is awesome. DO GTRS have a boost cut defender? ANYONE? Im only new to the forum so this is a pic of my car. Stevie
if they are anything like GTST's then yes they do. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/110905-boost-problem-hitting-some-sort-of-limiter-on-15psi/#findComment-2044524 Share on other sites
GTR-27L
see it only seems to happen in second gear it sounds like its spluttering then it stops and keeps hammering 3rd gear doesnt do it. but im all was racing in 2nd gear:) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/110905-boost-problem-hitting-some-sort-of-limiter-on-15psi/#findComment-2044545 Share on other sites
TTT
explain exactly what happens at this 6000rpm mark. does it cut the power completely.. like is it violent? is it like a rev limiter where it stutters and kinda back fires? doest it keep reving up but kinda misses? what happens to the boost gauge when this "CUT" happens? still sit at 15 or drop? with more description and those answered, people can give you a better response as to what the problem is. at the moment it could be.. AFM max spark blowing out due to excess boost. coil packs arc'ing out etc... GTR-27L
Ok well when is hits its not violent it holds back for a bit then it keeps on pulling its makes like 3 soft limiter hit sounds but its only happening in 2nd gear. what do you think? TTT
I think that the fact that you now have about 2 x the boost you had before, you are blowing out the spark. there are a few things you can try which will cost you nothing but some of your time. 1.) take out your spark plugs and gap them down to 0.8mm. if they already are, drop them back to 0.7mm. 2.) with some electrical tape, tape up the coil packs. there is a guide on this in the maintenance section of these forums. I did the above 2 points 2 weeks ago and my car revs out smoothly now. mine is an rb20 but same edal. runs a little more boost than stock. I suggest you try the 2 things above as they are free and MAY fix the issue. If you are in Sydney, I can help you do it if you like. Stevie
uh huh so your saying that the factory ecu doesnt have excess airflow protection which when detected will dump the timing and run rich to protect itself? paulr33
BOOST CUT DOES NOT EQUAL EXCESS AIRFLOW CUT BOOST IS NOT AIRFLOW, BOOST IS PRESSURE TOO MUCH AIRFLOW TRIGGERS THE PROTECTION is what he is trying to say Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/110905-boost-problem-hitting-some-sort-of-limiter-on-15psi/#findComment-2044926 Share on other sites

paulr33
if you are running 15psi and stock ecu you will be encountering the STOCK EXCESS AIRFLOW protection. turn the boost down and try again, i would suggest around 10psi at the most. this should work around the excess airflow protection Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/110905-boost-problem-hitting-some-sort-of-limiter-on-15psi/#findComment-2045198 Share on other sites
paulr33
oh crap its a gtr, my bad. i thought it was a gtst. sorry. my comments were based on me thinking it was 33 gtst for some reason. sorry (ignore my comments then) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/110905-boost-problem-hitting-some-sort-of-limiter-on-15psi/#findComment-2045203 Share on other sites
Stevie
I think the excess airflow protection is commonly refered to as boost cut as turning up the boost generally results in more airflow. But yes I whole heartedly agree with you. satanic
Someone mentioned that on GTSTs there is a "defender" fix... what is this product? SAFC? ECU? or something simple...
