I put up a similar fix for this a while ago, the one mentioned eariler by simon is probably better though with good pics.

I suggest doing your demister switch first to get used to pulling them apart and putting them back together as it is easier without the spring in it. good luck,

Both of mine had springs. The globe-size is 3mm diameter in both units.

I bought some 12v 3mm globes with leads soldered onto them from Jaycar for two bucks, and it looks like they should work. The hazzard lights up an orangy-red! I'll try and put them back in tomorrow.

Yeah thats the little red condom that makes it that colour, its wierd looking at it now since i've not seen it in the last years of owning my skyline

Yeah, the demister has an orange capped globe for when it is on (the little spot that lights up), and a blue capped globe for the picture of the windscreen.

The hazard button only has one globe, which has a reddish cap on it. Unlike my A/C controls, I was able to gently work the caps off the old globes and reuse them (although the blue one tore a fraction).

As far as the A/C globes go, i'm still at a loss. Without the caps (which totally tore when I removed them), I have a bright orange A/C unit. The Narva silicone caps are for 5mm globes, and the grain-of-wheat are 4mm, so the cap falls off easily. I was going to use superglue inside the cap, but i'm not sure what would happen with the heat of the globe.

Jaycar have 12v LED's in red and yellow, but not clear or blue... otherwise that would have been great as there is no room to solder in a resistor with these little bastards.

I might just order them from Nissan. They know nothing else exists. =-[

Hey guys,

I used to have a ring of light which surrounds the key ignition barrel. When I had the factory nissan central locking key-fob remote (which I have not seen anywhere else before, shame it got tossed when an aftermarket python alarm was installed) when I unlocked the car it would light up the circle and show me where to put the key in the dark. Other times you just open the car to get in and turn the headlights on before turning the key and it would also light up.

After a few years now, my ring hasnt been lighting up anymore. I miss it. It will make an appearance every now and then, mostly when I tap the ignition surround it will come back on, but not as reliable anymore.

Has anyone fixed this problem before?

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
