Hi everyone!

This will probably seem like a silly question but I was wondering if you have an aftermarket BOV but it is plumback (GFB Stealth) is it still illegal?

Oh, and what if your tinting is a little darker than it should be? Is there any way of rectifying without removing the tint? I always thought that being darker was good to stop prying eyes looking into the car!

P.S. Need help with these issues, I am sorry about the hijack, the db meter is a great idea!

if your bov is plumbed back there shouldn't be a problem.. from my understanding its only a prob if its venting to the atmo!!!

did you get done for tint? :O what %?

Thats what I thought, I'm just worried that if I do get pulled over and asked to open the bonnet, they will see the big shiny BOV and regardless as to whether or not it makes noise book me. Ok now, breath!

I also thought legal tint was about 35% even though it doesn't (or at least doesn't seem to) be dark. I have about 15% (did it during the group buy organised by Blitz) and I find that it is really good at hiding the interior, but at the same time I don't believe it is bad for driving. The only time I may find it a bit of a hinderance is when parrallel parking.

Also, what about FMIC and Apexi Power FC with hand controller? Are they illegal? Sorry for the questions, just can't afford to get booked. Besides that money is better spend on further mods! :P

Thanks for your input Mona! Much appreciated!

Even if the mods are 100% legal, they can still deem them illegal which forces you to get them checked over. It's not up to those cops to be accurate, it's just their job to report them. I've seen cars with engineers certificates still get done over. The owner just had to get everything verified by the RTA/EPA.

Illegal :P

The epa test is totally different to the emisions test.At the epa they go further than a little exhaust emissions testing. They go the whole hog,so ive heard.

Though, either way,i would put the car back to stock to pass. The time you save buggerising will be far more benificial to you in the long run.

Ive just recently been in a similar situation, where the out come was all good.I had everything bar the zorst engineered. So all i had to do was swap it over back to stock.

Though my car still passed with a stock airbox and filter, front mount intercooler, gtr pump and plumback aftermarket bov.Everything else was stock.R33 GTS-t

M2C....

Where any of you guys and girls that got busted given in writing what you had to comply with? Some documentation.

Was it 2006 emmisions or 1989 (when the GTR was made) emmisions?

Or was it the emmisions limits when the car was complied?

Was it 2006 noise limit or 1989 (when the GTR was made) noise limit?

Or was it the noise limits when the car was complied?

Was it 2006 tinting limit or 1989 (when the GTR was made) tinting limit?

Or was it the tinting limit when the car was complied?

:P cheers :O

Hey Guys,

Looking for some advice and for some parts....

The story:

Got defected by RTA for wheels/rubber/ride height - this one i can sort out... I was then passed on to the EPA where i registered 100dB for exhaust pollution at 4800rpm. The limit was 90dB so I now need to pass an emissions test. Copped a $450 fine, for that plus non standard air filters.

Just wondering if anyone could spare me some stock r32 gtr sparts ? Airbox and Exhaust? I will pay to hire it if i have to, or I will buy it too, just dont know where to look... I posted a WTB already.

Secondly, how hard is it to pass an EPA inspection ? It's the one at Lidcombe... has anyone had experience?

Thanks for your help

dude i got a standard gtr exhaust which will pass no worries in my back yard, can borrow for test for free or buy up to you?

im in syd

Driftking - yay! i helped someone!! The cops don't really know what to look for.. so like someone said, they'll still defect you... so you may still have to go through the process to clearing, but without a fine..

Fmix is illegal cause it changes emissions readings... and computer is also illegal.. don't know why!!! but from everything i've heard from people getting defected, its not really something the cops looks for.. they look for obvous stuff!!

i have 10% tint.. love it!!! only probs i have is when i'm reversing or parking at night!

Hello Sydneykid! :D When i did my emissions test, they actually were expecting me to meet the emissions levels for the year the car was manufactored... wouldn't be fair if they asked us to meet 2006 standards!! I didn't get this in writing though, it was just what the emission guy showed me when i was at the testing facility! Don't know about exhaust noise or tinting!

ALSO! not sure how true this is, but was told by a few people at the time of my test, that even stock, a skyline can't meet aust standards...

I have the same dilemna when parking at night! I know how you feel!

If this were true, wouldn't they have banned them from being imported?

Driftking - yay! i helped someone!!

You sure have! And once again I thank you!

I thank all of you who have provided input into this topic!

I just have to hope and pray that I don't get pulled over! :P:no::O

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
