Hey fellas,

I'm still saving for mine, but in the mean time I've just been thinking about a few things...

I remember a while ago, a few of you were talking about making your Stagea RWD. Now I know it's all pretty immature, but I miss the "fun" that you can have with a RWD. I have been driving an AWD for about 2 years now, and it's great, but I'd like the ability to go out to a drift day or something from time to time.

Has anyone done the conversion? If memory serves me correctly, there is a drift Stagea in NZ?

How would they handle RWD? I'm yet to drive a Stagea :laugh:, do they get very sideways in stock form? Would they just be too "spin-happy" locked into RWD?

Finally, how hard is the swap? I know to do it in a VR4 you need to weld up the transfer case and make stub axles. I'm guessing it's fairly different in a Stagea since it uses Atessa.

get the 4wd and u can do both 2wd with the front driveshaft out, and 4wd with it in.

2wd u only got 1 option to choose :O

they are damn long and i wouldnt really even consider drifting in one unless for abit of fun one time, but not as a drift car or anything, plenty of wayy more suitable cars for that.

i think the other way is to drift in 4wd with over 500rwhp which is what i wouldnt mind doing in the near future :( wouldnt make a bad video would it :laugh:

There are RWD Stageas available in Japan, but whether or not they'd be eligible for import under the SEVS/RAWS scheme is something you'd need to check...

Basically, an RS is RWD, and an RS-Four is AWD...

Can't find the website at the moment, but it may be well worth a hunt-down to see if the RS versions are eligible.

Yeah there is a guy in Brissie with a non turbo rwd stagea....... be like driving a NA R33 sedan I guess...?

when I was looking last year there was a yellow rwd in a yard for 30 grand!!!!! Think it was a manual but not sure .

wouldnt have been manual, unless it had been converted.

im pretty sure that only the series 2 rs four s came out in manual, and it is four wheel drive

mine is RWD turbo factory. Handles a bit like a laurel you could say. Different suspension to skyline.

I suspect the 4wd would handle better but the RWD is a crapload lighter theyd be quite similar.

I have no traction problems at all in the dry but it can get a bit loose in the wet.

I've got a RWD S2.

Ernie imported it for his wife so I dont know if that comes under the 'personal' imports.

Certainly does everything I wanted it to. I have booked a 'throttle oversteer' day at the local skidpan on May 20 so I'll post up photos after that. (Not allowed to mention the other word for insurance purposes)

Sheez I hope Boosted is not reading this, I just mailed the insurance form today!!!!

Speaking of throttle oversteer, all you need is an LSD and traction control turned off.

They have the same wheel base as a R33 Skyline just a bit more over hang at the rear and a wider tracl width.

I don't know why you'd worry about getting a RWD stagea. Just do what others have done and drop the front drive shaft (don't just pull the fuse) then you can enjoy both worlds. I'm yet to try removing the front shaft in mine but its not hard to get oversteer in wet or dry conditions, just gets a little scary when the attessa kicks in and pulls you back in and you go from snap over steer to understeer in a flash. Once you get used to controlling it its actually quite fun.

    • Not sure the US can import anything other than the C34 Stagea's, but if you can and you need to to tow, DO NOT under any circumstances get an M35 Stagea. If it is just as a family car and your country/state allows it, absolutely and definitely get an M35 (3.5L if possible as it is effectively a 350Z) over a C34.

    • Thanks for that, I'll check it all out. I can always do the brakes last anyway if its a problem.  The 16's are super cool, if they do fit I'll cruise around with them for a bit.  
    • Well, that's kinda the point. The calipers might interfere with the inside of the barrels 16" rims are only about 14" inside the barrels, which is ~350mm, and 334mm rotors only leave about 8mm outboard for the caliper before you get to 350, And.... that;s not gunna be enough. If the rims have a larger ID than that, you might sneak it in. I'd be putting a measuring stick inside the wheel and eyeballing the extra required for the caliper outboard of the rotor before committing to bolting it all on.
    • OK, so again it has been a bit of a break but it was around researching what had been done since I didn't have access to Neil's records and not everything is obvious without pulling stuff apart. Happily the guy who assembled the engine had kept reasonable records, so we now know the final spec is: Bottom end: Standard block and crank Ross 86.5mm forgies, 9:1 compression Spool forged rods Standard main bolts Oil pump Spool billet gears in standard housing Aeroflow extended and baffled sump Head Freshly rebuilt standard head with new 80lb valve springs Mild porting/port match Head oil feed restrictor VCT disabled Tighe 805C reground cams (255 duration, 8.93 lift)  Adjustable cam gears on inlet/exhaust Standard head bolts, gasket not confirmed but assumed MLS External 555cc Nismo injectors Z32 AFM Bosch 023 Intank fuel pump Garret 2871 (factory housings and manifold) Hypertune FFP plenum with standard throttle   Time to book in a trip to Unigroup
