Bad luck Mona. Will be interested to know if it's oil or fuel related.

Hows the oil in the sump look? Lots of golden flecks? May have just been a rod let go too. How does that look on the gudgeon (piston) end where it snapped off?Looks beaten on the lower part of the rod.

My advice for a daily driver though is RB25 with the right work and the right turbo. 26 is too lazy low in the revs and if you have a grabby clutch you will get some spin trying to get the thing going in the wet with RWD.

All the best on the new one and please post whatever you want in my thread below.

boost - 1bar

well confirm if the fuel pump is still working on not.. as far as i know she still is!!

Geoff - will do!! and yeah... losts of scrap metal and water droplets :w00t: Couldn't see the piston end.. only had a top view... so can't tell you what it looks like!

it's not that complex moonie..

look for the user CUBES. in his signature, he has a PDF file which is like a DIY rb30det guide.

go from there..

if you are going to be paying someone to fix your motor for you, might as well get them to do the 30 for ya.

probably cost less.

considering bottom end costs about $100

if you want forged goodies, then both bottom ends will cost the same.

small mod to the vvt oil line

small mod to the engine mounds and your done.

so to speak

Moanie who is having a look at the engine? like Geoff said it seems like the piston failed at the gudgeon pin which is pretty unusual? And we can't really tell if the rod broke as well.....and presumably when it all let go the piston mashed into the valves and head at eleventy billion miles per hour.

Normally pinging will blow out a ringland and you will loose a heap of compression before a rod or pin fails, so I'm wondering if there was some other cause?

moooooona

you had what, 250rwkw before?

on the same boost, on a STOCK (read: stock pistons, rods, crank, gasket etc) RB30 bottom end, you would have that power or more, with loads more torque earlier in the rev range, and would be more reliable.

If your head is ok, it would be the cheapest option for you.

if the head is gonesky as well, then you need to look at it a few more ways.

stock second hand rb25det from wreckers?

stock rb30 bottom end, with stock rb26 head with new rings and bearings?

I've seen rb26 heads complete with manifold, injectors and so on for about $2K

Justinfox is selling a pair of 2530's for $1K (one has s blown seal or something but thye were both built by GCG using HKS cartridge or something)

All bolted together you'd have some spastic amounts of power which a little girl like you could ever want.. :)

Not sure what sort of $$$'s you are looking at spending here or can afford to spend but think it all through and do the math before making a choice.

Finally... if you ever need someone to point and laugh at your misfortune, you know where to find me. well for the next 3 weeks anyway

:)

hahahahaa... yes indeed i do!!

thanks for the ideas! i'll look into those options.. it really does come down to what i need to fix! but we'll see!! and i have no money at the moment!! jsut what i wanted to spend on rims!!! so i'll be going a cheapish option as well!! we shall see! :)

    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is may e 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Dose anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
    • Sorry I haven't been following all the detail, so you may have tried this. Does it idle with the tiniest bit of throttle you can add? You've mentioned the IACV, does it have an AAC valve and have you adjusted it at all (ie, screw the idle adjust screw all the way in, then back it out a couple of turns until idle is stable)?
    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
