I hear that chances are you'd get called again in the not too distant future if you try and excuse it! Unless you want to do it at a later date I'd just get it over and done with. sl33ek
Yeah you're right. I was summoned in late March but have been excused from that. I put down work purposes with supporting letter from my employer, but I cant use the same excuse twice. Yesterday I get another summons for the end of this month. I think I'll have to go, its just really disruptive, if I get picked to go on the jury panel, it could be four weeks of unpaid leave off work. I was told they pay $60 a day but its hardly worth going Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/116455-jury-duty/#findComment-2141912 Share on other sites
Archie@
if you are full time employed then your emploter has to legally pay you. If not.. then I'm not sure.... but what they pay you for jury duty is jack all.... I had to do it just last year, the case I was selected for lasted 5 weeks. I've been called before but not selected for any jury. that was about 4 years ago now... so it's just the luck of the draw I guess... sl33ek
ahh excellent, I see. I wasn't aware that the employer was obligated to pay, I've only read stories where people had to go on leave without pay to attend court. I'm full time so I will definately raise it with my boss. May not be such a bad thing after all Cheers Archie Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/116455-jury-duty/#findComment-2142249 Share on other sites

You get paid the same as you do now but the money the government pays you gets given to XXXX, but dont quote me on that" I doubt he's on SAU so its ok to quote lol Any truth in what he's saying? Wink
Do they question the prospective jurors to get the final jury? If so get yourself off the hook by saying "I believe in guilty before proven innocent". EVL15H
I was called up about a mounth ago but got off. basically both my sisters were leaving to go overseas to live. it was the last rtime i was going to see them for a long time so i asked if i could be pardoned. my dad is a solicitor so he made up some bullshit and gave them a copy of their plane tickets, to show it was legit, and said that i am willing to do it again the next time around. AndyMac
Easy to get out of. I just drew a picture on the form. The picture had : A bloke with a gun shooting a another person, blood on the shootee, with a sun, flowers and a butterfly around...all in coloured pencil. Guess What.....I was excused........ R33GTRVSPEC
I was excused last year because i own my own business and i only got the letter about 2 days before i was due to go to court. Then got called again earlier this year and i just didn't go. The fine is less than i would have lost if i hadn't been open for business 2 days. GTR R35
A mate of mine went to do jury duty and it was a school friend on drugs charges. He was excused. I got one of my staff excused 2 weeks ago by writing a letter as jury duty would have started on his first day of work. I am 35 and have never been called, yet this kid just turned 19 and got the letter. My sister got a 6 week high profile murder trial that made her go a bit crazy. Apparently the evidence was VERY graphic and she spent 2 week in a mental hospital after the trial as she was so upset.
