hi, this is Yazmyn i am the passenger and owner of the festiva that tony was driving on the day of the crash. as i have stated on ns.com i am very sorry to hear of the pain and suffering to all who were involved. id like to thank to people who came to try calm me down although i cant remember you.

in reply to one previous post - i am not blaming the skylines in any way, i understand and believe as mos hopefully do that although tony was the driver of the ultimate catalyst for the crash that the accident was simply that - a terrible terible accident.

tony was always a very concious safe driver and as mentioned on this board i was in a pervious accident 6 weeks prior and still recovering from my injuries. As well as being a concious driver tony was also a motoring enthuisiast owning a s13 nissan skyline Q, which he was in the process of repairing (new body kit, repainting etc).

thank you all for your well wishes and support.

Drew - i hope that you are fully recovered, if not close to. i will be suffering from my injuries for a long time into the future - i hope that you will not suffer the same. i am so sorry that your car got ruined i'd offer to help fix it (cash etc) but im a fulltime student (well i was, i cant do my year 12 til next year now) so i dont have any money, and i understand how much of an inconvience it is to have lost a car as my car (with out insurance as im only on my l's and didnt think id be in a serious accident) was written off too and it will not be replaced by insurance unless i sue tony which i would never. so yeah im so sorry for you to had to of gone through this.

to the person who said its harder to lose a child than a partner - its all relative, although his family is grieving and in pain i have never lost a child so this is the worst pain i have ever felt. comparing our grief is like comparing apples and oranges.

and someone mentioned something about a "festiva cruise" lol this made me laugh - i would never go for a cruise in my pathetic festiva, it is very freaky that two festivas were in a row like that.

My next car which i will be saving up for if i can find a job over the next 6 months before i have to go back to school will probably be an imported sports model car - its is amazing to think how different the injuries to myself and drew were (and more so tony and drew), i will never drive a ford again thats for sure. all though i sort of have a grudge against skylines because of the crash i will most likely be buying one or similar in the future and in no way blame anyone or the cars for what happened.

my email is [email protected], email me if u want pix or want to know anything else.

Thanks again,

Yazmyn

so why are they blaming u? if he was driving i dont understand. are they blaming u simply out of frustration or what?

i think thats the sad part, although they may be greiving, they cant go around blaming everyone. yes i havnt been in such grief as this, and it will be a long time if ever that i will, but to do this to someone who also seemed to love their son so much is a bit sad IMO.

it is a very difficult situation. they are blaming me because they hated me. his mother and sister had a huge fight with me and tony earlier this year (his sister beat me up) and so tony moved in with my family. he had been living with us for 5 months and his family blamed me for this although it was purely tony's choice. there has also been a lot of other incidents and bad blood before and after tonys death with these people which i do no wish to bring up on the internet - its just disrespectful.

(i just reread my message "because they hated me" it would sound juevenile if it wasnt the truth).

all in all they are threatening to take me to court and stuff like this and stuff happened at tonys funeral which i coodnt attend due to being in hospital - not being able to get out of bed or walk.

thanks for trying to understand though mate.

Be strong Yaz. You seem to be doing well for someone who has been through such an ordeal. I would not be able to do better.

Take care.

Jon

ps: Maybe you should not worry about getting the next car but concentrate on completing your yr 12. Get over that hurdle and you will be almost there.

oh k, yeh that makes more sense. ^^couldnt have said it any better, good luck with it all, im currently studying year 12 aswell, i know what its like to juggle alot of things during this important year, but obviously nowhere near as much as what ur faced with.

thankx for comming and shareing with us Yazmyn is good to hear your slowly recovering, Drew will be recovering for a few years also

as you could imagine you dont recover from a head on impact of 200KPH in 6 weeks, i still believe God had his hand over us i will never know why Tony never made it though

i will try and send u a MP3 of a testomony from my church (i cant find it @ the moment) i will get another copy from church and amke it a MP3 and send it to you

peace be with you

Hello Yasmine, I'm very sorry to hear the ordeal that has been your life for a while now & I am saddend that Tony's parents are trying to pin this incident on you. I hope every thing works out for you with your study & recovery etc.

I am unsure if you have read right through these pages, but it was noted a little while back the real reason for the accident & it came down to to that road being designed with that middle lane being allowed to be used for cars travelling both directions.

It was also noted that there was a knee jerk reaction to this crash by the road authorities which then altered the design so that the middle lane was only allowed to be used in one direction.

Both parties have every reason to believe they were totally in the right to be using that lane, which unfortunately was a recipie for disaster.

If Tony's parents (or yourself for that matter) want someone to blame they should be looking squarely at the road authorites for allowing such a stupid road design to be produced in the first place as this is what caused the accident.

Yazmyn

All the best wishes to you Yazmyn,

just try to heal now...... your body is your 'vehicle' throughout your whole life, so rest and heal for the moment. tafe could be a good option to study in, take your time doing a decent course.

always remember; some things are just meant to be. deal with what you can and forget the rest; and most importantly, look after yourself.

Yazmyn,

Best wishes for a recovery from both your physical and emotional injuries. An event such as this will always have a very large impact on a persons life, and it is the way we deal with these things that defines us as people.

Yazmyn, I too was there that day. I am sorry for your loss and glad to see that you are recovering. As the others have said please concentrate on getting back on your feet emotionally and physically.... I hope that in time tonys family will see the truth that it was just a tragic accident and that you and the rest of us on that road are not to blame. Have faith in the fact that you/us could not prevent this..... time will dull the pain but we will never forget.

hey guys, havnt been on here in a while but i thougt i would check to see whether all parties involved in the crash were ok and im glad to heat that they are and are going to be fine. i read something bout a bbq and that sounds like a great idea, hope it goes ahead so we can all catch up.

Hi Yazman and all fellow skyliners,

Thankyou for your kind words and concern. I am still at home recovering but feeling a lot better.

Unfortunately it will be some years before im fully recovered and able to get my life back to how it was. Currently my brain injury limits me from driving, drinking, playing sport and doing anything where I could get a knock to the head. I also have lost a lot from my mental stamina, short term memory and ability to think and concentrate on multiple things.

I have a medical review at the end of this month to hopefully get my drivers license back. I am also hoping to get back to my work at Flinders uni in the near future. I have bought a new car but it isnt a skyline :). I bought a subaru imprezza RS off my neighbour who runs a car yard. He offered me an excellent deal in light of the events of the past months.

I am very sorry for your loss of your boyfriend Tony in the accident. I wish you all the best for your recovery and return to study. I also hope that the issues that tonys family have with you can be resolved with time.

I wish all those involved in the accident a speedy recovery.

Drew

  • 7 months later...

hey hey

Well this is an old topic i cant believe it is still up!

well its almost been a year in a few months so who reckons its a good idea to have another cruise on the same day (21 of may)?........or maybe a bad idea? maybe the day after or something.

Maybe even a BBQ after?

How have u been Drew?

After the crash i started talking to Yazmyn heaps! we became mad as friends!

well let me know cheers

    • So, that is it! It is a pretty expensive process with the ATF costing 50-100 per 5 litres, and a mechanic will probably charge plenty because they don't want to do it. Still, considering how dirty my fluid was at 120,000klm I think it would be worth doing more like every 80,000 to keep the trans happy, they are very expensive to replace. The job is not that hard if you have the specialist tools so you can save a bit of money and do it yourself!
    • OK, onto filling. So I don't really have any pics, but will describe the process as best I can. The USDM workshop manual also covers it from TM-285 onwards. First, make sure the drain plug (17mm) is snug. Not too tight yet because it is coming off again. Note it does have a copper washer that you could replace or anneal (heat up with a blow torch) to seal nicely. Remove the fill plug, which has an inhex (I think it was 6mm but didn't check). Then, screw in the fill fitting, making sure it has a suitable o-ring (mine came without but I think it is meant to be supplied). It is important that you only screw it in hand tight. I didn't get a good pic of it, but the fill plug leads to a tube about 70mm long inside the transmission. This sets the factory level for fluid in the trans (above the join line for the pan!) and will take about 3l to fill. You then need to connect your fluid pump to the fitting via a hose, and pump in whatever amount of fluid you removed (maybe 3 litres, in my case 7 litres). If you put in more than 3l, it will spill out when you remove the fitting, so do quickly and with a drain pan underneath. Once you have pumped in the required amount of clean ATF, you start the engine and run it for 3 minutes to let the fluid circulate. Don't run it longer and if possible check the fluid temp is under 40oC (Ecutek shows Auto Trans Fluid temp now, or you could use an infrared temp gun on the bottom of the pan). The manual stresses the bit about fluid temperature because it expands when hot an might result in an underfil. So from here, the factory manual says to do the "spill and fill" again, and I did. That is, put an oil pan under the drain plug and undo it with a 17mm spanner, then watch your expensive fluid fall back out again, you should get about 3 litres.  Then, put the drain plug back in, pump 3 litres back in through the fill plug with the fitting and pump, disconnect the fill fitting and replace the fill plug, start the car and run for another 3 minutes (making sure the temp is still under 40oC). The manual then asks for a 3rd "spill and fill" just like above. I also did that and so had put 13l in by now.  This time they want you to keep the engine running and run the transmission through R and D (I hope the wheels are still off the ground!) for a while, and allow the trans temp to get to 40oC, then engine off. Finally, back under the car and undo the fill plug to let the overfill drain out; it will stop running when fluid is at the top of the levelling tube. According to the factory, that is job done! Post that, I reconnected the fill fitting and pumped in an extra 0.5l. AMS says 1.5l overfill is safe, but I started with less to see how it goes, I will add another 1.0 litres later if I'm still not happy with the hot shifts.
    • OK, so regardless of whether you did Step 1 - Spill Step 2 - Trans pan removal Step 3 - TCM removal we are on to the clean and refill. First, have a good look at the oil pan. While you might see dirty oil and some carbony build up (I did), what you don't want to see is any metal particles on the magnets, or sparkles in the oil (thankfully not). Give it all a good clean, particularly the magnets, and put the new gasket on if you have one (or, just cross your fingers) Replacement of the Valve body (if you removed it) is the "reverse of assembly". Thread the electrical socket back up through the trans case, hold the valve body up and put in the bolts you removed, with the correct lengths in the correct locations Torque for the bolts in 8Nm only so I hope you have that torque wrench handy (it feels really loose). Plug the output speed sensor back in and clip the wiring into the 2 clips, replace the spring clip on the TCM socket and plug it back into the car loom. For the pan, the workshop manual states the following order: Again, the torque is 8Nm only.
    • One other thing to mention from my car before we reassemble and refill. Per that earlier diagram,   There should be 2x B length (40mm) and 6x C length (54mm). So I had incorrectly removed one extra bolt, which I assume was 40mm, but even so I have 4x B and 5x C.  Either, the factory made an assembly error (very unlikely), or someone had been in there before me. I vote for the latter because the TCM part number doesn't match my build date, I suspect the TCM was changed under warranty. This indeed led to much unbolting, rebolting, checking, measuring and swearing under the car.... In the end I left out 1x B bolt and put in a 54mm M6 bolt I already had to make sure it was all correct
    • A couple of notes about the TCM. Firstly, it is integrated into the valve body. If you need to replace the TCM for any reason you are following the procedure above The seppos say these fail all the time. I haven't seen or heard of one on here or locally, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. Finally, Ecutek are now offering tuning for the 7 speed TCM. It is basically like ECU tuning in that you have to buy a license for the computer, and then known parameters can be reset. This is all very new and at the moment they are focussing on more aggressive gear holding in sports or sports+ mode, 2 gear launches for drag racing etc. It doesn't seem to affect shift speed like you can on some transmissions. Importantly for me, by having controllable shift points you can now raise the shift point as well as the ECU rev limit, together allowing it to rev a little higher when that is useful. In manual mode, my car shifts up automatically regardless of what I do which is good (because I don't have to worry about it) but bad (because I can't choose to rev a little higher when convenient).  TCMs can only be tuned from late 2016 onwards, and mine is apparently not one of those although the car build date was August 2016 (presumably a batch of ADM cars were done together, so this will probably be the situation for most ADM cars). No idea about JDM cars, and I'm looking into importing a later model valve body I can swap in. This is the top of my TCM A couple of numbers but no part number. Amayama can't find my specific car but it does say the following for Asia-RHD (interestingly, all out of stock....): So it looks like programable TCM are probably post September 2018 for "Asia RHD". When I read my part number out from Ecutek it was 31705-75X6D which did not match Amayama for my build date (Aug-2016)
