Brand New Turbo To Be Run In?

Recommended Posts

i apoligise if this topic has been covered many times, tried a search couldn't quite find what i was looking for. Got a brand new turbo, all working nicely. Must i run in the turbo or "take it easy" for a certain number of km's? My mechanic has informed me that I must drive like a granny for a month :D

As long as the turbo was pre-oiled before startup then no damage would have been done. Make sure you start the car and wait at least 30 seconds before driving at any level of boost as you need this time for the oil to sufficiently lubricate the bearings.

if its ball bearing it should be set to go straight away (i would imagine anyway). can you imagine a truck driver being told he cant load up the engine for a month on a new turbocharger? nuts to that!!! they would load em up the second it was on the engine
