They're a nice deck with plenty of functionality but that slider bar control drives me nuts. For me personally I would run with something like a Pioneer DEH-P8650MP but it all comes down to personal opinion. Have a play with one and see if you like the deck.

Things to look for include the DAC, number or pre-outs, S/N and DSP abilities. >_<

cheers, thanks for that. problem bieng i already have the 9855R, i just havnt found a car to put it in yet :( having an RRP of $1099 and finding it for sale brand new at $750 i just bought it about a month ago, but now im wondering wether to keep it or sell it for $800 (still cheaper than RRP) and get a new deck

Some issues some guy posted on ns.com.. 9853r tho!! same thing in a way..

-the touch bar thingy is tricky for scrolling to the next menu screen

-there's no clock

-apparently the antenna goes up whenever the unit is on (even if you're listening to a cd). my antenna is unplugged though

-the cd text display doesn't show many letters at once.

-the cd text display scrolls too slowly. it also doesn't scroll the album title and track title at the same time. the album title just sits still while the song title scrolls and vice versa.

-i can make the 4 main buttons light up any colour i want, but the other buttons have to be red or green

I have a 9855 installed in my car. I picked it up for 550 off of ebay....

anyhow.

I love it to bits, find it much more advanced then the 9857 (meant to be a more user friendly option)

the slide bar can be tricky at times but there is a skill to it, and the parametric equalizer is great... i much prefer it over the equavilent pioneer model, although it does have 5 volt preouts and the 9855's are 4.5V.

Here are the FACTS corrected...

-There is a clock on the 9855, with a date, and it also has greetings for christmas etc.

-The antenna does not go up whenever the unit is on... (i would check your wiring mate)

-The cd text in scroll mode doesn't show HEAPS of letters, but i find it enough to identify songs...

-The cd text display is a little slow, but i dont know why you would want everything to scroll at once... There are two lines and they display song title and artist quite well....

-All the small lights can only be red or green correct.. I dont know of many other models that even allow you to choose. It is a good feature...

The 9855R is also a revised model i believe, as the first ones had problems with buttons dieing and the eject mechanism.

I would keep it mate unless your looking for a serious upgrade. it is a nice deck ;)

    • For anyone interested, this is my old graph from 2021, but I've plotted the previous setup curve onto it with a black pen. old setup was: pon cams, oem itbs and plenum, HPI manifold, hks 2835 pro S .87ar rear, Turbosmart actuator, 3" turbo back no res. or cat., greddy spec M fmic, nismo 740cc inj, walbro in tank 460, splitfires, 4" intake pipe, Apexi pod, e85, eboost2, power Fc. I love that the new setup has much larger turbo spec with the HTA3076 1.01ar Ts rear, and literally everything is bigger, but far higher quality and result is it's FAR more responsive in paper.
    • This makes a lot of sense! I just had that realisation a few minutes ago and wrote it above haha. This is a good new discovery. "Sanding the side of the hill" perfect way to put it.   😂 😂
    • This is probably what's happened to me. I'll put filler again on my repairs and use the long block and let you know how I go. Fingers crossed it's my last batch of filler lol. I can see that happening where my block dipped at certain points because it didn't cover all the high spots at the same time if that makes sense. I'm just trying to visualise the fact that with the large sanding block I will be sanding far away from the central dent area and whether that will cause issues or whether that's going to fether out my repairs better.
    • Thanks for all that info. I thought I heard that the size of the block should be the same size as the repair or is that wrong? Though I do have some long blocks which I can use for the dents in the middle of the panel. The issue is with the ones at the edge of the door and near the grooves.
