Yes as the saying goes..

The minority spoil it for the majority.

GTSTD1,

From your perspective, what is it generally that causes an officer to pull over a car for a general check?

Lowered, big exhaust milo tin looking things or do you simply do a quick history check?

Maybe we should all become the minority (act in that hooony sort of way -- it would be good fun too! -- you know what they say about strength in numbers) that way they will be like oh we will let that slip its just another import driver and maybe relax laws... Or bring in harsher ones!

Joining the minority -- That way you will get your moneys worth when you do get screwed over for something you didnt do. .hehehehehehehe tell you what ive got my monies worth a few times hehehehehe

GTSTD1,

It would also be good to hear your off the record perspective on the new hoon laws, I really hope you participate in a functional discussion.. Ignore the minority *cough redgtst* as he enjoys stirring and seeing how far he can push us moderators. :)

Woah, I didn't think I'd get this much reaction. Sorry I haven't posted for a few days, been too busy trying to catch little turds trying to steal cars.

I'll start by saying, no we don't have any directives to target certain cars. There are some out there who do, the reasons for which elude me. Section 160 of the Road Traffic Act 1961 spells out the law for defecting cars. Basically we have to form a suspicion that the car does not comply with safety standards/ design rules. As most of us would be the kind to look after our pride and joy, it's more likely the smoky old Gemini that I'm interested in. If your interested in a bit of bed time reading check out;

With these hoon laws, if you're doing burnouts, drifting, racing etc on the streets, then your asking to be pinched. I know I'm goin to sound like a cop here, but the streets are there for the use of everybody and it's just too bloody dangerous. Tell you what, next time I have to unwrap a 17 year old kid and his dad's car from a stoby pole, I'll give whoever is interested a call and they can come and check out the scene for them selves. Just bring a few barf bags and don't stop at Maccas on the way, you'd be wasting your money. If you'r e lucky enough to be pinched BEFORE you hit the pole, expect to have your car impounded for two days. Once you get to court, the max penalty is a $1275 fine. If you have prior convictions then the magistrate can further impound you car. I forget how many, but if you have mulitple convictions in a certain amount of time, you can lose your car FOR GOOD. (Although you can buy it back at auction). I don't think this has happened yet, as the laws have only been around for a short time.

Anyway, hope that anwers a few questions. Gotta go catch more five finger discounters.

And off the top of your head, how many safety standards /design rules do you know of, and how to test them by the side of the road to prove that they "might not" meet regulation?

Im referring to the number of police who see a car and say "too loud" without testing, or see a gear knob, and say "no shift pattern" and send these cars to regency.

Ive had an officer pull up next to me on a bike before and say -without provoking him- "If i hadn't just worked a 13 hour shift, id defect you for your blow off valve" then as the lights turned green, he did an illegal turn from the intersection, and sped away up the road.

Police like this deserve the "bad cop" label, but i have met some really nice police out there, who just do their job....fact of life.

I got pulled over the other night, coming down belair rd, Could see some car flying up behind me, i knew exactly who they were, they stayed behind me for a little while, then down near Scotch College they veared right to go to the roundabout and i went straight...........i was still looking in my rearview to see them pull a u bolt and come back behind me, They pulled me over next to Scotch, i turned the car off straight away and jumped out to see what the deal was(smelling his brakes, good old commo crap) and he says "Random Breath Test Mate" I was thinking ohhhh yeh hear we go, very random as i just stated they flew up behind me and no one else any where in sight, very random yes officer! all clear on the bretho so he asks for my licence, gives it to his mate in the passenger seat obviously checks out ok and he says "ok nothing here you can go now" i was like thank F#@%, if he had got me for a defect i would have followed him back to the station and put in a complaint about it not bieng very random and the fact he was targeting me/us! all i can say is WANKERS

Woah, I didn't think I'd get this much reaction. Sorry I haven't posted for a few days, been too busy trying to catch little turds trying to steal cars.

what reaction? Im sure everyone has a million queries theyd like to put forward to you!

anyways, its all good, maybe come along on the next cruise (if off duty of course), meet some like-minded people, and go from there (in regards to answering 'defect' questions and the like)

cheers. :nyaanyaa:

Tell you what, next time I have to unwrap a 17 year old kid and his dad's car from a stoby pole, I'll give whoever is interested a call and they can come and check out the scene for them selves.

errr no thanks 1 herific car accident a year is enough for me too see.

as they say there is good and bad in every bunch..

sum of the 'bad apples' that we see are only trying to protect us and the public they have possibly seen to many young 1's kill them selves in V8's rotors and yes turbos...

so in my opinion there not really targeting skyline drivers but they know the performance of these machines

Just wondering in regards to the Road Traffic Act, I had a read through it and I could not see any ammendments concerning the 'hoon' or misuse of motor vechiles bill, does anyone have a link to the specific ammendments. This is after an hour of googling and searching the SA parliment website.

L3nny,

Hoon driving was in the link I posted. Its Part 3, division 4, section 44B. It's actually called 'Misuse of Motor Vehicle'. Hope this helps. >_<

Is it true once your car is defected you are flagged on the SAPOL system??? Oh BTW thanks for coming CLEAN!!!! nice to see not all cops are w&%kas

This line bothers me.

"Drives a motor vehicle, in a public place, in a race between vehicles, a vehicle speed trial, a vehicle pursuit or any competitive trial to test drivers' skills or vehicles"

Especially...."Any competitive trial to test drivers skill or vehicles"

That could be applied to almost anything that’s performed on the road. It’s so subjective and the police can use this to impound our vehicles on the spot, completely bogus. There is no defence for this legislation.

Can't believe its taken me over 2hrs to finish this :ermm:

Cheers GTSD1, but this was the link I was originally looking at and I must apologise for not being as specific. I was looking for the details relating to seizure of property as I thought the 'Hoon Laws' (commonly referred) were an ammendment to incorporate this into the penalty. Interesting to note and its concerns the state government that a search was unsuccessful in turning up any information. In fact nearly all information that was found relating to news about the bill, but no link to the bill. The only information found was from a local council meeting minutes in discussing the proposed bill. http://www.mitchamcouncil.sa.gov.au/webdat...ncil_Agenda.pdf Bit of info here including the real name of the legislation. On page 22 point 14.7 (credit to ADM)

What concerns me is that the bill/act has been ammended and we know ignorance is not an acceptable defence, yet it has proven difficult to get/find the full act and ammendments.

Btw, cheers for your comments and for involving yourself in this thread. Personally, if people are stupid enough to do reckless driving then Im all for getting them off the roads I see too much of it on my daily 50-60km round trip to work. However, my concerns are similar to the original topic in that if we come across people with a extreme prejudice towards our vechiles, then as ADM has said the regs are so general it completely relies on the descretion of the officer and then up to us later either through court or regency to argue the point. And both options then take a considerable amount of time and money to get the situation correct, especially since if its defined as 'hooning' its impounding and for defect a full inspection at regency. This being said I don;t think all the attention should directed towards the police, our parlimentary members should be reviewing these bills to remove ambiguity.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
