i got told the other week that because the clamp on my blow off valve (which is also stock) wasnt factory that he assumed my blow off wasnt factory and he could defect me for that, now is that being padantic or what

Madaz, I had a look at my stock blow off and bugger me! It has a mitsubishi symbol!!!! I guess I better defect myself? All kidding aside, if he didn't defect you don't worry. As far as blow offs are concerned, as long as the outlet is plumbed back, no matter what the brand you shouldn't have problem. You might not like the suggestion but paint it matt black so it doesn't stick out like dogs nuts.

L3nny, The law would be great if it was 'black and white'. Unfortunately all you get these days is grey area. This is why some of my answers may seem a little ambiguous. I like to supply what information I can without being free legal advice. If someone took my advice as gospel and ended up in the poo, you could imagine the hassles.......don't need em.

ADM, You're mostly right. The way this reads, unless you are driving like miss daisy you're pretty much stuffed. It depends on how much the severity can be mitigated in court. There isn't much case law on the topic due to the fact it's new.

ax53b70p25, Once your car is defected it is flagged as such on our systems until it is cleared. After that it goes back to normal.

:P

It's interesting how often some of you guys are getting pulled over. So far to date since aquiring my Skyline over 18 months ago I was pulled over only once. This situation occurred on a clear saturday nite on a near coastal road, regularly used for cruising. The copper was going under 60, I must have gone past him at about 63-64 (accounting for any speedo error) max & he pulled me over for doing between 60 & 69 in a 60 zone. He ended up giving me a warning & informing me that it is illegal to do more than the speed limit.

Now contrast that with an early saturday morning when I was on my way to work, I'd come up next to another car that was going only a tad slower than me when I notice that a cop car was bearing down on me fairly quickly (no lights flashing). I was a bit hesitant at first as to whether or not he wanted me to get out the way or if he was looking to pull me over. Interpreting (hoping) that he wanted me to get out the way, I buried the right food & sped past the adjacent car & moved accross for him. To my relief he simply waved in thanks & was on his way.

In short I drive my car every day to work & back, usually in a pretty swift manner, but without being a lunatic & I've never had any of this crap apart from the odd dickhead motorist, who probably pulls the same stunts on half a dozen drivers every week.

What keeps me in the clear more than anything I think is that I don't have custom plates that are easy to remember, & my car is fairly understated in it's appearance apart from it being bright red. Even my wheels get attention of some people, but not with a racey lunatic sought of mentality. My exhaust gets no attention as it doesn't have fat piping out the back either & it is fairly quiet for an aftermarket system.

Don't get me wrong guys I think you should be allowed to make your car appear how you want it to, I just find I get stuff all attention doing things the way I have. Just happens to be my style

Its been like this for years, make your car look hot and it will get attention from the police.

It happened to my old man, he had all of his cars (v6 Ford Capri running around with a v8, big arsed flairs & huge wheels, 351 Ford Fairlane, SLR5000 & HQ Monaro) defected numerous times.

Yeah it's never been any different really ever since the phrase 'sports car' was invented. Keep it subtle & they won't really take notice, make it loud to look at & listen to as well as easy to identify & you're looking for trouble as far as (some of) the cops are concerned.

It's all crap of course & it all comes down to the fact that the way the whole system operates is antiquated & out of touch with reality. No credit is given to how good the driver is, it's just assumed that every car that's done up must have some brainless nut case behind the wheel, and it's downright rude & insulting.

Of course if these idiots weren't handed a license so easy in the first place (I learn most my road craft off of my dad & other study of driving, not my instructor, ta very much) then this wouldn't be such an issue. Then the cops could be left to catch all the real criminals doing drugs, stealing from & murdering people.

My 20 cents worth

mmm too true about the system being outdated and out of touch. Instructors are still teaching unsafe driving methods etc. in this day and age. If they want to reduce the road toll, its education that makes the difference IMO. We simply are not taugh enough as far as car dynamics etc when we learn how to drive.

The above posts raise a good point. IMO, I would love to see advanced driver training compulsory on application for p plates. The training I've had for my job was great. It opens ones eyes as to how dangerous our machines can really be in the hands of a novice. Not pointing any blame, but a recent incident just shows how much you have to be aware of your surroundings....... and BAM, out of nowhere there is some absent minded fool in front of you in a daydream.

P.S. Get weel soon Drew.

As a side note, a bloke in an RX7 was lucky tonight. His exhaust was less then a finger width from the ground and if I wasn't going to an urgent job I would've had a word. Dangerous.

i guess also the police commision is worried if they applied to change the laws regarding driver training, there worried that yound one will of done there ADVANCED course and think there pro drivers which could then account for young ones driving faster

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
