Need some help guys,

Have an issue with my car, and i believe is Hicas related, anyone knows where i could take my car here in Adelaide for someone with good knowledge of the HICAS system.

My mechanic looked at my car and couldnt find anything wrong with it; And you cant really tell when you drive slow anyway, which he did. Anyway if someone knows of a place specialized please let me know cause this problem is just depressing, and cant find a solution.

FYI, basically the car wants to steer by itself, and it can be very dangerous when loosing traction through the hills, or even just at high speed on the highway... the car has a lock kit so technically the hicas SHOULD be disabled, right?

Cheers

Hmmm.... HICAS should be disabled if you have a lock kit. Dunno about the 32's but for the 33 which I have I removed the whole HICAS unit itself and replaced it with a lock bar, not sure if the process is the same for the 32. If it is, I don't see how it could be HICAS causing your problem. Have you considered your alignment/balance might be out? Then again, I doubt this would cause the problem you are describing...

I doubt many mechanics here in Aus would be well versed in HICAS, maybe call a few workshops, see if they know anything about it, try Shaun from boostworx, he might be able to help

Steering when losing traction can be a handful! :D

AVS suspension work on a lot of imports here in SA. Give them a try.

and of course u dont mean u race or act stupid on public roads, because that give this forum a bad name, which is a no-no... :D

Definatly Scotty at AVS is the man for this job, works on many a many a many dorifto cars that i know of, top bloke tooooooo boot!

Btw, has the HICAS light come on?

I know with the 34 you can put it into HICAs diagnostic. And if it's locked out it definately shouldn't be doing that. Suspect it could be something with your front geometry.

Anyhow, any of the above people should be able to look after you.

Yep Scott and Vic at AVS are great... have known them for more than 20 years and have done good work on my cars.

Also had a problem with hicas sticking on with my old 32... took it to steve cramp at Manta racing who manufactured a lock out kit for me... fitted was less than $250.

Thanks for all the replies guys,

No i dont race or act stupid on public roads but 80 through the hills, tight roads and the car steering itself mid turn is not a good feeling I can tell you that.

The light never comes on, it must have been taken out or something. the Hicas motor is not there is justa lock kit, but the computerr is, I tried unpluggin the hicas computer, but it doesnt help i just loose power steering when i do.

well i took it to AVS suspension, just off South Road, very nice bloke, I THINK he just fixed it, but I have some testing to do tonight  , he did a wheel alignment and apparently I had -4.5 degrees toe in at the rear hehehe.

he also disconected a plug that runs from the front to the hicas unit, hopefully that made all the diference.

we'll see how it goes tonight.

well...... the plug he disconected made all the difference....... made it worse. anyway, got under the car and pluged it back in, started the car again and it was perfect, it fixed the problem not for long thou.

While cornering hard, it went back to the way it was, checked under the car and the connection seems to be ok.

Any ideas what else should i be looking at?

Called steve at Mantaracing and he didnt wanna hear about it, he told me to go to Nissan to get a diagnosis and then I could talk to him.

Called Unley Nissan and they didnt want to hear about it because is an import. :O , so after getting the same response from most dealerships, North East Nissan agreed to see my car. taking it next week.

Ok, went to get a diagnosis of my Hicas and this is what I got. Apparently nothing wrong with it

but can anyone spot some clues on these information here. (apart from the steering angle, the wheels were turned to the left during the test.)

But if you can give me a hand that would be good, I dont know what to look for and the guy that did it didnt know either.

Cheers.

    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
    • The video for the servicing and fuel filter change can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44 One of the main jobs I wanted to do before the car officially went on the road, was to remove the awful looking blue silicone hoses. There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way. Fuse box covers were painted blue, they're now satin black Another job on the list while the bumper was off, is to add some mesh https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737966256_99b28bfa30_c.jpg[/img] I was hoping to use some thin wire to secure it, but it seems I've misplaced it and the wire I had was too thick to twist easily. I ended up using cable ties for the time being https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131882_c2b7989dcc_c.jpg[/img] Was pleasant to see this https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131627_8b2aab13b3_c.jpg[/img] The last thing to do was to fix the front grill and re-mesh that to match but I ran out of time The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4FsF6tgizE&t=23s
