Just got a boost guage and noted that during shipping the vacuum pipe that goes through the nut on the back to the guage, was damaged. I removed the nut and found the little seal inside that the vacuum hose goes through and removed the severed piece of pipe from within this seal. I need to now thread the vacuum tube back through that little seal but the seal has a larger hole on one side than it does the other and I'll be stuffed if I know how to get it through, with it being so tiny it's hard to get a good hold of it to force it.

Any ideas?

thread the hose throught the large nut ..

then from the threaded side of the larger nut, fit the smaller seal.

the action of doing up the larger fitting forces the smaller part into the seal area on the back of the guage..

there should be instruction for how to do this on the sheet supplied.

so your saying the hard clear vaccuum hose is larger than the metal piece? thats strange...

but use something to heat it up and force it through.. should do the trick i.e. a lighter.. if not just shave down the hose till it fits

It's an autometer guage and the hose is factory. I I can press the hose into the little seal up to being flush with the end of the smaller end of that little seal but not any further, given the way the seal is shaped I need to push the hose through the large end and out the small end then thread the whole tube through as the tighter end is the end that faces the outside of the nut, get me?

I theaded it in s far as it would go then but the small seal part in backwards to test it, sucked on the hose to create some vacuum then sealed it with my tongue and it didn't drop so it's sealing, crisis averted. Now the question becomes where to mount it. I can't use a pillar mount as I wanna put it right down low on the pillar near the vent, Otherwise I was thinking on the steering column blocking the factory guage,

thoughts?

i placed mine WITHIN the dash where the mirror controls are normally location .. totally legal :D

takes a bit of work though, need to fibreglass up a cup, then fibreglass that to the dash ..

havent finished mine yet, should have a pic somewhere if your interested

hey mate,

if you go to enzed or pirtek you can get a brass connector that goes onto the back of your boost gaude (threads on) lets you use you normal 6mm silicon vacuum hose thats what i did and its heaps easier to T into a vac line than the thin stuff and seals no worries as its a normal vac nipple on the end.

hmm only have one here... not the best view of it, but it shows the location

making the cup was easy, as mine was the larger type guages ..60mm and i just fibreglassed around a coke can, then cut it square

its aparently dangerous ...

i'll vouch that at night my 2 gauges make it hard to see the drivers side mirror ... because of the reflection ...

but in the day its fine ... i think its safer in a way because you dont have to look down ...

anyway its the law so thats the risk you take putting them there ...

Cool, let us know when you're here and I'll introduce you to some other skyline owners, might make the stay less boring :)

If I go the pillar option, I want it right down the bottom near that vent, surely that should be OK?

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
