hey guys/gals

with my rather recent obsession with skylines etc, and my increased interest in cars (always been interested, but a lot more now) some of this has seemed to rubbed off on my dad cos he's like, "i might lower it a bid" or "u reckon i could turbo the car?"

i've been pushing for him to mod it a bit, like exhaust, filters, maybe a chip. Got him to get 17's for it actually, he was gonna get the standard 16's.

anyways, i know it's not the first car u think of when modifying, but what do u guys reckon?? Could it be done? at the moment, it's a 3ltr Straight Six, 170kw:

stats:

Max power 170kw at 5,900rpm

Max torque 300Nm at 3,500rpm

kerb weight = 1605kg (ouch, stupid leather, tv's, satnav etc :))

0 - 100 7.1 secs.

** plus a killer engine note, mmmmm BMW straight six

So looks like a pretty good platform, but whether the BMW engines are up for it is another thing. Being BMW i'm sure they are up to the task with a bit of strengthening of some of the components.

What's the basic steps for turboing a non turbo car? what needs to be changed to except a turbo??

as u can see, i have no idea what-so-ever so any info is much appreciated

is it even possible?

cheers

im not an expert at this but my guess would b

get a zaust manifold to suit turbo and eng, dump/front, make sure ur gearbox and clutch is upto the job, also make sure ur injectors and fuel pump r upto it aswell

other than that i dont think u have alot to worry bout except puttin a cooler on it

then hopefully the internals r strong and can handle the new power

    • Ha ha ha, that's fair mate! We have the crackhead dogs now. Mainly because the missus wants the crazy dogs while she still has the energy and capacity to be able to keep up with them! Ha ha our current two are both Working GSD, there brothers and sisters (from the same litters) are in Police, Corrective Services, and I believe one did end up in defence force too. They're wild and fun, yet right now, both curled up asleep on the lounge room floor while we watch some TV. Mal is very likely the next dog (unless I get my couch potato guardian dog 😛 )   What are your Kitties names? Are you planning some house work, like those high kitty shelves, built in scratching post, and some cat passages from one room to another room?
    • Maine Coone, did look at but to big and fluffy As for performance dogs, we had Mals at work, performance dogs are fun to watch, but, way to much work for this old rooster
    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
