I spent about a year looking at R33 Series I’s and then I moved to Series II’s. I was having great trouble finding a straight close to stock example. I then moved on to R34 GTT’s and after a few months I found a red one with the Nismo body kit that was in pristine condition.

The day that I was going to buy the R34 I heard about a R33 GTR V-Spec that Unique Autosports had and I thought that I had better have a look at it before I handed over my hard earned money.

The owner of the GTR pulled up outside the shop and as soon as I heard the rumble of the RB26 and I saw the car I fell in love with it. My son said later that my eyes just glazed over and I lost all sense of reason – I just had to have that car. We took it for a test drive and I could not believe that a street car could generate that much grip, not to mention the performance and braking.

I then had a new problem – I had a beautiful R33 GTR V-Spec that was simply tooooooo good to run as a daily driver.

Solution - buy a matching R33 GTS-T Series II to run as my daily driver and Joel for Aussie Car Compliance came to my rescue with a very straight example. I then had a pair of silver R33’s that are my babies and now I enjoy driving to work every single day.

The excitement from driving a Skyline does not go away even for an old guy like me. At the start you do not have the confidence to use the full ability of the car, but after a while you become accustomed to the performance and handling and you progressively develop to the point where you can really use the car’s potential. The only problem then is that you give a friend a lift if they are not used to performance cars you manage to scare the crap out of them by just driving normally. If the road is windy and a bit wet they loose confidence in the lap sash seat belt very quickly and for some reason feel the need to stop and put the six point harness on.

My new car gets registered tomorrow and i pick it up on saturday morning and head off on my long drive home.

Anyway expect my post up here on sunday or monday and i will let you guys now how it went.

I'm still working through the purchase (I'm one of those picky buyers). I want everything done properly... but it means... I have to wait.

I test drove it last Saturday, it felt like a dream (I'm coming from a 86 Twincam Rolla and a 86 Civic carby 4 door sedan). First thing I looked at when getting in the car was the coin slot area as to pop the bonnet, so that is melted into my mind... when I see peoples interior pics I start the feeling... the feeling of lust for the line.

Then when I started her up, she made the classic (I have noted the sound from my mates R33 GTS-t starting up and my other mates R33 GTR). The sound of the starter motor cranking and then the rumble.... my god I love that noise... at that moment I don't care about anything but how it sounds when it starts! The best sound of an engine starting I have ever heard.

Then the test drive, first my mate drove it (give me his overall opinion as he has been driving one for the past 2 years daily). Then it was my turn... engine warmed up and waiting for me... I took off like shit and first and rode the clutch a bit (feels nothing like any other manual I've driven eg. the 4 bangers). But then I got use to it and gave it a bit to check for turbo smoke etc... My god... I ran out of road in seconds... bearly got into third and it was time to brake. First time you drive it... there isn't anytime for you to look at gauges, or such... your eyes are looking at where you are going. First... Second... Third.. BRAKE! Never underestimate a stock R33 GTS-t.

So hopefully by next week I'll have my baby, R33 GTS-t 1993 in Red. Stock all over (as was recently imported and complianced). Otherwise... I'll be looking for another one... but no matter what R33 gts-t I get... I will love my baby.

I was an R32 GTR man... I'm now a R33 GTR man. Things that make you go mmmm....

I'll post up my drive home if all goes well... heck I even have the bank check ready for him! It's a long drive home (He's northside brisbane, I'm south/west out toward whoop whoop) I reckon it's about 60km. So it will be the hottest drive as it's mostly motorway driving.

Hopefully my mate will drive me out to pick it up in his line. Nice to see 2 lines driving together down the motorway. It was great fun turning upto peoples houses in a clean Black R33 GTS-t to look at theirs. :(

HI All,

Well i just got home after a long 1200k trip.

I will do this from the start so, up at 0430 on saturday morning and flew down to brisbane. Mick was there to pick me up and its funny but i was real nervous for some reason, i spose after the long anticipated wait and all.

We got back to SVI and Mick took me straight in to see the car, and it was behind another car they had and i looked straight passed it cause it was so shiny it looked like new. Once i realised that was mine i went for a closer look and was completly blown away the car just looked so tough, it didnt get a detail and the paint etc is just pristine.

Got the paperwork out of the way and Mick took a couple of photos and then i was on the road, i was driving like a granny just wanting to get the feel for where everything is. A few k's down the road and i took off and thought i would give it a bit and the noise "whooooooshh" from the turbo kicks in and i am just nearly wetting myself. the car is basically stock other than a cat back exhaust and a pod filter and it screams, i dont think i have pushed it at all yet as my drive was 90% highway but on the highway it was just superb sitting on about 110 at 2800rpm and overtaking just put my foot down and your around anything so quickly let alone dropping it back to 4th and bang it just slingshots.

Had a great drive home the car didnt miss a beat, everything in it works perfectly. Got home a little while ago and took the mrs for a spin and she's in love to.

I have to give my thanks to Mick and Zac from SVI, throughout the whole process i have constantly bugged them and been a right pain in the ass and they were very upfront and professional the whole time. I put my faith and my money in the those guys and they didnt dissapoint. I would recommend SVI to anyone in a second.

Well i am sure there is more to tell but i think we need some milk so i better go down the shops, the long way :happy:

It is good to see that you got her home safely after that 1200 km drive.

It sounds like it was worth the wait and you got a good one. They really are a nice car to drive. The amazing thing is that I have had mine now for nearly a year and I get the same enjoyment every time that I drive them.

sitting on about 110 at 2800rpm and overtaking just put my foot down and your around anything so quickly let alone dropping it back to 4th and bang it just slingshots.

If you want slingshot, try 3rd with a good double clutch to spool things up a bit - don't forget to hold on :O

After some issues with the Red line... I decided against buying it and have been on the search for another (few more test drives, pokes and pushes).

Finally found one that meeted my standards, however, it is more modded then I originally wanted (however, all done in the last 6 months, by a good workshop and owner has full receipts). Nothing drastic, just new cat, cat back exhuast, pod, safc II etc...

I took it for a test drive... yummy. The increase of power over the other more stock ones I was looking at is nothing less then amazing. This was also the first one I drove with a Atmo BOV, I'm totally a plumb back man, but it was good for shits and giggles.

My mate let me drive his new R32 GTS-4 the other night too (I'm going skyline mad haha). Different kind of beast from the R33 GTS-t, but completely pleasurable to drive. His has no stereo either (getting installed tomorrow), so it made things a little weird for me, as I'm use to having mine on when driving.

Well, the black r33 goes into RACQ on monday for it's master check... hopefully it comes back with a thumbs up! Otherwise... look for yet another car, and do yet another RACQ check. I'm glad I did it on the first one, sure it had a awesome body, no major accident dmg and a straight body... but the engine issues pointed out were an expensive exercise I didn't wish to deal with!

Test drove a silver R33... I hated it, I never thought I could hate driving a skyline. The clutch was terrible, the suspension was half shagged, steering was stiff, I didn't even hit boost out of fear for my life.

They may all look the same, have similar power... but they don't drive the same! Glad to hear you guys have such beautiful driving cars. Best of luck and enjoy!

Farted around at Queensland Transport getting the rego sorted. Waited and waited while the Cletus behind the counter picked his nose. Finally get the plates and screw em on and away we go. So frustrating driving through Brisbane peakhour traffic, just starting to get boost then you have to slow down again.

Finally we're on the highway and the windows go down, no stereo so no sound but the roar of the exhaust as I can finally put my foot down. It feels better than I ever imagined. And I imagined it feeling pretty goddamn good.

I imported mine so after waiting the 3 months for compliance and the car to get here I was damn excited. The first time i drove it was to the transport dept. to register it. I couldn't wait ot get flog it (even though it was stock) and it turns out some bean in a commodore wanted to play. My biggest fear was the car seemed heaps wider and fatter than my gts-t.

I'm picking up my r34 on monday :) I just can't wait to pick it up & go cruising in it all day.

I was searching around for months until I settled on this particular r34.

It's got an ugly wing, but I plan to go spoilerless when I have the time to get it off the car.

As soon as I test drove it I knew my search was over, It's only got some minor bolt on mods like the exhaust & pod filter, but coming from a non turbo r33 to the GTT is more than enough for me for now :) .

well after the dramas i had with vlt i just wanted something reliably,but still fast.i had always liked r32 gtr so thats where i started looking.me mate had jut pickrd his 180sx from syd and we headed back home.

i was looking in the new trader where i found my car...stock r32 gtr cat back wheels etc still had stock air box boost restricter and so on.the bloke was a mature school teacher which i thought was a good thing..

he had been in japan teaching when he went auctions and found the car i own today.

when i first turned up to his place and seen it i jut went holy shit thats cleaner than ithought. jumped in drove a few kms slow(as i was scared) then the owner goes are going to give it some? so i did and well i was so happy with i purchased about 10mins later. the feeling has some what dimmered as in now well and truely used to it but give it time and get her going faster

Can you believe that I purchased my GTR, When I was looking for a new intercooler for my 1JZA 70R Supra....

Spoke to Darran at Just Jap in regards to a Cooler, He gave me a second hand GTR Cooler to test fit, Came back 30 minutes later.... Daz, we have a problem.... Cooler wont fit! you have brackets or a Solution??? Dazzer's reply...............

Buy a GTR its Standard equipment....

Fresh shipment of cars had just got in, placed a deposit then and there, and in 2 weeks I had my baby...

Most expensive Intercooler in Australia, ahahahahhaha

Worth every penny, even converted Melissa to a Skyline, we just bought her a V35 300GT.

I was looking around for a nice turbo sports car, wasn't sure if i was going to get the 300ZX, Supra, or Skyline... but after driving a few and also my brothers skyline it had me hooked. So I bought a 2000 model R34 GT-T.

After I was handed the keys I got in my new car, turned it on and listened to the engine purr. I then spent about 5 mins getting acquainted with it i.e. adjusting seat, mirrors, aircon, stereo, etc. then slowly pulled out of the car yard and drove around slowly at first just to let it warm up. Once it was nice and warmed up I tested its limits and just drove around endlessly for about 3 hours. I absolutely loved the handling and was very impressed with the power. But it wasn't untill the next night where i drove around with a friend at about 2am when there was no one on the roads that I found out the true power of the skyline.

I'm very pleased with it and i enjoy every moment in it, I used to kind of hate picking people up and dropping people off (in my old car) but now I'm always volunteering to do it :laugh:

When I tried my first burnout in it I couldn't get it happening at all, then my friend said "does this have traction control?" i sorta just smacked my forehead and went "oooooh yeah... LOL" so I turned it off and off she went leaving a couple of nice big skidmarks :)

I'm so happy now that I have my 'line :(

    • I did end up getting it sorted, as GTSBoy said, there was a corroded connection and wire that needed to be replaced. I ended up taking out the light assembly, giving everything a good clean and re-soldered the old joints, and it came out good.

Thanks for pointing out. @soviet_merlin in the meantime, I received a reply from nengun, and i quote: "Thanks for your message and interest in Nengun. KG4900 is for the full set of floor mats, while KG4911 is only the Driver's Floor Mat. FR, RH means Front Right Hand Side. All the Full Set options are now discontinued. However, the Driver's Floor Mat options are still available according to the latest information available to us. We do not know what the differences would be, but if you only want the one mat, we can certainly see what we can find out for you". Interesting. It seems they still have some "new old stock" that Duncan mentioned 🤔. I wonder if they can provide any photos......And i also just realized that amayama have G4900 sets. I'm tempted too. 
    • Any update on this one? did you manage to get it fixed?    i'm having the same issue with my r34 and i believe its to do with the smart entry (keyless) control module but cant be sure without forking out to get a replacement  
    • So this being my first contribution to the SAU forums, I'd like to present and show how I had to solve probably one of the most annoying fixes on any car I've owned: replacing a speedometer (or "speedo") sensor on my newly acquired Series 1 Stagea 260RS Autech Version. I'm simply documenting how I went about to fix this issue, and as I understand it is relatively rare to happen to this generation of cars, it is a gigantic PITA so I hope this helps serve as reference to anyone else who may encounter this issue. NOTE: Although I say this is meant for the 260RS, because the gearbox/drivetrain is shared with the R33 GTR with the 5-speed manual, the application should be exactly the same. Background So after driving my new-to-me Stagea for about 1500km, one night while driving home the speedometer and odometer suddenly stopped working. No clunking noise, no indication something was broken, the speedometer would just stop reading anything and the odometer stopped going up. This is a huge worry for me, because my car is relatively low mileage (only 45k km when purchased) so although I plan to own the car for a long time, a mismatched odometer reading would be hugely detrimental to resale should the day come to sell the car. Thankfully this only occurred a mile or two from home so it wasn't extremely significant. Also, the OCD part of me would be extremely irked if the numbers that showed on my dash doesn't match the actual ageing of the car. Diagnosing I had been in communication with the well renown GTR shop in the USA, U.P.garage up near University Point in Washington state. After some back and forth they said it could be one of two things: 1) The speedometer sensor that goes into the transfer case is broken 2) The actual cluster has a component that went kaput. They said this is common in older Nissan gauge clusters and that would indicate a rebuild is necessary. As I tried to figure out if it was problem #1, I resolved problem #2 by sending my cluster over to Relentless Motorsports in Dallas, TX, whom is local to me and does cluster and ECU rebuilds. He is a one man operation who meticulously replaces every chip, resistor, capacitor, and electronic component on the PCB's on a wide variety of classic and modern cars. His specialty is Lexus and Toyota, but he came highly recommended by Erik of U.P.garage since he does the rebuilds for them on GTR clusters.  For those that don't know, on R32 and R33 GTR gearboxes, the speedometer sensor is mounted in the transfer case and is purely an analog mini "generator" (opposite of an alternator essentially). Based on the speed the sensor spins it generates an AC sine wave voltage up to 5V, and sends that via two wires up to the cluster which then interprets it via the speedometer dial. The signal does NOT go to the ECU first, the wiring goes to the cluster first then the ECU after (or so I'm told).  Problems/Roadblocks I first removed the part from the car on the underside of the transfer case (drain your transfer case fluid/ATF first, guess who found out that the hard way?), and noted the transfer case fluid was EXTREMELY black, most likely never changed on my car. When attempting to turn the gears it felt extremely gritty, as if something was binding the shaft from rotating properly. I got absolutely no voltage reading out of the sensor no matter how fast I turned the shaft. After having to reflow the solder on my AFM sensors based on another SAU guide here, I attempted to disassemble the silicone seal on the back of the sensor to see what happened inside the sensor; turns out, it basically disintegrated itself. Wonderful. Not only had the electrical components destroyed themselves, the magnetic portion on what I thought was on the shaft also chipped and was broken. Solution So solution: find a spare part right? Wrong. Nissan has long discontinued the proper sensor part number 32702-21U19, and it is no longer obtainable either through Nissan NSA or Nissan Japan. I was SOL without proper speed or mileage readings unless I figured out a way to replace this sensor. After tons of Googling and searching on SAU, I found that there IS however a sensor that looks almost exactly like the R33/260RS one: a sensor meant for the R33/R34 GTT and GTS-T with the 5 speed manual. The part number was 25010-21U00, and the body, plug, and shaft all looked exactly the same. The gear was different at the end, but knowing the sensor's gear is held on with a circlip, I figured I could just order the part and swap the gears. Cue me ordering a new part from JustJap down in Kirrawee, NSW, then waiting almost 3 weeks for shipping and customs clearing. The part finally arrives and what did I find? The freaking shaft lengths don't match. $&%* I discussed with Erik how to proceed, and figuring that I basically destroyed the sensor trying to get the shaft out of the damaged sensor from my car. we deemed it too dangerous to try and attempt to swap shafts to the correct length. I had to find a local CNC machinist to help me cut and notch down the shaft. After tons of frantic calling on a Friday afternoon, I managed to get hold of someone and he said he'd be able to do it over half a week. I sent him photos and had him take measurements to match not only the correct length and notch fitment, but also a groove to machine out to hold the retentive circlip. And the end result? *chef's kiss* Perfect. Since I didn't have pliers with me when I picked up the items, I tested the old gear and circlip on. Perfect fit. After that it was simply swapping out the plug bracket to the new sensor, mount it on the transfer case, refill with ATF/Nissan Matic Fluid D, then test out function. Thankfully with the rebuilt cluster and the new sensor, both the speedometer and odometer and now working properly!   And there you have it. About 5-6 weeks of headaches wrapped up in a 15 minute photo essay. As I was told it is rare for sensors of this generation to die so dramatically, but you never know what could go wrong with a 25+ year old car. I HOPE that no one else has to go through this problem like I did, so with my take on a solution I hope it helps others who may encounter this issue in the future. For the TL;DR: 1) Sensor breaks. 2) Find a replacement GTT/GTS-T sensor. 3) Find a CNC machinist to have you cut it down to proper specs. 4) Reinstall then pray to the JDM gods.   Hope this guide/story helps anyone else encountering this problem!
