Petrol In The Catch Can?

Recommended Posts

update:

I changed the spark plugs on the weekend and guess what. The olf ones were black as night... Heaps of carbon on them. The problems is that it is still flat spotting at .8mm spark plug gap.

I will get the car on the dyno this weekend if I can and see if it running rich. Besides the AF ratio's what else should I be looking for on the dyno??? temp corrections etc????

Ps, ECU is a PFC Pro

Got the car booked in on the dyno on friday, is there anything other than the good old fuel ratio's to lookout for that could be causing it to run rich at certain points when on the road?

Anything else to lookout for that could be causing the flat spotting. I have new plugs, new coils so far...

SK,

Some questions on one and two?

1)How can I test the acceleration enrichment and partial throttle openings?

2)Where are the acceleration enrichment settings and Cold and hot start settings in the PFC HC.

Sorry to bug everyone, but I can just see me leaving the dyno place with the AF ratios looking fine and me having no real progress on this issue...

1. That’s a full power, WOT test. So it is 99% irrelevant, how much of the time do you drive around at WOT? . More importantly, what are the A/F ratios as partial throttle openings? At idle? What are the acceleration enrichment settings? Cold and hot start settings?

2. Together with the fuel in the catch can, it is the black smoke on start up that has me concerned. Give it a run on the dyno, but make sure you test idle, cruise, acceleration enrichment, partial throttle openings etc.

3. I would also have a good look at the fuel pressures, just to be sure that increasing fuel pressure is not the problem.

4. If that doesn’t show up anything then I would have the injectors flow tested. If one is rich for some reason, then the other 5 might be lean, giving 12 to 1 on average.

>_< cheers

UPDATE:

I got the car on the dyno the other day and the AF ratios were all over the place. Thing was though they were not consistantly all over the place. We could not get it to follow a consistant path on the map tracer???

After a lot of dicking around we decided to check the the Air Meter Voltage and guess what? The volts were all over the place, which lead me to beleive that the AFM was shot.

It turn out that the plug was loose and once we snaged a zip tie around it she was puring like a kitten without any flat spotting

Now I just have to wait and see if any more fuel turns up in the catch can, if it does then those injectors are going to have to come and and get tested. :{

    • A million years later, searching for something else I posted, I was reminded of this thread. I eventually bought a new gauge. Put it in using the same probe (which has been installed the whole time stopping the exhaust gas from coming out the hole) and.... normal service has been resumed. The old gauge was definitely broken. /semi-pointless closure.
    • They're available from Nissan! I was able to buy a GTR (R33) one.. relatively* recently. Perhaps this stopped now but I bought mine ... relatively recently. I believe the 300ZX one has a different knee-point which is more rear biased, which I think the HFM one echos.
    • Hey Team, A bit to unload here. Hello from New Zealand I have a 2009 Nissan Skyline 370GT ( Type SP ) Auto 7 Speed, that I've had since 2022 and have loved the car since. Its painted in its factory QAB ( White Pearl ) with the Impul front lip and rare boot lid/spoiler with woodgrain interior. Mods since I've bought it and installed: Stillen Gen 3 Long Tube Intakes Motordyne Shockwave Catback Exhaust JDM Skyline Taillights Fake carbon spoiler and front grill ( Will be taking off.... its cringe ) VR30DETT Transmission from the Q50/Q60 to hold up to 550 Foot pounds of Torque ( 753 nm ) reliable  Currently I plan to turbo the car and have all the parts needed ( Photo Included ), I have my tuning day set on August 8th and choosing EcuTek as my tuning platform. Two of my work colleagues has their 370Z ( Manuel ) and 370GT coupe ( Type SP - Manuel ) also turbo'd and they have inspired me to get it done I have prepped quite a wee bit for this, as I had done the VR30 transmission swap over to this car so that I can achieve my HP goals without torque being an issue. I've taken quite a cautions route, as im always thinking about the safety as well as performance with my build, I'd rather do it properly and not cut corners etc etc. Any who, I've recently picked up the AutoStrada cruise control kit with all the included cables/wires/instructions. I've been hella researching around and can't find much on the integration that it has with the ECU and/or system. the only reason why im asking is, because I'm getting EcuTek and one of them RaceRom features allows the ability to switch maps via the cruise control function, which I am currently in the grey area if this would add-on via the Canbus will allow me to switch maps or have the option to use Cruise Control to begin with ( showing up on the instrument cluster to advise Cruise Control being set etc etc )  Because of my model being Type SP, Cruise Control on these models was never an option from factory unfortunately.  Anyone here that is able to shed some light on if the Cruise Control via AutoStrada gives OEM ability over the cruise control. Would love and appreciate any response and/or assistance with this, also happy to answer any question about my build and ill try pitch in where I can. Warm Regards,
    • I thought the only (new) BM57 that was readily available was the one that was a BM57 but with the wrong bias. HFM or someone's?
