First, I'm trying to figure out if the 280ZX rear shocks will fit on a DR30... The rear control arms look very similar and the used shocks I purchased seem to be destroyed on one side in the rear. So, I need to replace them with something else, and since I'm in the US, it has to be something found in the US...

Also, I need rear badges for my car before September 30th (which is the big yearly Japanese Classic Car show, where I'll be the only DR30 Skyline :P)... I'm looking for the rear "SKYLINE" and "DOHC Turbo RS"... Does anyone have some used ones sitting around they could sell me?

I can give you the SKYLINE badge, but DOHC Turbo RS is a bit like rocking horse sh!t & hen's teeth.

I have a new ex Japan DOHC RS badge, but I sold the only turbo version I had to a mate on the Gold Coast.

Cheers, D

How much do you think you will pay for a set of rear Orange Koni's in the US?

As far as I know, some of our spring makers use 240Z/260Z rear spring specs for 30mm lowered R30, but the shocks I cant help you with.

If they're an eye bottom mount & same top, the top plates can probably interchanged, but I would be surprised if they were the same length.

R30 rears are minimum length 20.59 inches (centre of eye to centre of mount plate when compressed), Stroke 6.89 inches

Hope this helps.

Heh, even the Skyline badge would be good enough... Would you ship to the US?

Now that I think about it, the top rear shock mount on a DR30 is probably higher than on a 280ZX so length of shock would probably be an issue... Are DR30 Shocks widely available in Australia/NZ?

I will, give me an adress and I'll post it to you.

I have a set of NEW Orange adjustable Koni's, front & rear, (front inserts still in the box they came in) that are available, that's why I asked what you could expect to pay in US, so maybe we could work out a deal that gets you sorted out.

Sorry, stuffed that up, typo?

I wanted about AU$100 for the rears if thats ok with you, that's probably about US$75.00 or there abouts plus the freight. They are new, never turned a wheel, but were fitted to my original project car before I stumbled onto a set of coil overs.

Ghostrider are they reds or orange?

Orange Matt, but they are the only Koni's available as far as I know, nothing else listed for them. Internally adjustable on assembly.

If you answered your phone occassionally I could talk to you about them, as I tried a few minutes ago.

Cheers, Dennis

They're a bomb from there and Jap postage is worse than US.

I was quoted on a GT guard badge and it went like this:

Badge 2800 Yen, Buyers Commission 1000 Yen, Domestic postage to buyer/shipping point 1500 Yen, then International Postage 1600 Yen.

All told for a badge that costs in Japan 2800 Yen, 6900 Yen (about AU$71.00)

How much did yours cost???

Cheers, D

Sounds good Dennis when I get a bit less busy with work & the kids.

Just by way of progress, I have replaced the centre console, sourced a new ashtray, lighter and socket and gearboot surround, all of which are now in. I ahave also found and out in a rear wiper motor and arm

As for the rear parcel shelf I had another made up with 6 inch speakers and carpet trim. It fits flush with the rear window and a new cover was made up for the wiper motor. When I get a chance I will take some photos.

As for the front end I put in an Alpine deck with iPod controller (iPod is hidden in the glovebox). Although obiviously not a period deck it slotted in nicely and is not over the top. The car came with Carizzero (I think that is how it is spelt) 5 inch speakers in the front doors which are reasonable.

I still need to get matching front seats and then a retrim to bring it back to original glory. The trim itself is not too bad just the tops of the rear seats have faded and the front seats are not matched in design.post-22767-1158126087.jpg

This photo was taken before I bought the car.

The boot area will also need some replacement trim and bits and pieces.

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
