did a quick search (through N/A perf.), and i couldnt really find what i was looking for.

just been toying with the idea of an N/A RB30 powered skyline, possibly using a GTR throttle set-up.

feel free to call me a dreamer, as realistically, its going to be a bit before i can get it started.

but with that out of the way, does anyone know what would be involved in converting an RB30 to an ITB setup?

i remember seeing something about an adaptor plate quite some time ago, but i cant even recall who made them, let alone whether or not they'd suit an RB30.

for what im thinking the AFM would need to be deleted, so what ECU would you recomend to run it?

would i be able to get away with using a remap or piggy back? or would i need a programable unit?

what cam would you recomend? possibly a GTS cam?

so yeah, theres a few little questions, anything else you guys can think of/correct me on/flame me for?

thanks in advance guys.

dave.

I can get you an adaptor plate so that the GTR Throttles will bolt STRAIGHT up no messing around for around $700 delivered to your door.

Your looking at around another 150 - 250 for ITB's off the GTR, and then another 300ish to have trumpets made up if thats the way you wanted to go

Can supply all of the above and organise quotes if your genuinely interested, have done this to another mates RB30E for shits n giggles with bits n pieces we had lieing around. Induction noise is so hot, and he reckons it makes a big difference to the way the car drives... I couldnt really comment having never driven it though.

may have to get back to ya on that one.

but as i said, its still a while off, thats if i decide to go through with it anyways.

for now im just getting an idea of what id need if i do it.

PS. Deleting the AFM means you will need an ECU that supports MAP tuning im not too sure on whats available for RB30's though.

yeah, thats another issue im somewhat unsure of, im wondering if theres a piggy-back out there that would be able to handle, for the most part, the engine will be stock, the exception being the ITB's, extractors/exhaust and possibly a cam if the stocker isnt suitable. so a fully programmable, all the bells and whistles ECU seems a bit much.

Off the top of my head try ChipTorque in Nerang, QLD, pretty sure they offer a piggy back that might suit and save you some bucks on aftermarket management.

I'll try n get some pics of the adaptor I have at the moment (for an RB25 but gives you an idea) tonight if i can get a hold of the camera.

that would be sooo cool.. please please please do it... but if you do please do a twin cam conversion while your at it.

i think hks do an ITB and trumpet set up its purple and shiny ;)

ecu wise, i think you might want to look into a power fc d-jetro

  • 3 weeks later...

ive been looking at this also

their are two ways for compinsating for no afm

you could use a map sensor or you could also use a Throttle position sensor

throttle position sensor would be more expensive but easier to adapt.

where would you be taking the reading for the map sensor??

speaking from experience, MAP sensors find it hard to get a good solid reading at idle due to the lack of plenum associated with ITB's...

it is therefore a good idea to run a TPS based map only.

I suggest a microleb cough microtech

    • Before I commit to it as I already have the wastegate off the car, would you change it to the 9psi spring instead of the 12, or whack it back on now and try your suggestion?   Edit: Actually I might just swap the spring and see what the logs say after another few pulls, as we know it's still spiking without the Mac valve in the picture so I need more data without the Mac valve trying to combat the issue.
    • Sounds good Hmm suppose the main thing is, how much do you care about this car? The filler doesn't make for a very good water barrier lol. If there was a tiny little bit of rust forming now, that in 3 to 5 years time becomes obvious under the paint (starts to bubble up), would it bother you?
    • I already have the ability to datalog the voltage... what I can't do is correlate it to what the gauge is showing when I'm looking at the data at a later date. Or something like this. Except getting the oil to 125C+ involves me going 200+kmh at the track so you can imagine this is a little tricky unless I do something like note what the voltage is when I am at the top of 5th gear so I have a point to reference on. Drove car today. O2 still reading richer because hopefully not a leak instead of massive restriction I've introduced. Car really doesn't sound like a LS. It's quite strange. Pulled a bit of fuel out up top. This does potentially explain why my spark plugs looked like the car was running pretty over-rich. If I was tuning it to a ~12.7 which in reality was far richer than that in the past. It will be handy to have the dyno WB to compare my WB to to compare notes that's for sure. At this point I'm happy to just sit in the passenger seat and tune the thing given I've got about 7 million hours on the platform lol.
    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.
