Hey

Does anyone know the EXACT ruling on Fog Lights???

Situation....

I was driving my old mans HSV.. i know i should get a :slap:... but its a form of transport... anyhoo and i get pulled over by old man copper.... he goes on about something like "..You had them on to Intimidate and dazzle other drivers.."

I told him what i thought of the situation and asked if he was going to book me for anything then left the scene.

A little arrogant i know, but this was the thrid time i have been pulled over for these and dad drives with them everywhere and never gets touched.

I'm just over getting hassled for such a small thing.

Has anyone else had this or know the 'correct' law regarding it??

Thanks

Marcus

he didn't book me....

i've been told the way it is written in the Australian Road Regulations, is that it is at the "..Driver's Discretion.." therefore i can turn it on whether it's bad weather or not....

Yes it does say they are only to be used in "..adverse conditions.." but who is deciding what 'adverse conditions' are??? That is at the "drivers discretion"...

The fact that the HSV's switch is F**ked and they are on all the time is beside the point.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but it's simple english and they've obviously made a mistake.

That annoys me.

How is it that some people get booked and some get off. I heard on the news the other night that some bloke got 6 months gaol for killing someone while driving with a high range PCA??? A mate of mine got 9 months loss of licence for low range PCA. Now that doesn't see to me that the justice system is equal and fare.

As for the fog lights personally they give me the shits... espically when being tailgated.

Just my 2c.

Rule 219 3069 use/allow use of light on/in vehicle likely/to dazzle 1 70

Only rule that relates to 'Fog Lights'

Just called a friend of mine who is a cop.... he said it's not a points offence, and as far as he's concerned, it's up to the driver.... and to take it to court if u get fined

thats just him

Discretion, driving record and how good your counsel is plays a major part in it.

The goal of law is not equality, but equity. There is a difference.

Yes. You are not permitted to use Fog lights unelss there is poor visibility ie fog.

I was booked recently for the same thing on my skyline.

Pay the fine

See, if you just said, "I just came driving from [this area far away] where there was low light and I felt it was a hazard not to have them on."

What determines poor visibility? Weather conditions or someone with bad eyesight?

:P

I got hit using them as well. I explained to the oh so nice cop that i had come from an area which did require them to be used and that i had in fact forgotten about them (honestly). He didn't beleive me so he gave me a ticket.

Its only $74 so fk it don't worry, at the end of the day most of us have our own pride and joy, let the cop take $74 to make him feel special.

Just a note to anyone driving a late-model Holden: your fog lights ARE dazzling, even in broad daylight. Some cars are offensive, some are not, I think you will find. This is most likely a product of the type of bulb used in the lights, and the lens in front of it. Hence some cars will stand out like dog's balls to cops, others will appear not to be offensive, and will probably get away with it.

I must have, until very recently, somehow avoided being faced with a Holden with its fog lights on (I don't know how this is possible, but anyway..). The other day I saw them on for the first time, and I couldn't believe how bright they were, in broad daylight! Very off-putting.

Meanwhile, I drove around in my Father's BMW for a month with a headlight out, and the foglights on to maintain a good level of visibility for other drivers, and not once was I high-beamed, cops never looked sideways at the car...

The BA Fairlane and up spec Falcon's (I think...) have lights which are there for cosmetic purposes only. They are on whenever the headlights are on I believe. As they are not fog lights or driving lights they are acceptable. Maybe another grey area you could use as a defence?

Dino, I think the lights you refer to in your post on the Fairlanes and up-spec Falcons may be what is referred to as Daytime Running Lights, and are possibly limited in wattage to something deemed non-offensive.

The Fairlane's lights also operate when you use the indicators at night, the light on the side on which you are indicating comes on.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
