hi guys

cant decide wether this is turbo or what????

my car blows what looks like normal blue turbo smoke for about 5mins after startup...on boost mainly!

but then after the car is warm and has passed all the oil its sweet!

u couldnt get it to blow smoke if u tryed!!

its like over night something is weaping and then it takes 5 mins to clear in the morning and then shes right untill u stop for over a few hours again

any help would be greatly appreciated

has anyone experienced this

NOTE: car has 0 blowby ....no smoke under oil cap.....clean cooler piping .....clean intake pipe.....seems to have GREAT compression

yeh so far ive sorta come to both those conclusions...

either leaking valve stem seals....leaking badly overnight

or turbo seal leaking badly overnight

and may i ad its a fair bit of smoke!!!!!

but then it clears to ABSOLUTLY NOTHING....

as soon as the car gets to operating temperature it clears!

just checked sparkies they are awesome colour

all the tops of the pistons are bone dry

uh.. i dont think they would leak over night as there is no pressure there, all oil just goes down runners back into the sump.:) , but when the engine is first started. and the oil passes over them while they arnt heated up and sealed yet. hmmm dunno .. but it could be plausable - although questionable. because i would think that it would always happen, not just warming up if its valve seals. especially when u nail it.

are you always warming up the car and warming down? turbo seals is the first thing i would think.

the front seal of the turbo is fine...has dry cooler pipes and no oil in intake

and someone made the point that the rear seal would smoke when hot not when cold....as the turbo housing wouldnt be hot enough to burn when the car is first turned on...

  • 4 years later...

If u give it a little rev at start up does it feel like its missing on a cylinder? if so id say your rings are on the way out on that cylinder... compression test will tell the tale

Just saw the end of your post about the compression :whistling: lol

    • Agree! I still believe I have the quietest 400kW+ R33 in Australia.
    • ah gotcha ill go remeasure again, thanks for all the tips. when i measured the TPS 5v reference voltage, i put my multimeter leads on 5v power and strut tower bolt, it gave me 5v with boost sensor disconnected and with boost sensor connected it gave me 1.4v. ill try remeasure again this time with volt meter both on the 5v reference and TPS signal ground wire.
