Hi Guys

I notice there arent any stickies in here really, i think it would be a good idea if one of the topics on gear oil which one/how much, diff oil which one/how much, clutches used and impressions, diffs used and impressions was available. Now i know some people like the search function, but it would be some much easier for noobs to find info quick and give a good reference point to those who have been around awhile.

Point in case the sticky regarding wheel offsets and diameters, thats a great one.

For example i wish the gearbox and diff "stickies" would list exactly how much fluid each one required, i have searched and so far i have between 3.5L - 4.1L from here, and now my mechanic at a nissan dealership says that the box takes 5.1L, now i only have 3.8L of Redline Shockproof, which pisses me off no end, as i dont know which one to believe, i think hes wrong though after everything ive read here, even though its very vague.

Cant someone check a workshop manual? Get fluid levels for gearbox, diff, power steering, brake fluid.

cheers

just downlaod the manual and check yourself...

as for the gb fliud...I did mine today and it took just under 4l.. I think it takes 4.1.

The redline bottle gives you 4GL or 3.78l. you need to go down and buy the small 1GL bottle for $34 and will have mots of that bottle left over for next time.

I suspect the differneces in the fill amount might be cos ppl didn't get all of it out on the drain. As with the engine oil I got out just under the fillt qty and put that back in...perfect.

The 5.1L from the mechanic, he was basing that off a nissan patrol, wtf?

Anyway, ive had the gearbox oil replaced with Redline Lightweight shockproof, i got about 100ml back, and the diff oil replaced with the Redline MT90 gear oil, used 1 and 4/5ths of the 2 bottles i had.

As for downloading the manual, i did have a copy somewhere but its lost. And its for future reference, for all the noobs, and its easily available on the net for ANYONE to view, so presumably i could say to my mechanic, go check out SAU forums and look in such and such a section and find the info there. Just an idea.

cheers

I have drained and filled... correction... OVERFILLED an RB20 box.

I took out the bottom plug and drained the contents and 3.6 litre came out. I couldn't get the filling plug off so had to fill it by removing the shifter and pouring it down. I put exactly 4 litres in. and now the bottob of the car is covered in gearbox oil! so it is overfull...

so I will be putting 3.6 litre in next change.

    • Ok thanks..that was my second question if i can somehow bypass this even with Nistune(that is all i have right now...aparat from stock ECU. So with some aftemarket it can by "bypassed" or make it work?  I know there is Link or Haltech (mainly used). We have ECUmaster here so i will gather some info about it.
    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
