Well there seems to be a high amount of deadly accidents involving P platers that are being reported in the media lately. How long do you think it will be before the government starts introducing some more draconian legislation in an attempt to stop these deaths?

i think the government is finally realising there is nothing they can do.. the only smart thing i can see them doing is introducing advanced driving courses as a compulsary thing.. seriously bannig high performace cars prooved to be usless, im a p plater, wat we need is more experience, no more bans, its a fact that alot of young drivers have alot of confidence and want to test the limits of our cars, giving us shitboxes with limited suspension and safety systems leads to more accidents.. perfect example, i drove my dads VZ SS 5.7litre v8 the whole time i was on my Ls, i never did anything stupid, as soon as i have to drive my mums shitbox 2 litre ford mondeo i feel the need to thrash the f*k out of the car to get anywhere, which is much more dangerous than taking it easy in a 250kw v8...

Yes i think they should introduce the law so you cannot get your p's until 18 which is a sensible idea, also the advanced driving courses would be great.. (need to start on mine woo!) its such a shame that only a few bunch of idiots (not saying there all idiots, accidents do happen) ruin it for the rest of the p platers.

But majority of accidents arent p platers they are mostly fully licenced adults, the media just seems to focus it on the p platers.

*sighs*

I'm sorry to say i think the Daily Telegraph is sensationalizing again...

No matter what restrictions are put in place, People will still speed, and people will continue to die.. They need to invest money into better driver education, better lighting and road conditions and crash barriers to protect roll over situations..

All the telegraph ever does is report super biased stories and then pressures the authorities to make stupid moves.

Along with having stupid people in power :)

i would rather go 150km/h+ in my gtr then go 150km/+ in a old corolla

its pointless banning hi powered cars. moving up the age group of when to get your license will still do nothing. im sure most of us here on this forum no matter what the age still do our far share of spirited driving. you dont need a fast car to speed. it just takes longer to get there and also becomes more dangerous as the underpowered car is not built for those situations.

if they want to get somethign done i think it should be advance driver training courses. i mean i got my red P's by only doing about 6-8hours of actual driving. goes to show u dont need much to get your license in NSW.

Yep.. about the begining of the year i had saw a really bad accident in kingsford, 2 p platers where trying to race in 2 pieces of shit commodores.. and one of them had rolled several times and wrapped it around a tree..

Just proves you dont need a high powered car to kill yourself..

Maybe the learners system needs to be changed, as you said you only did 6-8 hours of actual driving the minum is 100hours which i think i ended up doing about 150 on my learners (hehe i learnt in a skyrine).

Maybe they should change it so you would have to do your driving lessons with professional instructors that would not cost anything so maybe the kids would actually have some kid of experience. instead of cheating like Hanyo did

Unfortunately there is no simple solution to the problem.

the Daily Telegraph put in there ideas on how to fix the problem which was the same as what the government put in place. and since then p plater fatalities have risen.

Daily Terror is always sensationalising some story, and young drivers seem to be flavour of the month again after that recent crash.

I can't believe that people actually read and believe the garbage that flows from that paper. And whats worse is that it forces politicians into knee-jerk reactions to shut them up.

They should be asking parents and the public what they think.. im sure we can come up with better susgestions then they can!

people do

i had a job where we worked along side people from the telegraph and everytime there was an accident that we went to they always want to know if it was a p plater if it was the took photos and ran the story if it wasnt they werent intrested in it.

thats right. if it was free im sure everyone would go out of their way to get a proper driving lesson done. and yes i cheated lol but i have liek 300+ gran turismo hours

lol but on a serious note. i rekon its true theyre moving up the mark to get p plates because theyre cut that the fatality numbers has risen when they promised everyone it would drop. so as politicians will do blame something else. its not HI powered cars anymore. its just AGE.

i rememebr watching a clip on youtube about a guy calling up a insurance company and he said along the lines of:

"do i receive a gift when i turn 25?. you must be giving me a box of driving skills since my insurance goes down"

goes to show even if you are at a mature age you can still not be able to drive for sh*t.

Hahaha YES I SAW THAT VIDEO.. and loved it! im so glad i dont have a penis fee..

Gran turismo doesnt count its compleatly differnt.. haha and who doesnt play those games..

I dont thing people should want to do them if they were free.. I think they should be compulsary!

Maybe then the fatality numbers will go down.. and yes kids these days are driving younger and younger! understandable in the country. but the suburbs and city are populated area how are they going to hadle a dog or a small child run out in front of the car.

Kids with 100 hours or less experience cant handle those kind of situations. If 17yo's aren't allowed to Drink, Smoke, Vote or Go clubbing and what not.. why should they have they be allowed to drive by themselves.

too bad if they hav work or work night shift then isnt it.

i know i would have fallen in this catagorey my job was based around not only driving but it was night shift 10pm till 5am.

this will only change the fatality bracket anyway it doesnt give them any more driving experience on there own

Well if the government is doing what they said they are doing about increasing public transport etc i dont see why this should be a problem!

I got my R33 when i was on my red p's (now on my greens) and i got my licenece abtou a month before the turbo law came in, hence i drive a turbo. The majority of my year at school fall under the new restrictions, and it's this majority that want to be dicks in there crappy cars.

Most of the time to get one of these cars on the banned list (excluding old commodores) the kid has had to work there ass off and save for a car, i think this gives an apprication and leads them to respect there car more. The dickhead p platers righting of GTR's and skylines back in the old days, seemed to be in there dads cars or from a well of back ground (hence being bought the car)

Waiting to being 18 is just silly, many of my friends left school in yr10 and obviously got jobs, they can't expect there mother to drive them to work, and in some case's public transport isn't always an option, and when it is, it's never reliable.

Attempts to bring in limited passangers is stupid, they recon they will save more lives, more like increase the number of ppl drink driving. Honstly 1 designated driver to a person =/ 50% of a party not being able to drink... pfffffftt

Haven't read the thread but this morning on the 'Kyle and Jackie'O Show' the news reporter mentioned this p-plate issue and Kyle turned around and abruptly said "From now on everytime you mention a p-plater speeding or having an accident I want you to tell the public the 10 other old people or parents that do exactly the same thing... its not fair that we all single out the p-platers"

Well said i think, imagine the 6pm news mentioning 1 p-plate accident and 10 soccer mums smashing their 4wds into road signs.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
