Just out of interest, are the Vic Roads computer networks linked up with other states? Eg: I transfer my license from QLD to VIC, are they able to see history, current good behaviour periods an so forth?

For example I may elected for a good behaviour period next month, but it looks like I may be working in Vic before then, so is it possible to just transfer before I have to do anything up in QLD, thus nothing happens  but If I’m caught driving in QLD on a VIC license and my QLD history is shown then I would be in the shite?

I’ve searched, and checked the Vic Roads web site and can’t find anything. I made a quick call to my solicitor and he is under the impression that if I transfer before I elect anything in QLD I should be right to get my Mexican license.. (Yet couldn’t be 100% until he researched – which would cost me money) :D

Any help would be appreciated.

*Note* I have a residence already down there, which would be used, as my address.

Ok after a long convo with Vic Roads (wrote the thread while I was on the phone waiting haha) the girl I was talking to said, no points will roll over when transferring the license. EG: if I were to transfer before the due date to pick the good behaviour period. I’ll just automatically roll onto a Vic P license, and when I’m 21 I’ll get VIC open license as per normal.

How ever, like I said a above, as I wouldn’t have picked an option (Good behaviour/Suspension) in QLD, I would technically be banned from holding a QLD drivers license during that period of time if I wanted to transfer back.

The key is to get it all done, before I go onto any suspension or disqualification, by the looks of things. Then again I’m no legal expert.

I can technically be a resident as of today if need be due to family and property, so from that point of view I’m covered.

Be aware, that the people at VicRoads have bugger all idea when it comes to these things.

(In fact, the people at VicRoads have bugger all of an idea when it comes to anything, most of them would probably need 10 minutes and 2 other people assisting them to work out what their own name is)

If you're banned from holding a licence in QLD, then you can't transfer your suspended licence to a VIC one... so yeah... if you're licence is going to be suspended in QLD, get down here asap and make an appointment!

and lol @ james & SCMODS

(glad i'm not the only one here old enough to remember that)

haha yeh what allblitz said.. ring at least 5 times and then take an average of the answers and you'll get your 'most likely' answer..

Ok not sure about licences but with cars they're aren't linked up (assume it'd be the same tho).. ultimately VICRoads/QLD transport etc are separate bodies.

On that note, they couldn't even check an engine number that had been prev registered in another state (to see if it was a stolen car/engine.. I was unaware at the time it hadn't been rego'd in VIC anyway). A car which was defected in Victoria that had QLD plates.. had no defect listed on the Vicroads system.. however that being said I don't know if the VIC TMU would have more info than vicroads and possibly still known about the defect if the car had been pulled over on the QLD plates again.

Generally you're better to write an email/letter and wait for an answer as they are more thorough... because you have a written answer to quote them with later.

And with car rego, better to keep it rego'd in another state as a general rule... especially if it's in the NT (can't even remember why now! Different law there somewhere)

Nothing stopping you from changing it back to another state later tho.

Edit: hah I had to look up urbandictionary just to find out what your old school (old man) slang meant James - hehe

If you get pulled over, they can still do an interstate licence check.

It just means you have to sit around and wait ages while the operator contacts authorities interstate to verify your details.

joshie, msg me when u c me on msn next n ill chat 2 u bout it

and for anyone else... they usually call up the other states (did when i changed over and did a licence check). the only ones that arent linked are ACT and NT. i know of someone thats held NSW and ACT licences at the same time

    • Oh, forgot to add, A few months ago I was getting mixture codes and the car was using crap loads of fuel. You could smell the unburned fuel in the exhaust, it was crazy strong. Economy was over 17.5 l/100 and usually around 19. I smoked the engine and found a leaky CCV hose which I replaced and then I replaced my two pre cat O2 sensors, I also replaced the MAF. This fixed my mixture codes and improved my exonomy but I'm still 14 - 15 l/100 when pottering about town so something is still amiss. Throttle response is much better and it has more pep but I'd like to know why it's still so thirsty (and I'm hoping that whatever it is gives me a bit more poke).

    • Hello all, currently finishing up a rb25 swap into my s14. Having issues with starting, car has spark (confirmed by pulling a plug and watching it spark), has fuel(confirmed by checking pulse/voltage at injectors all spark plugs are soaked in fuel). Car cranks over and pops into the exhaust with a heavy fuel smell but no attempt to start or run, I have torn the timing cover off and triple confirmed timing, turned the CAS in multiple spots both directions, attempted to start with coolant temp and maf unplugged, checked my fuel lines and made sure they weren’t backwards, checked voltage at cas/injectors/coilpacks, made sure all the grounds in the harness are connected and added a few grounding straps (1 from chassis to block, 1 from chassis to head, and 1 from chassis to igniter chip) I am getting stumped here. As a last ditch effort I made a full grounding harness tonight that’s going to run from the battery and add an extra ground from the battery onto the coil pack harness/igniter chip/ intake manifold/ Wiring specialties harness ground/ and alternator. I’m hoping maybe the grounding harness will fix it here but posting here to see if anyone has any other ideas on what else I can check. My fuel pressure is unknown right gauge will be here tomorrow.  IMG_3206.mov
    • yeah I was shocked when I checked my spare OEM on and as below that's how they come from Nissan. (side interesting note new NEO gearbox and replacement park lack the brass bush on the tips and its just all alloy) unsure about damage to the box currently back at 1110 to be pulled down/inspected and selector fork replaced as he built it previously and given the never before seen failure on his billet forks he is replacing it under warranty. He said he has used always OEM the keyway tab without issue for years so it could be an unlucky coincidence. I did talk to him about the sharp corners and stress concentration too. Re: hard shifts i got 7+ years out of the OEM one and the fork itself failed not the keyway. so could be bad luck as I said or an age thing + heat cycles in box and during fabrication of billet?
    • That's some really horrible design with the way it's cut/shaped! Is there much damage to the box that failed in? IE, new fork and you can go again, or is it a total rebuild again? Id be trying to build that piece from scratch, and getting some reliefs added in the corner to hopefully stop breakage, and then swapping boxes ASAP, and then doing the same to the currently good working box. I'm assuming hard shifts have not been friendly to it!
