simple fix, got some cut and polish and cut the plastic, do this a couple of times, by hand, and depending on the grade on the cut polish, either do it up and down, or across. Then use normal polish a few times, and no probs, nice and clean.

Just a lot of elbow grease

Often the main smoky problem is on the inside of the lens - which means you need to carefully heat your lights in a normal oven to a certain temperature, at which time the rubber seals let go and you can separate the cover from the rest of the light to polish the inside.

Meguires make a great plastic cut polish that made the outside of mine look 100% better, but I really ned to do the insides too. I think there is a tutorial on how to open up your lights somewhere on SAU - do a search.

I have seen as new paris of lights go on the forums for around $1,000 from memory - new from Nissan expect $1,000 each!

to remove the lenses of an R33 is a delicate job u need a heat gun and a steady hand ( oh and hours ) lol

unclip the brass clips then on a hot day use a heat gun to heat up the silastic until the plastic lense comes off then spend hours cleaning the c#$@ off the lights and lenses, wammo done

i just painted the inside of mine cleaned the bugs out and used the maguires clear plastic cleaner and went to town on the clear plastic lenses, inside and out.

put it back with ample amounts of black silastic and they looked like brand new ones,

hope this helps

P.S a mate just bought a HID kit off ebay for $200 comes with 8000k globes and transformers. They work wicked and look great too.

easiest way to open the lights is to put them in boiling water and pry open with a flathead screwdriver.

then clean however you want.

I did Vange's lights by using vx calais projectors and silver surrounds and cutting them to mount in the existing hole.

looks awesome.

just need those projectors before you use xenon HID lights otherwise they look like street lamps.

yeah don't I know it mate - my headlights are so damn bright I have people flashing me all the time thinking my high beams are on. I have ordered some eyelids, and if that doesn't fix it enough I might do what you did, but with some Accord Euro projectors ....

Saw you the other day - why have you got your VW beast for sale already?

    • Wow ELVIS. You have an....interesting approach to conversation. Did you not notice that I wasn't talking to you?
    • Hello Liam - HA - somewhere in flies - possibly I have an update, but I have been so busy, projects have taken a back seat to getting business back on track.  I will let you know the outcome, but I think I am going to go for the 8HP,  CHEERS.  ELVIS
    • Thanks Joshuaho96, yes - as someone else also suggested, the 8HP seems the 'smart choice' - HA - and ZERO to do with cost, but I am sure 8 speeds will be better than 6 speeds - HA - maybe.  I will purchase a new 8HP,  Thanks.  ELVIS.
    • Nobody said anything about getting a "...cheap Falcon box..."- it was JUST a question about a specific transmission.  And YOU may have a problem with not enough $ - HA - I do NOT - so please keep your comments like you are some financial guru to yourself.  BUT - much appreciated re the cost of a new 8HP and I twill probably be the way I go.  Thanks.  ELVIS.
    • Most people I know in the BMW world are swapping 6HPs for 8HPs. The 6HP has a big issue with one of the clutch drum bushings wearing out shockingly early which leads to them going into limp mode going into 5th/6th gear as the oil pressure loss from the worn bushing causes clutch slip. Even with the adaptations in shifting the TCU can't bump line pressure enough to keep the clutches from slipping and burning. I've personally looked at a 335d with 6HP28 with one owner and ~90k miles on it and the transmission adaptations were way out of spec and even though it nominally drove ok I'm confident it would have needed a full rebuild sooner than later. Other than that they're fine, but the 8HP doesn't really have weird issues like this to my knowledge and they're in everything these days so pulling them out of crashed cars isn't too hard.
