Even with NickR33s results...im not convinced. The std turbo isnt that big for a 2.5L and i doubt they can provide the airflow to really need cams to help fill the lungs.

If NickR33 picked up some grunt...i woudl then ask did he have the SAFC tuned before the cams were installed?

Not being argumentative, just curious to see if we can rule out some other things

I used to have a before and after graph, it was about 15-20hp up in the mid range. The top end was improved also but, without access to the timing maps (S-AFC II) the top end had to be left alone.

I picked the HKS exhaust cam as it was spec wise pretty close to some advice I got from someone in the cam making game.

Ok, thats interesting then. I know of a few examples that did nothing with cams. One i read about and another was a friends R34GTT which actually lost power with the std turbo. It wasnt until he got the high flow goign that it shined.

You are right about over-caming the motor ,the main issue is going over the top on the inlet side with such a small turbo. The R34 Neo motors have a better profile set of solid cams than the hydro- R33 ones.

I used step 1 HKS 264deg 9mm lift exhaust cam and the factory inlet.

Cams are good, especially poncams which do not need heavier spring, valves, or having an aftermarket computer in.The Poncams are designed to bolt on and drive off...not even cam gears are needed.0 adjustment works the best for them.

If this is the only modification you are planning in the next year or so ...do it because you will get great results.

Your power output will increase slightly, but your response and power curve will be alot better.
