What batteries do you guys use?

I have a cheap ass power breed 305CCA battery and its the only one that will fit onto the tray and onto the small + - terminals.

If I turn my headlights on everything else (dash lights, cd player, SAFC) goes very dim. My alternator is charging correctly but I also have a grounding kit.

Had a flat battery today from a 10 month old battery and it was completely dead!!! is it normal for skyline batteries to last this long?

Thanks guys

If lights are going very dim then your alt isn't up to the task and should be replaced.

With everything on place a multimeter over your battery terminals and check the volts. It should be no lower than 13.2v preferably it should hold 13.8v.

An alternator check wouldn't go astray, it will save you the possibility of draining a new battery when you throw it in. I replaced my battery a few weeks back, I think your looking for a R57 battery (I think that is the code). It will fit in stock location, you should be able to find one around the 450CCA rating.

I run an Exide Evolution 480cc

http://www.exide.com.au/products/index.php

The first battery I had was a dud from the beginning, it used to go flat within 30minutes of leaving the radio on. Overnight even if not started for a few days it was fine.

I replaced earths etc and it still played up.

On the autoshops battery tester it came up as ok BUT i saw the cc reading and it was down to 400cc.

1year later it began bubbling and leaking. I had it replaced, the bloke at exide said the battery must of been dropped or overcharged.

Both of which had never happened in my hands, the pfc was reading a perfect 14.2v when cold and 13.8v when warm. Never once was the alt overcharging.

Dropped the new battery in and its been perfect since. Almost been another year.

I think mine was just a dud from factory.

i run some big-ass century thing.... barely fits in the tray, and is 500ish CCA i think... had to replace the battery terminals to bigger ones too.... will get the model # when i get home...

i want to find a small battery (physically) with half-decent CCA (enough for the car... does anyone know the factory spec?) that is lightweight... hopefully i can shed about 10kg on the r/h front of the car by going to a smaller battery!

The 480cc exide has the positive on the right and negative on the left. So the opposite from factor I believe.

It will also require a trip down to clarks rubber for a small piece of rubber mat to go under the battery. You need the rubber to lift the battery up a touch as its height is slightly too small.

You're going to have to compromise, if its weight you want to save, then you're not going to have a high CCA battery. The weight savings will only be fairly small, I think 10kg saving is pushing it.

I don't know about conventional batteries, but out of Odyssey and Optima batteries, you are best off with getting hold of an Optima Yellow Top D51, which should weigh around 26pounds, or 12kg. It still has good CCA and RC, but they don't come cheap. I have a Optima red top in my other car, and they are a sweet battery, but weight wasn't an issue for me.

    • If you mean the alarm immobiliser; theyre internal to the alarm itself which makes that difficult; I couldnt even see where he put it; its not in the same place as last time; but with all black wiring it might be very challenging to trace  I had someone turn the key for me as I know it only primes for a couple of seconds As my post above; I am getting no voltage to the pump at all; but I am testing continuity of the power line (SB) from the pump plug to the relay fine. As well as the negative from the pump plug to a 12V constant.    Yeah; he blammed the no start on a bad battery; said I needed to get a new battery and it'll start. Turns out the battery drained because the tail lights had been on for half the day during the install (the rubber cushion on the brake switch gave out while he was testing it as I have a picture of the car from that morning with the tail lights off..i've replaced that). The battery was turning over the engine just fine for a long time; but got low since lights were draining it so it was too low to test a start after he finished. I bought a new one on his advice...$250 wasted. My original battery charged up just fine and is healthy.    It was running perfectly fine when I messed up the old alarm (programmed out the remotes). He couldnt start it after removing the old alarm; my assumption is that when he unhooked it; he didnt bridge the circuit back when trying to start it. Its always been perfectly fine. The ECU swap and pump were 2 years ago. It's never missed a beat in that time.
    • This is a big issue for me without the diff. I just have zero drive from the passenger side when drivers side has no traction. Bec's parents place has a crazy steep driveway with odd camber and I have never been able to get up. My bro-in-law's 130i with an (unknown brand) LSD gets up fine as does their dad's Hiace. My car stays at the bottom. We have other odd camber roads around here as we're elevated a bit and if it's raining I can get totally stuck around some hairpins.
    • Yeah, I am super excited for this.
    • Was the car running before he touched the car?
