I currently have an r33 and was searching for an intercooler. Although this seems rather hard to do as there doesnt seem to be all that much info out there. The only place i have looked at is Autobarn and they are a rip off and ebay which seem too cheap.

Can anyone give any tips before buying one, i dont wanna get ripped off and i want one which will fit right in so the bar only has to be cut in one place. I have found a GReddy one for $800 and have heard ACE also make good ones. What brands to other ppl have and are the hybrids any good... And is tube and fin better than bar and plate... sorry for all the questions, just a little confused and wanna do my research before handing over the money.

Ta! :)

Kylee...

P.S Anyone know where to get them put in in Melbourne, eastern subrubs if possible...

Any good workshop can fit the intercooler for you.

I use the Cooling-Pro kit from Just Jap on my R32 and it fits and works a treat. They are available on this very forum for $345.

Remember that with almost any FMIC kit you buy, your bar will most likely require trimming and you will need a hole in your inner guard to accomodate the cooler plumbing :)

Hybrid is a good value for money brand, plenty of sponsors on this site offer them at good prices :P

If you want to pay the money, Greddy and HKS both make great kits and also are available from dealers. I feel with intercoolers you pay for what you get :)

bar and plate coolers are the shiz, and ebay is fine if your buying from a reputable business... you can look in the for sale section on this site aswell... heres one i prepared earlier

CRD - Trader

also: justjap.com, greenline.com, hybrid kits from sydney, ebay............. the list goes on for places to buy. If you want to know more about coolers, google is your freind. Trust, ARC, Apexi and Hybrid are all what you be aiming for.

good luck

Kewl thanx for the info guys...i have been told so many different things. my mechanic also mentioned if i get one under $1000 its not gonna work too well. I found a GReddy one i like, its $800 at Autobarn and at VPW its only $350 for the same one as they sell wholesale...

Lots of people tell stories when they dont know what they are talking about.

From memory someone posted that they fitted the Cooling-Pro kit to their Supra after a single turbo conversion and its pushing out 480hp at the wheels or something along those lines.

Why are bar and plate intercoolers sh!t?

Have you ever used one?

Personally i think bar and plate intercoolers are heaps better.

Hey Ky R33,

hybrid are ok but you have to cut way to many things in your engine bay, you are better of getting the cooler and get a mehanic to make you custom piping.

Yeah wasnt too keen on getting a hybrid. Found a GReddy one which im happy with. I dont wanna make huge power so its fine 4 what i need. Its tube and fin and pretty much fits right in, Getting it from VPW in Epping cos there heaps cheaper. Had a look at just jap, there quite cheap but i dunno about the quality...

ne ways thanx for your comments... All taken onboard!

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
