I'm looking at buying a set of used wheels from another forum member and want to make sure I'm getting the offset maths correct

The current stock wheels are

F 17 x 9 - 30 offset

R 17 x 9 - 30 offset

the wheel I'm looking at are

F 17 x 8.5 - 28 offset

R 17 x 9 - 37 offset

Using the handy calculator I found on another post (http://marksink.com/tire_wheel_offset/offset.html), I've worked out that

The front wheel will have 8mm more clearance from the strut housing and will be 4mm into the body

The rear wheel will have 7mm less clearance fom the strut housing and wont change relative to the body

If I'm thinking about this correctly, the fronts are no problem. My question is the rears. Is 7mm a critical amount? How do I measure to check?

If you have a GT-R, then you DO NOT want different sized wheels on the front compared to the rear. Otherwise you will be (re-)posting a(nother) thread that your AWD is misbehaving.

Not that you say that, the logic is pretty obvious, as is why all 4 wheel on my car are the same size. Thanks!

Your calc is partly correct for the fronts assuming the offsets are +28and +37( not-28 and -37). So fronts will be 2mm further out lees 6 mm because they are 12mm narrower( half of that) so the net effect will be 4mm further in but only 4mm further away from the struts.

I dont know how you worked the reats but its totally out. They will be sitting 7mm to the inside of the guards and 7 mm closer to the struts.

Why would anyone want to use narrower rims on a GTR? Why would you want to use different size wheels ?

The above offsets u quoted are more suited to RWD GTSTs. You have a GTR, take advantage of this!! Due to wider guards, GTRs can run offsets between +15 to +20 depending on wheel width. Something that us, non GTR owners envy.

Smaller offset wheels also normally translate to more dish and aggresively angled spokes which make them look much hotter than if the same wheel was on a GTST...if that makes sense..

Oh and yeah...for a GTR, try and run 4 of the same width n offset wheels all round.

As long as you get tyres that are the same very similar rolling diameter, you will be fine. Dont forget that new tyres come with 8mm tread. So there is potentially 16mm difference in rolling diameter when you buy a pair of new front tyres. That is less than the difference between a 235/45R17 and a 245/40R17.

But getting the same size tyres all round would probly be a better idea.

Buy those wheels and give me your old wheels :(

    • These coils draw 10amps that what i read online
    • I appreciate the detailed explanation, think I understand now. I spent the better part of last night reading what I could about shuffle and potential solutions. I had replaced the OEM twin turbo pipe with an alternate Y pipe that is separated further away from the turbo. The current one is from HKS and I had a previous pipe that was separated even further away, both have shuffle. I had heard that a divider can be welded in to the OEM pipe to remove turbulence, and figure that aftermarket pipes that are more separated would achieve the same thing. From what I read, most people with -10 turbos get shuffle due to their size, though it's a bit less common with -5s on a standard RB26. I think Nismoid mentioned somewhere it's because OEM recirculation piping is common in Australia with -5 cars. It seems that the recommendation tends to vary between a few options, which I've ordered in what I think is most feasible for me:  1. Retune the MAP or boost controller to try to eliminate shuffle 2. Install OEM recirculation piping 3. Something called a 'balance pipe' welded onto the exhaust manifolds. I don't know if kits for this are available, seems like pure fabrication work 4. simply go single turbo My current layout is as follows: Garrett 2860 -5s HKS Racing Suction intake MAF delete pipes HKS racing chamber intake piping hard intercooler piping,  ARC intercooler HKS SSQV BOV and pipe Haltech 2500 elite ECU and boost solenoid/controller HPI dump pipes OEM exhaust manifolds HKS VCAM step 1 and supporting head modifications Built 2.6 bottom end All OEM recirculation piping was removed, relevant areas sealed off I'll keep an eye out for any alternative solutions but can get started with this.  Only other question is, does shuffle harm the turbo (or anything else)? It seems like some people say your turbo shafts will explode because of the opposing forces after a while and others say they just live with it and adjust their pedal foot accordingly.
    • That worked out PERFECTLY! Thank you big time to JJ. He was able to swap me his stock diff. He drove all the way to me as well. Killer! Removal & install was pretty straightforward. The diff itself is HEAVY. So that’s a 2 man job.  Man does the car drive nice now! Couldn’t have worked out any better 👌
    • I'm interested,do you still have it?
