I am interested in this thread too, as I have been thinking of importing a complete stage 2 Mines crate engine for a while now(Im serious guys) . I Want to know who to contact to perform the import process and the pros and cons (if any) of doing this.

Cheers Ants

Importing yourself you will need to arrange a shipping agent on the Japanese side and then just enlist a customs broker here to handle the paperwork when it lands. Main trouble may be arranging the shipping over there if you don't speak Japanese.

If you can't speak Japanese I'd suggest you get someone else to arrange it. Your previous thread yielded some decent contacts - Kudos Motorsports, Just Jap, Slidewize, PowerPlay. You could probably go through a workshop like CRD too.

A Mines Stage II is 1,890,000 yen so $20,000 plus FOB, Freight and Duty I would look at around $25,000 but don't quote me on that one, from the right person at the right time Tax Free Status can be sourced as well ex Japan.

But if you import direct yourself it is like a car do you want to risk something going wrong.

Thanks guys, I will consider calling established importers such as powerplay since they got the Z-tune an engine should be a peice of cake.

I will all let you know what will happen as I'm also considering a Tomei 2.8 (N1 block) as that may be a bit cheaper than the Mines complete stageII engine.

Thanks AS.

If you're going Tomei easiest option would be through the local distributors:

Hi Octane Racing (NSW) http://www.hioctaneracing.com.au

Access Auto Engineering (VIC) http://www.accessauto.com.au

For something like this I would state as above even though it cost more if their is a problem you have them to help you, a deposit is better compared to an all out payment then hoping nothing goes wrong, personally I have other options but I would never look at sourcing these for someone else and I will always recommend buy from a local agent.

On another note I do believe in buying a crate motor from Japan over getting one rebuilt here by a smaller workshop and the ones I would trust cost the same in the long run but that is only my view, I am in WA now and time frame here is a killer and for me time cost money.

I definately understand what your saying I have thought long about this and came to the same conclusion. I will most likely get a crate engine as all I should have to worry about after I get is just the paying for the instalation and tuning costs.

I will put up a spreadsheet soon for people to see what the costs are of importing crate engines from different tuners in Japan to Australia.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
