Hi all,

just wondering if an R34 owner with STOCK/FACTORY/OEM Xenon headlights could please take a picture of their headlights at night, point down the street, or preferably at a wall from a decent distance?

My headlights were gutted during compliance, but i know a lot of R34's managed to slip through without this happening. I'm deciding whether i want to go to standard (which i've not seen before in person) or maybe go projector retro-fit. But if the stock light is good enough, i'll go that way (cheaper)

so yeah, if someone could take some pics, that would be awesome!!!!

cheers,

chinny

No pictures but trust me go the stockers.

I have mates with projection style HID lights (even factory Subaru ones)

and they complain about the light putting them off when thrashing it around the hills at night with no street lighting.

The problem with projection ones is that you have great bright lights for about x meters ahead of you, after which it cuts straight off to pitch black.

Standard R34 xenons gradually fade out so it is not as bad. The projection ones are like white in front of you, then become pitch black after a certain point. It is kind of scarey.

Factory xenons give an excellent light, I have them on mine .

Series III GTR's have projector xenons and they very good too but the 34 reflectors are better.

Converted xenons ( to halogen ) are crap, you can't see anything in rain !!!

ok... why the hell are the aftermarket HID's burning (or seems to be) the plastic covering of my lights??? :), certainly discolouring it..

now i know non-Xenon assembly's can't handle the heat of a HID globe, but mine are factor Xenon assembly's. Why the hell does the cover look like it's melting? (reflectors are fine, no marking on the inside)

No, you've just got some dodgy HID kit in there that doesn't dissipate the heat well enough... I'd take em out quick smart before you get some seedy brown colour developing on the inside of the lens.

    • Before I get to the test day, just to finish off the android head unit. This is a demo from car start up....the standard/host system takes a few seconds to boot (same as all v37) but Android comes up quickly. In this vid I'm using the delivered launcher but have set the default to Agami since which is easier to navigate when if use primarily 5 apps. You can see the host system still takes over when required eg putting it in reverse, and you can switch between Android and not by holding the back button 3 sec. It is pretty responsive (fast) but you can see I had to press harder than expected a couple of times.  I still have the phone connected to the stock system, and that also seamlessly takes over Android music playing. v37-android-demo.mp4 The bigger reason that I put this in though is so that I can use Ecutek directly on the head unit. That gives me a dash with logging (up to 20MB only), high and low value warnings on any parameter etc etc. I've run a USB cable from the Ecutek OBD dongle to a USB input on the unit, easy. v37-ecutek-demo.mp4   The unit did freeze on the launcher the other day, I think Agami was trying to verify the license when it didn't have a data connection...will monitor and report back if there are any other problems but so far I'm very happy with the upgrade.
    • Nah that is just crappy GPS mapping, I did have a small excursion (cold tyres, damp track, surprise!), will post up that when I get a chance.
    • So 10/10 times that code is coil packs? I mean if that's the case ill drop the $400USD or so to replace them. I didn't know these cars threw codes before the issue became an issue.
