Hi guys, my mods are as stated in my sig. Recently i had my safcII apparently 'tuned' and i would have assumed that in the higher revs especially, reffering to high throttle mode, that the correction would be made to make the car run leaner rather than richer. I found my car was hitting a fuel cut or something at around 10psi on cold nights which never happened before. So i checked the setting of high throttle and this is what i found.

1400 -3%

1600 -16%

2200 0%

2400 -1%

3400 +3%

4000 +11%

4600 +13%

5200 +17%

5800 +6%

6400 +16%

7000 +10%

7600 +10%

Now would this explain why i am hitting this fuel cut? cos the ecu now thinks its getting even more air than it rwally is?? Unfortunatley the 'tuner' never provided me with afr's or anything but you would assume with the mods i have and standard management that the car would already be runnign hella rich... like 300 km's per tank (fairly heavy throttle at times though :) ) Do these settings seem right for the mods i have? - i would have expected (-) correction in th higher revs...

See thats what i mean, you are having fuel taken out whilst mine is being put in!! i rekon the guy screwed me over- i put the seetings back to 0 correction and i reckon the car pulls heaps better.

Ur correction setting are all over the place, im assuming ur stock gyno graph is not smooth as well. This would indicate in my limited opinion that there are some other issues with the cars performance and ur tuner has just tried to band aid it by tuing the safc. I would get it soreted first with no safc corrections then tune it again. Should have a fairly smooth curve for a skyline. what conncernes me is the correctiosn u have at low rpm before 400rm, also seems like he has added fuel? which is unusalus for a r33 unless there are other issues

Personally i think the guy had little to know idea what he was doin, cos the power curve before the tune was quite smooth and the one after was all over the shop. I'm gonna get a different tuner to look at it, then go back to where i originally got it done and see just what the hell is going on - cos i feel ripped off. I wound the corrections back to zero and in reckon the car pulls better! i will not be going back to these people...

  • 1 month later...

I have had the standard tale of wow, i got a hiflow turbo, cheep. bolted on and heaps a boost but a big miss.....

installed SAFC, miss started to lessen but still present @4000 rpm...reduced the fuel..

chased that down to bad coil, replaced it and taped all ciols.

big miss @4000 gone, but small miss @5000....

booked in for dyno soon but very interested to know what others SAFC are running@

where is your Hi / Low % set?

previously my settings were all + across the rev range, never had the - correction. Until recently a tuner made it all to - corrections. On a cold night , pushing it a little, below 5k revs, my knock was 111 :S

Where is your Hi / low throttle position set?

What was the max -XX% set and and at what rev?

Sorry to be a pain but i am interested in this.

the settings you posted are a long long long long way off. The settings r33 mad posted look like a good default setup.

I currently run these settings from memory:

2000 -5

3000 -5

4000 0

4500 -2

5000 -9

5500 -13

6000 -11

6500 -14

I also have an SITC which is dialed in to give an extra 5 clicks of timing at 4000 rpm to help clear out the R&R. however it is still noticeable on cooler evenings.

Yeh i know they were thats why i was so confused about the whole thing. Anyway that was a while ago, turns out the the 02 sensor and the fuel pump were both pretty screwed when the first 'tuner' so he called himself, tried to tune it, which is why it was so all over the place and had positive correction. I took it elsewhere to get checked out and got a new pump and sensor, with a re-tune of the safc and it all runs good now. simular correction to above.

    • Was the failed sensor by any chance this one? Did it just fail or start pissing on itself? I ordered one too, for fuel pressure monitoring, and now I am hesitant to put it in, hehe. Where did you find a brand one?
    • You'd be insane, when a brand new 8HP is ~$4k, and all the work to put a 6 in would cost the same as an 8 and the 8 is a completely established swap. If you think that getting a cheap Falcon box is going to make it a cost effective exercise, then you're not accounting for the extra $10-15k that the task will consume.
    • any further information on this? also interested in putting a zf6 in behind a rb30!
    • They're all horrible. X-Trails have had a nasty sounding 4cyl since forever, no matter what engine family it came from. The CVTs only made that worse. Then the whole Renault thing only made every Nissan that was contaminated by them even worse again. The only fun I've had in a X-Trail was having it blown sideways across a frozen Minnesota highway at 90 mph trying to make it to the airport to get out of the frozen hellhole of Hoth. Nearly died. Was great fun.
    • Alrighty, I'll have to grab a couple pics and type out something soon in another post. I haven't driven a modern X no, this would be the first one really. Yeah the rental boxes are always cheap as chips right? So I'd doubt that anyone was handing out GTs to go and abuse. But I s'pose I could be wrong for sure. New cars these days though? Pretty unimpressed with what I see now; 20 years and all that, like you said. It just kind of worked out to have these two cars now. I'm pretty pleased with that, don't need much else. I'm sure you lads are right about the temps and for sure, you wouldn't have much time to drive 'em down there if you all were like me. I do hate sweating all over the seats though😆
