I got a r32 very cheap (2000) because it was not complied & needed a turbo to get it complied. I have a friend who gave me everything to convert mine to turbo & its now complied (he went rb25/30 & had it all sitting there) but I'm wondering how hard it will be to make good power (about 200rwkw).I will be doing all the usual mods but was wondering if anybody else here has done it & how much boost can they run etc.

I did the same thing to an old na VL about 6 years ago. it made 175 hp with 7.5psi. made it with a stock na ecu, auto and injectors. It was no power house, but the higher than turbo compression ratio made it snap onto boost at about 2100rpm. it had a very flat power curve and very strong torque. the only thing i had to do was reset the timing to 10.5 degress (because of the na ecu). it made 207 hp on 9psi with water methonal injection. No intercooler.

Wot i'm saying is this, anything with a sound mechanical base usually works fine. Stressing an na engine a fair way may require some careful thought and planning.

I would check rod and piston strength, injectors wont make the 200kw so they will be goin anyway, ecu has to go get tuned or swapped. cams? valve springs could pose an issue.. the list goes on..

Any other thoughts.. :)

Dont hear of the RB20 being NA--> turbo that often.

In a sense it wouldnt be too bad as the RB20 does have a fair hole.

If you limit it to 200rwkw the compression shouldnt becoming a major issue.

Tuning will be the key, as it is for any setup :)

Already checked out the rb20 upgrade thread quite a few times & have 440cc injectors on order, fmic, the car already has an exhaust, have a bosch 070 fuel pump & will run a surge tank, will get a bigger turbo in the next month or so,will just get the stock turbo computer & get it tuned (mine is still running the na computer),will get a split dump soon etc.Just wondering if the higher compression will affect how much boost I can run, will I have to keep it low or decompress it to wind some decent boost in?.

    • I mean, the 240i is not a Supra... make it drop a few hundred kg, have a sportscar chassis, clearance for wheels etc... Maybe I want a hardtop Z40i XDrive or something :p I do agree with you though and have long said the B58 Supra/240i/340i/440i is the new R Chassis/JDM90's turbo rocket for mod lovers to ... not always appreciative response lol. Doesn't make it not true though.
    • I will do the build myself but I will be paying for the tune because I don't know how much about that and would rather it be done right and by a professional
    • Will you build and tune it yourself or do you need to pay for labour?
    • Mechanically that's essentially what the M240i is, it's just not pretending it's not a BMW
