Bunta
Just wondering if there are anyone here that is living close to the sunnybank area and are into fish... Got a few question on how to setup me fish tank properly.. Abit of a newb with this so please be kind to me.. Are there any local queensland forums that are dedicated to fish stuff by chance? My brother is big time into fish...he has 3 7foot tanks set up in his house! And his garage is full of breeding tanks...in fact his house is 'modded' to accommodate fish! ha ha..they had to get the garage aircondidtioned for the breeding and a new floor and support put in his living room to take the weight of the tanks ha ha! I will ask him on Monday if there is any forums that can help you out..also I am sure he could sell you some fish cheap if you are into native species...that is all he has I think Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/160803-anyone-into-aquarium-here/#findComment-2986552 Share on other sites

AzzurrA
check this site out: http://www.qldcichlid.com/ and http://qldcichlid.com/forum/index.php?action=forum pretty good, covers a lot of different species, from natives, to tankbusters, to cichlids etc. i had a 4 foot tank with a barramundi for a bit over a year... i bought him as a fingerling (about 2 to 3cm) and when he passed away he was about 40+cm.... in fact, i've got to get around to setting the tank up again... i might go with some silver perch or maybe a mangrove jack this time... AzzurrA
possible causes from that picture: you forgot to add dechlorinater to your tapwater before you added it to your tank or, you added too many chemicals (overmedicated) the tank or, you don't have sufficient filtration/aeration of your water Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/160803-anyone-into-aquarium-here/#findComment-2987092 Share on other sites

Demoniak
we had a huge 25cm oscar we still got 25cm + oscars.. umm back to the OP.. if you want any advice on fish tanks etc.. i 1000% reccommend a fish shop on the southside.. I dont even know the name of it but its opposite the rocklea markets.. They have the most compettitive prices and can give you great advice on new setups etc.. apart from that yeah... forums are good too.. Try not to buy second hand.. as if you want ciclids or any freshwater and the tank has been saltwater.. you could kill the bacteria that keeps fresh fishy alive Ill get some pics posted up of our Albino Oscar called Vito.. that mongrels HUGE (10.5") Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/160803-anyone-into-aquarium-here/#findComment-2992811 Share on other sites
Demoniak
Can anyone tell me what wrong with my fish??? The green is a definite give away.. either wayy to much algi in the tank ( needs filtration + charcoal) or way too much Toxic waste spill to water ratio.. Toxic Crusader reccomends a 2:1 ratio for such tests..no super fish for u! Along for the ride
There is an AWESOME vet on the southside who runs a clinic call Brisbane Bird and Exotics Veterinary Service. She only sees birds and exotics, no cats or dogs. So if your fishies gets sickies, or you just want good advice, give her a call...... 3420 6773! Yotis
Got another question.... how do you use the corals pieces, I got a small container of it, supposely it can be used as a sorta like supplement for the fishes? Do I drop some small pieces into the tank? or do they need to be washed first ? dano4127
the Via Aqua 750 under the tank should do the trick, the internal filter is just to create some flow. On the coral it is a bit of an unknown thing as I have been told many different thing from many different people which always seems to be the case, the chemist that lives next door reckons it will probably raise the ph a little making it more alkaline which is ok as the Africans handle it no worries. Thee natural habitat in the rift lakes is quite salty and alkaline but they are a hardy type of fish to keep, I have never lost any to sickness just bad tempers! For those not familiar with African they do require a small amount of Rift Lake salt to be added with the water change. stand is all made out of 25mm HD MDF and requires a small army to move, my dad made it for me to match my other furniture Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/160803-anyone-into-aquarium-here/#findComment-3014506 Share on other sites
