also the figures different dynos give can be different.

your guys dyno could be reading high thats why alot of the guys who came to the vic sdu dyno day said thier cars were making 180-190 rwkw on this dyno then they come to our dyno day and only make 140-150.

if the sydney guys have a dyno day then you can compare.

also the air /fuel ratios are important.

ask yourmechanic if he has a reading.

any dyno operator can have your reading 500kw@wheels if they wanted to! i think when u got your car dynoed the first time they bull****ted u man!!

especially with stock comp and rich a/f ratios its impossible!

A guy with a r33 brought his dyno chart to the last melbourne dyno day, after he got his unichip done saying 194kw@wheels. but when he got it dynoed at the day he got 155kw@wheels!

:uh-huh:

Yes my so called Unichip tune wasn't actually that in tune was it, however he will be fixing it this Sat, and if he can't for some reason then I'll get my money back. So I might be back to check up on his work.

what did the guy have to say when u showed him the graph from the SAU dyno day? did u ask him where your extra 40rwkw's had gone?

As I don't live in Melb I haven't shown him yet, he assured me that there's no way he would have left the A/F ratio at 10:1, so believe me come Sat I'll be sticking around watching his every move making sure he gets it right this time.

y dont u get a s-afc or power fc instead of the unichip?

S-AFC - Only intercepts & allows fuel map changes, it doesn't do timing as per the PFC or UC.

Power FC - Costly even @ $1200 for the Power FC add ~$400 for tuning, compare this to a Unichip $1100 fitted & tuned (this is what I paid). Without a doubt the PFC is the better option as reflected by the higher price.

Unichip - IF, & it's a big IF! The UC is correctly installed & tuned then it WILL provide repeatable rwkw gains. My Unichip was able to provide tuning for over 215rwkw (this kind of figure was repeatable on more than one dyno) I also managed the 1/4 time in my sig' with the UC running the show. The power curve & A/FR's were both very smooth & consistent.

BUT...... It took a good tuner who was familiar with both the UC & the RB25DET to get the results! The original installer did a very poor effort @ tuning it. Even the best ECU isn't much good if it's poorly tuned.

Once you start aiming for over 220rwkw the UC "may" have trouble overcoming the stock ECU's AFM over voltage timing retard. This is the exact reason I decided to get the LT12 Microtech, however it "may" be possible to make 220+rwkw with the UC & get a decent power curve, I just wasn’t interested in stuffing around trying to find out!

I think people shouldn't take their dyno reading to personally. A dyno is to tune the car. I've seen some cars sive different reading on the same dyno's.

My one had about 160kw at the rear at Hills and 180kw on 4 wheels on croydon's dyno.

Yes as Whatisname said it all comes down to cost, I paid $500 for the Unichip and $300 for the so called tune! Now with the SAFC I'd still have to add an ITC to get the same tuning features as the Unichip, which would throw it way over the $800 mark. Now that I've got the Unichip I'll try and get it right, if I can't then sure I'd consider an SAFC, time will tell.

    • Okay. Final round of testing done. Got a friend to hook up a fancy scanner to the car and we also ran some compression and leakdown tests, she is healthy.  The MAF was definitely the culprit. So for future reference anyone with similar issues that find this thread. I suggest the following steps, in order of affordability:   Check your spark plugs for any fouling, replace plugs if they are bad or re adjust the gaps making it narrower (0.8mm would be good). Check every coil's resistance with a multimeter. It can be done by probing the IB and G pins on the coil pack. Resistance should be around 1.4 (+/- 0.1) Ohms Check the MAF. If you have Nissan connect or a good scanner with the 14 adapter it should allow you to see the voltage on the MAF reading should be around 1.1 - 1.2V when car is idling. But if you don't, buy a new MAF from Amazon and test, then return it. (For instance, I got a Chinese one for $40 that was reporting 1.3v on idle). If you still have scanner, you can run tests on the injectors to see if they are working, just remember to unplug the fuel pump fuse/relay and have no pressure on the line. Then listen for the noises that the injectors make. Clean/replace injectors as needed. Once you find the issue and fix, order thousands of dollars worth of OEM parts to refresh unrelated things (Optional)   PS: Thanks to the absolute legends of this forum for the responses and help to someone that went a bit over their head. • Ha ha ha, so they stopped the bearings spinning on the one you want, but then decided the crank hub should slip instead 😛   Stick to RB, at least you can work on it yourself. And now it doesn't smell of vapour   Also I still believe there's a chance your new flap doesn't "pop", as even though the engine might breath hard, it has a direct path with no restriction to the inlet, which when on boost should pull a bit of suction for you. If you do get pressure in the catch can id be very intrigued. Time to put a boost gauge on it, and a session at the track, then solid cover your vent and do another session
    • Oh nah, S55 doesn't eat bearings, just the crank hub slips lol.
    • When’s the tow ball on the 33 coming? 🙃
    • I welcome any basic question that can help haha. Yes it has 2 unis but the driveshaft is a one piece and the unis are welded without a slip yoke at each end.   What's funny is anytime I've ever had wheel vibrations it's always been in the front so I automatically assume it will lead to steering wheel shake and not chassis vibration. With that being said, I never considered looking at my rear wheel balance... I have doubts though as this wasn't an issue before I pulled the motor and trans but is still very much worth a look. I'll do that tonight after work. Thanks.
