i had a bit of a pinging problem earlier and decided to run a colder spark plug to bring cylinder temps down.

im currently running 7's gapped at 0.85mm however even after 2-3 days they become fouled. almost impossible to start in the mornings and run like crap for about 5-10minutes.

would this indicate that in fact my car is not suited to running 7's and i should go back to 6's? or is there some adjustment i can make to the spark plug gap? i have a feeling my car just doesnt like the colder heat range plug...

any thoughts?

cheers

adam

Probably too cold.

I ran my GTS on 8s for a while. When I decided to go back to 6s, I had the engine idling for very short periods (less than a minute), and when I pulled the plugs, they were black with carbon.

You could try opening the gap a bit to ensure a stronger spark.

yeh ive opened them up to 0.9mm...

but they still foul really easily and make driving the car when its cold an absolute nightmare.

is there any advantage in running 7s as opposed to 6s? ie by runnings 7s does it actually make any sort of performance difference?

yeh but it thought itd be worth a try

im gunah put 6s back in tonight i think (unless anyone can suggest otherwise) cos driving the car atm is rediculous

im running injector cleaner through this tank of fuel and see what that does. theres a fair bit of work involved with getting the injectors out so im not gunah rush into the flow-testing idea

adam,

If you don't have enough timing advance and don't run highish boost or revs then colder plugs will foul.

7's aren't all that cold, and with RB's the factory ecu like to run 14 AFR's at idle and low throttle so they should stay sort of clean.

My 7's are only a little fouled at the moment thanks to me driving around with a blown ic hose, other than that they are fine.

Im thinking of running 7's aswell, considering i've powered up my SR20DET by ~60% over stock. Surely I should go one colder? Cos i read everywhere that ever 75-100hp increase u go 1 range colder. I might just go buy 1 colder copper plug (Heat/R 7) see how it goes. So if it fouls up, at least the car will hopefully still be fine.. Maybe thats an idea for everyone! =)

    • I thought I'd come back and add something I JUST learned. A Toyota LandCruiser with a 1HZ, mates perfectly with a bottle of Nulon brake fluid. As in, it perfectly screws in. Great make shift funnel when you cut the bottom of it off. This may work for your Corolla.   Unfortunately, tipping a 10L drum is much harder than a 4 to 6L bottle, and they no longer include the easy pour tap which was just perfection to use previously.
    • Guys since i bought r33 gts25t coupe 1994 automatic a/t(manual swap 350z gearbox)  all i got is problems, always problems. Lets start with that when i turn key into ignition(ON) fuel pump doesnt always works. Sometimes i have to turn key twice Off/on/off/on until it primes. Its new, dw300 - 340lph. My gearbox broke so i did gearbox swap, install different intake manifold, injectors and i take pipes. Car was sitting in garage for more than half a year. I did assembly all not that long ago and when i turn ignition cant hear prime. All of sudden it stopped working. Theres many videos on YouTube how to make relay mod on r33 straight from battery so i did and it doesnt work! 😰 30 - battery positive  87 - positive from fuel pump to relay 85, 86 - one of two wires from original fuel pump wires(light blue, grey) and it didn’t work. so I check on ignition and took original BLUE relays wires from trunk, next to fuses. (I believe it’s IGN+ and ECU pin 18. it didn’t work…  tried connecting (IGN+ from og relay) and (ECU 104 from 1of4 FPCM wires) to my new relay 85/86 and it didn’t work.  I unplug FPCM. Didn’t work. im thinking what’s wrong   fuel pump is working, if I leave IGN+ on 85 and 86 straight to ground it works but it’s just nonstop. Since it getting constant 12v after key in ON. light blue wire gives me 6-8v.  so how this should be connected? What causing ECU not giving — on pin? Or I did sth wrong and that’s why it doesn’t work? I need negative signal on ECU that control fuel pump. What this should be?
