Hi all,

I've just been looking at the Wakefield Park website, and their holding the NSW Drifting Championships there on the 3rd of June. Is anyone going along?

And on a different note, I need to get my ceff engineered in NSW, and I've been recommended to John Wilson of AKZ engineering here in Queanbeyan. Anyone had any dealings with the guy? The one person I know who's dealt with him said he was pretty god, pretty thorough.

Cheers,

Mick

Backed by Toyo, with $1500 for 1st prize. They also have a encouragement award from HSD/Otomoto of $500.

I might enter, if not I might be pit crew for someone else.

I heard John Wilson is not very consistent, but I've never personally dealt with him.

Wilson is tops he engineered my 1600 and gave me heaps of advice on things.. Dickson dont like him tho not sure why but prob cause he engineers heaps of cars and doesnt charge thousands of dollars like the "other two".

John did all my engineering when I brought in a handful of 15 year old R32 GTR's. I can't comment on one off experiences however I found him knowledgable and well priced.

I would have to agree with TeeJay1600 about the Dickson inspectors not holding him in the highest regard. Perhaps because he is in a position where he can and has challenged their interpretation and enforcement of the ADR's.

Never say no to an offer of help >_< Hopefully nothing will go wrong but come and say hi at the very least.

not a prob well i'm on holidays the week leading up to this so yeah plenty of spare time on mine hands so if you can use an extra pair of hands for anything let me know it'd be good to see what sort of work goes into getting the car ready for a drift round i'm hoping to have a good go at it as soon as my car is back (when ever that will be) but with coilovers, button clutch. mech lsd and 260rwkw, i think i should have a car quite suited to it

Sounds like it'll be a beast. It'll be awesome when that gets to the track.

Honestly there's not much to do between now and the day. Now that my week permit is over I'll wind the preload on the front coils back down, probably should do a service. I got my tyres from Jax yesterday (hope 6 rears last me the day).

Might see if I can find out why it wasn't boosting past 0.9bar on the dyno the other day. That's about it. It's a bit of a budget car so there's not all that much to it.

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
