mount it under the car, a rectangular box can be used and fitted next to fuel tank on drivers side (R32)

Sealed batteries are legal in the boot.

Well Vic at least, and we have some of the worst laws.

Remember a R33 comes factory in the boot

Im still hoping i can get my surgie in-boot passed.

let me know how u get on with the surge tank, id love to hear from someone who has had it approved.

I wouldnt mind getting alot of my mods mod plated, but then when u get more they want to stick more plates on, so by the end of it you end up with and engine bay full of nasty blue plates. I think ill take my chances untill i have my day (every dog has its day ) and then get it all plated on one.

Ye they are vented, but thats because the batteries arent sealed.

A sealed one doesnt need venting

We just get a piece of paper here in Vic

But yeah, i doubt i'll get the surge passed, and i can understand the reasons.

However i'll see how an engineer can guide me

What are the main reasons u are thinking, mainly just having fuel lines inside the car??

Ye fuel lines and the cell both in the boot as potential leaks. Although if sealed, its no different to a fuel tank as far as i can see it if the boot is sectioned off from the rest of the car aswell. (as my car has fold-down rear seats)

So basically accident

fuel gets loose in cabin

I either catch fire and die, or i die in the explosion, either way the outlook is grim

Mmm i guess, tho i think it would take a pretty severe accident to cause the fuel lines to come off the surge tank or whatever.

Also there is alot of cars running surge tanks in the boot, how are they doing it that is minimising this risk you speak of?

I have a custom surge tank that has all of its fittings at the bottom which avoids having any fuel lines in the boot, all you see is a boot mounted surge tank and that's it - it's been mod plated and is legal (in Qld). Speak to Richard at A.R.E. or Robin at Perfourmance Motorsports, they both do them (go to Richard if you want an aluminium one). Running lines in your boot = bad fuel smell in cabin.

But i heard some poor guy got done by a dumb copper for his in the boot, in his R33 (they come in the boot stock). qld road laws are stupid.

Food for thought Nismoid , R31's have a kind of lift out fuel pump/swirl pot affair don't they ? Would it be possible to have a fabricated pot made and have its supply (lift) pump in the tank but on the outside of the pot ? All in the tank and self contained if you know what I mean .

As long as you have a mod plate from an engineer it is legal to have a swirl pot mounted in the boot however most engineers won;t approve a mod plate if you have fuel lines running in the boot (hence my custom surge tank). Battery is legal as well so long as it is securely mounted and vents externally (not inside the boot) - you do not need a mod plate for a battery mounted in your boot.

You might be able to have something done in-tank.

Would be a bit of a mission though i reckon.
