Hey all, i have a mate who falls under the p-plate resictions and loves the stagea. are there any known n/as in aus? can they be imported?

Cheers all,

WTF33R

If he can afford an M35 they are available N/A however the C34 series N/A models dont meet the power to weight ratio to qualify for import under SEVS

2.5ltrs of n/a power pulling 1700 odd kg's. He'd be better off getting a push bike, or just walking. It'd be quicker :) I still think they should have looked at a VG30 out of the Z32 or even better a VH45 from the cima or something like that. Ummmmmmmm blown V8 stagea

P.S If he saves from now till he gets off his P's he could get a nice 260RS Stagea. It'd be worth the wait imo.

The poor sod in question here, is me.

Indeed, I have fallen in love with Stageas (they're beautiful.. in an ugly sort of way). Presently am on my Ls, but am 2 months off getting my Ps. Once I get my Ps, am going to buy the Stagea, and con the RTA in giving me a turbo exemption. If that fails, of course, I'll rip out the turbo, bung in an aftermarket ECU, and live with that until I can get some turbo happening. Yes, I am aware it will move slower than a turd, but it's an auto, and a wagon anyway - it's not like I'm buying it for performance.

Waiting until I'm off my Ps is not an option.

Some of you may be wondering about the username too.. well, I currently have a Corolla, and anyone who knows me from any of the Toyota sites will tell me I'm going to "the darkside" (Shh! Don't tell them!). Nuts to them. RB25 powah!!

But the RTA does say something along the lines of "Although your vehicle may not be listed here, it may still be restricted" iirc.

EDIT:

Just checked for myself..

"NISSAN STAGEA RS4 4D WAGON 6 2498 cc TURBO MPFI 4A 1996 TURBO 6"

It's on the list

ah, well there you go. They must have added it recently, because it wasn't on the list when they first brought out the law.

why not get a 1997 stagea then, it's not on the list :/

Sadly, you're a bit far away. That's my kinda budget though

Anyway, Im looking to import.

Wouldn't "importing" ska's car be a whole lot easier than dealing with shipping, compliance and the wait? Its a known quantity and seems to be well set up.

I guess so, but I'm fussy :P I guess it's just personal preference wether to import or to buy locally.

    • Didnt realise RB's had more then 1 head.
    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
