Hey guys.

I am looking to buy a new set of wheels for my GTR33.

I HAD decided to go with a pair of 18X10 +18 running 275 rubber.

It was my understanding that was the widest tire and rim combination possible to run on the GTR33 without modification.

However after speaking to someone else, they said on a GTR32 they are running 18X11 wheels with 305 rubber on them and had to only modify a few bits.

So that got me to thinking. Initially I didint want to have to modify anything, but hell if I can run a wheel and tire that wide and not have to cut the wheel well or anything, I would happily modify a bit!

So what is the widest possible wheel and tire combination and at what offest that you can run on a GTR33 with minimal modification to the car?

I do mean minmal, meaning I dont want to have to go take my car to a body shop or anything like that. But I have no problem trimming bits here and there and things of the sort.

Also this is going to be on the street, so I need to be able to turn the wheel and make U-Turns and such. However at my power level, I want the most possible rubber on the ground!

Thanks for the help!

btw, I looked at the sticky at the top of this section, however as there were VERY few GTR33s and even less running crazy wide tires, the help it provided was minimal.

18x10.5 with 275x35 or 285x35 will be fine depending on offset but the fronts will rub the inner guards on full lock , not a big problem.

Wow! Are you sure that 285s will fit? If so thats what im going to run!

Of course I mean fit and just rub the inner guard a bit ONLY on full lock.

I've had 275x35x18 on 10" rims with 17offset on stock V-spec suspenssion , rears fine, fronts hit on full lock the inner plastic liner. You only travel very slow on full lock so it should be fine .

Don't forget that not all tyres of the same size are the same with, they can vary, you can get say 275's are are only 271mm and others that will be 279mm. If I was you I would go 18x10 with 275x35x18 and 13-20 offset. 13 will be flush with the guards, depending on tyres maybe even stick out a mm or 2 , 20 will be just inside .

Something I learnt recently is that R34 GTR have a bit wider guards at the rear. They can take a bit more offset and wider rim. i.e LMGT4 18x10.5 +15 are ment for R34 GTR not R33... but they do fit an R33 fine with 265's on...

As wrxhoon said, some tyres are wider than others at the same size.... The biggest problem you'll have if you go wide, is you will need to roll your rear guards, not a huge issue, but that's up to you if you want that done or not... If you do you can fit a bit wider rim/tyre... I guss this also depends on how high your car is, if its high then you won't rub at all even if the tyre sticks out :P

Somewhere around 18x10 +20 and 18x10.5 +15..... but the tricky part is, the 10" +20 wheel would be able to fit a wider tyre on it without hitting the rear guards, but you don't want to go to wide since the tyre becomes baggy and that will affect handling...

    • Thanks, will do that.  Thankfully they still feel great.
    • Yeah man, absolutely. You can try pushing me all the way in swapping the R34 for an E9x M3
    • It's almost certainly going to be some amount of pads compound transfer onto the rotors. It will probably go away after you've run them for a bit. If not, pull it all out, lightly sand the rotors, scuff the pads, and rebed.
    • no one recommending speedtek gearsets?   i'm in the same boat as Cosline but rwd, I am holding boost back in third to 600nm at the hubs to save the gear as i make nearly 750nm at the hubs on a mainline
