Vct Problem

well i think i have a camshaft/vct problem the car is sluggish when i rev, thier is also a soft clunking sound coming out of the vct solenoid area nota click more like a clunk when i hold about 3k rpm it doenst make the sound but when i let go of the throttle it starts clunking its way down to idle, and when i unplug the vct solenoid it remains sluggish and i dont notice a change at all in the engines performance. any 1 have an idea of what it is and what i have to do to fix it

pull the rocker covers off and have a look. Could be something loose, perhaps a bridge cap bolt. Could be a worn camshaft lobe...regardless you need to have a look.
