OK So my fuel pump died yesterday, and it is covered under the warranty.

Now atm it has a Nismo High Capacity R33 GTR in it, flows at 276L/hour

So because it is the only car my family has we need it back on the road asap.

I would prefer it be replaced with a Nismo, but yet cant find anyone in Australia who has stock that they can courier overnight.

So I am considering the following, which all are available via overnight courier:

SARD High Capacity Fuel Pump 280L/Hour

Bosch 040 235L/Hour

Bosch 044 330L/Hour

So can anyone point me in the direction of anyone in AU that might have the Nismo?

If not then which out of the SARD or the 2 bosches should I buy?

Points to consider:

1. This will be fitted by Rockhampton local mech, who has probably never done this before.

2. It'll need to be intank

3. I need the car back on the road ASAP, riding to work in the rain is not fun

I was going to go 040, but after reading a lot of threads about the 040 I am leaning towards the 044, which can be mounted in the tank, am I right?

Thanks for your advice.

If you are going to post up that I should not use any of the pumps suggested, please backup with facts and evedence, dont just post up stuff like, "Dont use the 040, they blow up!"

Ive got the 040 intank as low as possible with direct battery wire feed.

does the job.

got it off ebay for around $215 delivered a year ago and had it within 2 days.

if you are selling the car in the future, go the 040. if you are keeping the car and adding injectors down the track at some stage, go the 044.

yeah I would tend to go for the most direct fit possible.

bear in mind some of the Bosch Pumps can be quite noisy!

do you know what orientation the sock/filter is on the stock pump? because you really want to

get a replacement that sits in the cradle properly and also the sock/filter sits low in the tank

( or you might get surging round the corners )

If you DO have to " rig something up " make sure the sock is at the rear most part of the little basket/basin the sock sits in.

NOTE: I am ASSUMING that the sock is surrounded by a little plastic basin thing that the return line feeds back into .

Well the car will hopefully be looked at today.

Noise is not a problem, the Nismo one was REALLY loud, buzzzzzzzzz as soon as I turned the ignition on, so used to it. That is how I am 95% sure it's dead, turn the ignition and total silence......

The stock cradle would be already modified to suit the Nismo pump, and dont know how much the cradle would have to be modified to suit any new pump to be installed, but that isnt really my problem. Price isnt reall an issue either, as the warranty covers up to $1,000 for replacement of the pump itself. Which is why I would prefer to replace with the Nismo, but cant find anyone in AU who can sell me one and send overnight via courier to rural QLD.

The major problem I have is that I have a wife and 2 young children walking to school in the pouring rain, yes they have unbrella's and raincoats, but eventually they will get colds and pass it onto me and then everyone will be sick and cranky. Oh that and I have to ride to work in the rain, but meh I just take stupidly long hot showers when I get here :rofl:

So really I need the car back ASAP. I have advised the workshop to try to source the SARD as a replacement, mainly because Dan, (3lit3 32), said so, he is the man and trust him explicitly. That and the SARD can be sourced by the workshop overnight.

So once the report and quote is done for the warranty, I'll be waiting for them to approve and then it'll take at least 2 days more to get back on the road.

I really appreciate everyones suggestions and help!

Nah, but good suggestion. I checked all the fuses, and even swapped the seemingly good fuse for a known working one. The workshop tested for power and it seems there is power getting to the fuse, but none at the pump. But the pump was definatly dead.

Anyone know where the relay would be for a Stagea fuel pump?

Nope, I did some very quick research, and could find any bad reports about the 044 and only a couple of bad about the 040, and even then they were probably mounted to high.

I went and saw the beast on the weekend, she is pouting and ignoring me cause I have borrowed a 99 barina auto to run around in....... Anyway, the 044 is mounted in the cradle as low as physically possible.

Just waiting for the CRD motorsport guys to get back to my workshop with a couple of fittings.

I'm praying that the stupid thing just works, I hate driving the barina, it sucks hairy dog balls, I want my Stag back :whistling:

Oh and BIG THANK YOU to CRD motorsports, for basically holding the hand of the mechs up here, these guys are used to working on normal cars, not real cars, and I think have called up CRD lots, and everytime I am told that CRD is mor than happy to help them out and give them advise, I really appreciate it!

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.  
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
