hey all,

when i start my car well.. before i start it, i always turn the ignition to 'acessories' and let the fuel go through before i tick it over..

now i think its just becuase its cold in the morning, but it makes a moan/ groan of a noise when i hear the fuel going through..

just curious if its normal, or is it a sign i need a new pump.

its the factory 33 pump.

thanks

jake

Was the noise from the tank or the engine? It should make a buzzing noise, but not a moan as such. Low power may turn the buzz into a moan?....

First thing to do would be open the fuel tank one morning, then get someone to turn the car to ACC while you watch what happens and listen for the noise. Trouble is you only get 1 shot at this per day. Maybe its a hose leak.

nah i get the buzz noise as per usual, normal. im talking cold night or morning. like 5 degrees this morning.

kind of sounds like fuel going throgh the lines is struggling maybe beacuse the lines are really cold?

but more so the noise is from the front. It stops after the fuels makes it to the injectors or wherever it ends up like normal.

guessing an upgraded pump will bring the fuel to engine on start up quicker? not a skyline issue either cause ive had it with my old commodore

nothing wrong with the car or anything else, no noticeable signs, just an anoyoing noise for a few secs (ONLY WHEN REALLY COLD)

yeah when i click to accesories in the morning.

I hear a high pitch noise and then get a low moan/grumble near the front passenger footwell only for like a second.

I park my car on a steep hill overnight so maybe its causing more work?

Would it be fuel pump?

My car is running a bit lean which could be due to old fuel pump

Hey guys,

My fuel pump used to make the groan every now and then.

My car was running consistently lean throughout the rev range so i replaced it with a gtr pump last weekend.

Now it just makes the nice quiet buzzing noise. Havent dynoed it again yet so we'll have to wait and see whether it fixed the fueling problem.

I think the groaning probably means your pump is on its way out (maybe its the bearings or seals wearing away)?

yeah thats how i first noticed mine after work. now as its getting colder seems to be happaning more.

ive just got stage 1 mods, price and practicallity everyone recommend a bosch 040???? also i would want an EASY DIY install.

dont want to spend an arm and a leg, but defenityly want to upgrade.

thanks

    • Ha ha ha, that's fair mate! We have the crackhead dogs now. Mainly because the missus wants the crazy dogs while she still has the energy and capacity to be able to keep up with them! Ha ha our current two are both Working GSD, there brothers and sisters (from the same litters) are in Police, Corrective Services, and I believe one did end up in defence force too. They're wild and fun, yet right now, both curled up asleep on the lounge room floor while we watch some TV. Mal is very likely the next dog (unless I get my couch potato guardian dog 😛 )   What are your Kitties names? Are you planning some house work, like those high kitty shelves, built in scratching post, and some cat passages from one room to another room?
    • Maine Coone, did look at but to big and fluffy As for performance dogs, we had Mals at work, performance dogs are fun to watch, but, way to much work for this old rooster
    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
