What tha! BOV's are there to vent of boost after WOT to stop it heading back to the turbo causing it to slow and reducing throttle response and in the case of higher boost damage.

BOVs are there as an emission device and to reduce noise. emission device because they minimise air reversion which could be measured twice by the AFM if it is closeish to the turbo. but noise as well because most people who buy a sports car don't want it to go "CHHHH CHHH CHHHHH!!" every time it changes gears. that said, blocked BOV + pod filter = filthy compressor surge.. sounds great

the throttle response thing is bogus, all a BOV does is empty the air cavity between your turbo and throttle body. The turbo speed will drop away very quickly BOV or no BOV because there is no exhaust gas driving it on closed throttle. It takes more time to pressurise the intake system again than it does to spin up a turbo, so you will have better throttle response with a blocked BOV.

shit hey,i went for a drive into town on saturday afternoon, first time in about a year!after reading this topic i remeber why i stopped going in,the stupid thing is most of the cops have NO idea what there doing,To the people who got defected and honestly think they shouldn't of i'd recommend going to the rta at carrington and talk to them about the defect.i got defected after owning my car for about a week and the cop wanted me to get noise test's(induction and exhaust)also to get emissions test + defect for wheels to big??(18") after going to carrington rta they ripped up the defect notices and emissions test and only gave me a defect to put the standard air filter on,my point is talk to someone in the rta before you go to all the trouble of getting tests done.

I'm sick of this nonsense. Seriously.

car enthusiasts get treated like criminals.

pfft powersteering leak. How many old cars are there which have leaks all over the joint. My daily driver wagon used to have oil leaking from the cam covers x 2, crank seal, rear main, sump seal, powersteering pump...... I've fixed a couple fo those to keep my garage floor clean, but about half of the seals still leak - i bet the cops at a defect station wouldn't look at it twice and wave it through.

Entrapment isn't illegal in this country. That's how cops can go around geeing people up to drag race and then booking them when they launch it.

If I had the financial resources, I'd buy a VS Commodore and break it on purpose so it blew smoke, leaked all kinds of fluids, etc and grab a fully engineered import (with all the paperwork on board) to go cruising defect stations together.

When the Commodore gets waved by and the import gets defected for "contaminated brake fluid", take the coppers to court for discrimination.

I can't understand why people still insist on getting pod filters and bovs on road going cars.

there are people on this forum with over 250rwkw using stock intake and bov.

possibly higher..

you're just asking for trouble..

it's true they don't bother going over old bombs..

"GENERALISATION" shows that those are not the cars that hang out together and do "HOON" type activities..

it's just how it is..

Build a bridge..

damnnn

that sucs big timeee

looks like im not planning a cruise to newie on a weekend anytime soon...

we get picked on because cops love making money, its a business, there a gang them selves they just have authority to do it with out being called criminals.....

bwahahaa

sum real funny reasons for being defected

what shits me most is that u see a old bomb like a old datsun or L300 van with smoke pissing out the back, yet the cops dont pull him/her ova for a defect, theyd rather get a nicely done, perfect condition skyline with no problems at all.....

100% true... also very well organised... most acts they do are illegal... shooting anything, carrying a weapon, trespassing, violence, speeding etc etc...

but most of these are done to enforce the law for others... they always jump into a fight and break it up because they have to... its when you see acts going on that dont really benefit anyone but themselves that you start to question it... a defect notice and fine for loose floor mats? i have a feeling sometimes all they want is money... :(

personally, i love the police :D unless you have mates with guns and ammo that will speed through traffic to come rescue you whenever you need, you should love them too :P

hmm...

they probly screening this very forum. that is how they know and set up a defect station there waiting for you guys!

give me 1 good things that cops did?

and i can list atleast 10 bad things about them.

yeah its well known that cops read through forums to gather information, so if your setting cruises up, try to do it privately, unfortunately that doesnt help when its a cruise inviting people to come LOL.

some cops are really nice, past 2 encounters ive had actually had skylines before so they let me be, kinda just joked about it. but yeah unfortuantely theres some really sexually frustrated cops who are just out on a power trip ...

I very much doubt the cops would have organized a big operation on the basis that 10 Skylines were going to meet up in town. More to the point I doubt they would have other highway patrol officers taken out of other areas such as Sydney to come and worry about 10 Skylines.

It has been planned for weeks, there is clearly other 'troubles' in town that not even I am aware of for them to have a "Newcastle Lap" operation.

This was organized on a private forum; I don't recall anyone mentioning it on here.

I don't feel like the Police were out trying to be particularly horrible to anyone in particular they were just out doing their jobs which happened to be defecting. Clearly there is a heap of kids hanging in there week after week causing trouble, we just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.............shit happens, move on build a bridge.

a heap of kids hanging in there week after week

Yeah something needed to be done!!

I went to drive in there early at the start of this year and even then it was gridlocked back to the Crown & Anchor... Pathetic!!

I wasn't even going to the foreshore, just over to a friends place and I had to turn around and go back home.

So yes, I can see why they do these things... Especially since this sort of issue was affecting the daily driving of the general public to such an extent.

Yeh so ridiculous, in QLD, exposed pod, fmic as long as no reo bar is cut, its a joke how can three diff states have 3 diff rulings, up until last year you could have a atmo venting supersonic BOV on ur car an not get done for it in QLD, now its only noise they do ya for

Yeah its pretty ridiculous, i used to live in queensland and i changed my rego over on my car, the only thing they cared about was that the tommy kaira front bar was 2mm lower than the minimum height, now i'm back in nsw i need to change it over again and the height is the only thing that hasn't been mentioned!!! :D

yea its just like anything u get the good and u get the bad.. nearly got done last long weekend at 12:10 just got on the HB and they where sittin near the toll's. me and a CV8 where smashin it up the bendy road due to the tunnl being closed and they spot'd us and hung back. the cv8 smashed it to go to north syd turn off while i put my foot down and headed to manly turn off. i thought they followed him but infact they where a few cars behind me.. god dam D's and there unmarked cars... I was doin about 160+ but backed off due to rain and cars on the road and they caught up with me in cremorne and pulled me over with the ive been waiting all day for you mate as i justly replied i got here as fast as i could wich brought a smile to the po po's face. then he tried to get me to admit that i was speeding as they had nothin on me due to no speed cam or there just dumb. was a bit of a smart ass but the guy was asking for it. but at the end of it walked away with no fines no defeckts lucky but got to meet a good coper who had a brain and a sense of humor not some wanabe ex army c**t who thinks u are scumm.

I wasnt in town the night of the rediculous invasion of privacy but i was in there the satday night.I drove past the cops, there were bout 4-5 cars in a row.As i drove past they were all lookin at me like i was the scum of the earth n yet i was in a nicer car than the stupid morons that were glaring at me.They they split up blocked off pit lane n set up a rbt and did the same on the other side.

We did a lap cruised past them again n parked.I dunno what there go is but its either hey we got no real crims up here so we'll pick on the on revinue this state has.I think if any cop came up to me n asked to search my car i'd ask them what reason do they have to search.Tell them that its invasion of privacy n if they dont leave me alon i'd have them for harasment.

Seriously if cop try to intimidate you its f**kin harrasment.Obviously is against the law.I agree with a persons previous comment that if ur acting like a f**k wit in front of a coppa u deserve to be done.

I just wish cops would get off there high horse n come back to reality.PEOPLE HAVE NICE CARS GET USED TO IT,AND f**kIN LEAVE US ALONE!

It's only a select few that ruin the fun. Not all of them are that bad. Although the idea of getting unsafe cars off the street tends to end up being modified cars. It's fair enough but when you notice there are no rust buckets with no brakes etc at defect stations and only imports thats what grinds my gears.

I wasnt in town the night of the rediculous invasion of privacy

What invasion of privacy? I'll be honest and say that I haven't read every post in this thread, but the ones I have read have had people getting stopped in a public place and their vehicle inspected for illegal modifications. No-one was strip searched, nor did they exactly pore through the interior checking under all the carpets for dirty laundry.

I was.....

It appears you don't understand what happened..... the police blocked off both ends of the road and directed everyong through the carpark and checked thier cars - some were sent to Carrington RTA and others were issued defect notices for things like unenclosed pods, BOV, A pillar guages, exhaust etc..... I was waved through and told I didn't have to go into the carpark, so was my other half in his car behind me and a friend of ours behind him..... someone else I know who was with us had bald tyres, broken headlights and other stuff and was also let go with nothing - ALOT of cars were inspected but not all and ALOT of people were given verbal warnings - you make it sound like the police have a personal vendetta against you...?

It was a typical rta/police defect station set-up. They do it regularly..... the hotspot on the coast for these 'random defect stations' is Terrigal but every dick and his dog in any sort of car who goes for a cruise to the coast - GOES TO TERRIGAL!!!

Sounds to me like you are familiar with your local po po and maybe have a grudge.....

Just my 2 cents :)

I concur........ :)

    • Next on the to-do list was an oil and filter change. Nothing exciting to add here except the oil filter is in a really stupid place (facing the engine mount/subframe/steering rack). GReddy do a relocation kit which puts it towards the gearbox, I would have preferred towards the front but there's obviously a lot more stuff there. Something I'll have to look at for the next service perhaps. First time using Valvoline oil, although I can't see it being any different to most other brands Nice... The oil filter location... At least the subframe wont rust any time soon I picked up a genuine fuel filter, this is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank. Access can be found underneath the rear seat, you'll see this triangular cover Remove the 3x plastic 10mm nuts and lift the cover up, pushing the rubber grommet through The yellow fuel line clips push out in opposite directions, remove these completely. The two moulded fuel lines can now pull upwards to disconnect, along with the wire electrical plug. There's 8x 8mm bolts that secure the black retaining ring. The fuel pump assembly is now ready to lift out. Be mindful of the fuel hose on the side, the hose clamp on mine was catching the hose preventing it from lifting up The fuel pump/filter has an upper and lower section held on by 4 pressure clips. These did take a little bit of force, it sounded like the plastic tabs were going to break but they didn't (don't worry!) The lower section helps mount the fuel pump, there's a circular rubber gasket/grommet/seal thing on the bottom where the sock is. Undo the hose clip on the short fuel hose on the side to disconnect it from the 3 way distribution pipe to be able to lift the upper half away. Don't forget to unplug the fuel pump too! There's a few rubber O rings that will need transferring to the new filter housing, I show these in the video at the bottom of this write up. Reassembly is the reverse Here's a photo of the new filter installed, you'll be able to see where the tabs are more clearing against the yellow OEM plastic Once the assembly is re-installed, I turned the engine over a few times to help build up fuel pressure. I did panic when the car stopped turning over but I could hear the fuel pump making a noise. It eventually started and has been fine since. Found my 'lucky' coin underneath the rear seat too The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44&t=6s
    • It was picked up on the MOT/Inspection that the offside front wheel bearing had excessive play along with the ball joint. It made sense to do both sides so I sourced a pair of spare IS200 hubs to do the swap. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the strip down but here's a quick run down. On the back of the hub is a large circular dust cover, using a flat head screw driver and a mallet I prised it off. Underneath will reveal a 32mm hub nut (impact gun recommended). With the hub nut removed the ABS ring can be removed (I ended up using a magnetic pick up tool to help). Next up is to remove the stub axle, this was a little trickier due to limited tools. I tried a 3 leg puller but the gap between the hub and stub axle wasn't enough for the legs to get in and under. Next option was a lump hammer and someone pulling the stub axle at the same time. After a few heavy hits it released. The lower bearing race had seized itself onto the stub axle, which was fine because I was replacing them anyway. With the upper bearing race removed and the grease cleaned off they looked like this The left one looked pristine inside but gave us the most trouble. The right one had some surface rust but came apart in a single hit, figure that out?! I got a local garage to press the new wheel bearings in, reassemble was the opposite and didn't take long at all. Removing the hub itself was simple. Starting with removing the brake caliper, 2x 14mm bolts for the caliper slider and 2x 19mm? for the carrier > hub bolts. I used a cable tie to secure the caliper to the upper arm so it was out of the way, there's a 10mm bolt securing the ABS sensor on. With the brake disc removed from the hub next are the three castle nuts for the upper and lower ball joints and track rod end. Two of these had their own R clip and one split pin. A few hits with the hammer and they're released (I left the castle nuts on by a couple of turns), the track rod ends gave me the most grief and I may have nipped the boots (oops). Fitting is the reversal and is very quick and easy to do. The lower ball joints are held onto the hub by 2x 17mm bolts. The castle nut did increase in socket size to 22mm from memory (this may vary from supplier) The two front tyres weren't in great condition, so I had those replaced with some budget tyres for the time being. I'll be replacing the wheels and tyres in the future, this was to get me on the road without the worry of the police hassling me.
    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product, that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
